Illinoise is incredibly fucking overrated while we're at it.

But he recorded everything with a 57 and a C1000... I can definitely respect him for that, considering how nice the album sounds.

I'm convinced nobody actually LIKES In An Aeroplane Over the Sea. They just say they do to troll me and to fit in with a certain kind of crowd.

it fits a very specific mood for me.

there was a time in my life when i was depressed and it was something i listened to constantly.

i don't really listen to it anymore.. maybe cant.

Well that's a stupid thing to think.

Perhaps there are people who look for something in music that is different than what you look for in music.

Nah, it couldn't be.

ok im not one of those guys who thinks ITAOTS is like the GOAT or anything, but...

you're really being willfully ignorant here.

Radiohead is a god damn joke, fronted by an arrogant, aloof garden gnome. Also, their "third" guitar player is the lord of doucheness. He plays like three notes a song, but he rocks out like some guitar god. Also, I really don't like how they rip off Coldplay(Karma Police completely copied Clocks). These guys suck.

WHAT? American black metal is so, so much better than its Scandinavian counterpart at this point. Unless you're thinking of French bands. That scene is by far the most creative.

Great American black metal: Krieg, Liturgy (controversial, accused of being hipsters, blah blah, but anything but boring), Woe (their new one is a bit of a lemon, their first was amazing), Castevet, Wrnld (seriously, that is some interesting sound this guy is working with), Necrite, Natchtmystium (if you ignore the latest abortion)... I know the depressive stuff like Xasthur gets a lot of attention from the press in America, there's just so much more than that going on right now. Immortal, Gorgoroth and all of those bands are so boring these days, and too much of the new stuff is so narrow in interpreting what black metal is, it's not worth listening to.

Seems like I haven't done my homework. Will check most of this stuff out.

Phew. I know you're joking because Karma Police came out years before Clocks.

this takes the cake

i didnt think arctic monkeys being the best thing to come out of europe would be topped

The best NIN album is With Teeth.

I kind of think the terrible mastering/mixing on Death Magnetic actually kind of adds to the aesthetic and sound they were going for.

Kid A is probably Radiohead's worst album.

The best Beatles album isn't Sgt. Pepper's or Abbey Road... it's Revolver.

It may not be that controversial around here, but saying it in real life is pretty controversial: American Idol is a plague in the music world, and represents everything wrong with it right now. Having a popularity contest to find out which person singing someone else's songs gets a record contract is fucking deplorable, and as a whole human race we should feel bad about it all.

So you're one of those people that got to that part and stopped right?

And to alot of people in this topic, its cool. Everyone goes through a Beatles hating phase.

Now onto the opinions.

Bill Evans is the best jazz pianist ever.

Mariah Carey cannot sing to save her life.

There have been no good musicals in the past 35 years.

Motorhead is the only good metal band, ever.

Agreed. When Thom Yorke or Jonny Greenwood spew their horseshit about how Kid A was influenced by "Krautrock and Jazz", I wanna rip my hair out of my head.

I am open to this idea.

Also, Kid A has Humphrey Lyttelton on it, so it cannot be all bad.

Never said Kid A was all bad. It's a good album. It's just I personally think they tried way too hard to not be catchy or anything for no other reason than they were immaturely fighting being mainstream. I feel like they were censoring themselves. They do best when they do things that are both catchy and kind of weird... not really when it's just one or the other.

Animal Collective - My Girls really bothers me

"I don't mean to seem like I care about material things, like a social stance (status?)"
You don't mean to seem like you care about this - so you do actually care, but don't want others to perceive this?
Material things like a social stance - something which is not physical in nature at all. A social stance - something that actually affects how you view the world. If he means to say 'status', well that doesn't very much rhyme with 'slats' now does it.

"I just want four walls and adobe slats for my girls"
A home and 'adobe slats' - something which is physical in nature, or material.
'Adobe slats' in general. What the fuck? Do you mean to be perceived as a hipster?

No thats actually one of the better songs. I've listened to the entire thing, twice. I've tried liking it. I've given it multiple chances and it sucks every single time. And I'll go back to it a few months later thinking "maybe I'll like it now".

I don't.

Kid A is just a bunch of purposeless noise, "fridge buzz", as the Garden Gnome likes to say.

Nah, it couldn't be.

Yeah I thought that too. But then I remembered that my music taste is the best music taste.

I think he saying that, although money is important and the economy is a major influence in our lives, we should not spend too much time concerning ourselves with it. Who cares how rich/poor we are? As long as we have the necessities: A house for our girls, everything will work out in the end.

heres a controvertial opinion for ya: all music suck!

One thing is for sure:
Her boobs are a lot bigger than Greenwood's.
Boob size is directly proportional to how good of music one can make.

The Offspring aren't a bad band, in fact I'd even go as far as to say they're the best band the Punk Rock scene of the early 90's produced - from their sophomore release 'Ignition', followed by 'Smash', 'Ixnay on the Hombre' and 'Americana' they were incredibly consistent and constantly moving forward - pity Americana had to be such a huge international success, because they stalled afterwards, repeatedly attempting to recreate Americana-style albums, with Pretty Fly for a White Guy-style singles.

Also, Iron Maiden >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Metallica, and while I'm at it; Megadeth >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Metallica.

You do realize that jonny contributes far more to radiohead's music than just guitar, right? Oh, I forgot. They're classified as rock so all that matters is how much technical wankery the guitarists can showcase.

I'm curious as to what music you favor and why.

All Johnny Greenwood does is give rimjobs all night long to Johnny Buckland from Coldplay.

Does anybody really think the Sex Pistols made good music? I'm glad they existed because they inspired a bunch of great bands to start... but they were no good at all themselves.
