Music - Controversial Opinions

And yet, Ys, the best album ever made is merely four years old, this week in fact I believe.

I personally prefer Have One On Me, although I often think I'm alone in that judging from other Newsom fans' opinions I see on the internet.

my controversial opinions.

GAF is right a lot of the time when music is good and music sucks, however the following are exceptions to the rule:

Animal Collective's Merriweather Post Pavillion is a largely boring album, even downright fucking annoying at some parts. Also Frightened sticks out as a very very fucking annoying song (the "WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa" part in particular, god stfu). My Girls is a great song though.

Lady Gaga is terrible. So is Katy Perry. In fact, anything that can make it into the Top 40 in this day and age are shit songs because people by and large have the worst taste in music.

Metal is a shitty genre.

Kid Cudi fucking sucks.

Rap is a shitty genre.

The Beatles are overrated and Led Zepplin fucking sucks.

Pink Floyd is the best of the "classic bands."

Rolling Stones are fucking horrible.

Bob Dylan sucks.

Oasis sucks and is annoying.

"It sucks because I say so DAMMIT"

Seriously, care to elaborate? Hahaha.

given the love for gaga I have seen on this forum I rather not push my luck or I might end up dead somewhere in a ditch :D

Coldplay is a good band.
Incubus only had one good album: Light Grenades.
Bob Dylan makes good music but his lyrics are absolute rubbish and this in turn drags his songs on waaaay longer than they need to be simply for the sake of "poetry". There's no reason Desolation Row should be any longer than four minutes, let alone twice that (even Like A Rolling Stone starts to drag right at the end).

College Dropout is Kanye's worst album. The production on it is easily the worst of any of his albums, the skits add absolutely nothing, and half the tracks are filler. Late Registration is everything it should have been.

The Black Eyed Peas are a pimple on the ass of the music industry. Their last album was an atrocious abomination that I'd call musical diarrhea, except that would be a slap in the face of everything else that is considered "music." Will.i.am is a talentless hack whose only good work comes from some one else essentially doing it for him.

I think that's a pretty popular opinion in music. They're horrible. Danger manages to make them sound good, I don't know how he did it.

I like Creed and Alter Bridge. A lot.
Alter Bridge are fuckawesome. ABIII is one of the best albums I've heard this year.

Beatles are the most overrated band ever and music would be identical today without them.
Floyd improved as soon as Syd left
Division Bell and AMLOR are better than Saucerful of Secrets and Piper at the Gates of Dawn.
Led Zeppelin ARE as good as you've been led to believe.
Annette > Tarja
Offspring >>>>> Green Day > Blink
The Black Album actually is Metallica's best work.
Simple Plan's self titled 2008 album was pretty good.
Metal is superior. Bow the fuck down bitches!

Sometimes I hate you, but right now...:lol

This thread would be way more interesting if after we go down our shit lists we actually said what band we like more than any other, so as to risk something instead of just flinging shit.

Oasis had better albums than Blur during the years when everyone was comparing them, but Blur was way more consistent overall and should have been the ones to put out four albums in the last decade. This probably isn't that controversial to be honest.

A lot of indie bands could do a LOT better with a better vocalist. For a lot of them, the shit singers are the only things that hold me back from really loving them. Its not that any of them sound "weird", I like a lot of non-conventional sounding vocalists and some times they are the ones I love the most. Its just that a lot of times, they are just really fucking dull to listen to.

The 80s doesn't deserve the hate it gets. A lot of fucking great artists put out good shit in that decade, they just got drowned out by the crap. The 2000s would have been just as "bad" in that sense if it weren't for the internet allowing a lot of good music get exposure.

Lady Gaga isn't crap, but it annoys me when people say that she's the only good thing in pop music today. I think it actually is unfair to other pop artists who really aren't that far off from her musically at all.

No? :/

Was I supposed to interpret the thread as "insult the opinions of others with 5 words or less" instead of "post hyperbolic half thought-out opinions that people will disagree with"?

I can't stand Oasis, but I love Blur...I don't really understand any comparison. I were to compare them to anybody I'd compare Blur to Pulp.

i do too, but i still thought it was funny

a lot of my friends who are really into sports maybe have a passing interest in music and therefore have really lame taste lol

also the music you hear on ESPN .. my stars

Like a Rolling Stone really is the best song ever made. But only if it's the version from Before the Flood. If not, it's just alright.

Lady Gaga is the perfect example of a sell out and I'm continually shocked about her acceptance from the non top 40 set as if she's some sort of legitimate artist. Just because she's a good musician and wears crazy clothes doesn't excuse the fact that she writes and sings shallow, trite and meaningless pop songs that are no better than standard Britney Spears output.

I don't like how 'manufactured' has gone from being an insult in the 90s to something that is almost a compliment today.

Yeah, they aren't really that similar musically. I think they were grouped together because they both were getting really big at the same time.

I should really listen to more Pulp.

i don't understand how that makes her a sell out. she was wearing crazy clothes before she was famous

Liz Phair is a perfect example of a sell out

Music is better today than it ever has been. I listen to 10-15 new albums a week and probably 75 singles from various bands and still feel like I'm missing out on tons of exciting shit I want to listen to.

no, me too. it was supposed to be a dickhead post.. i've just met a lot of dudes that are into sports that may have similar opinions.
People who like sports listen to Nightwish and favour Gilmour late-era Pink Floyd?

I just discovered something else that I believe: Ani DiFranco is the best female songwriter to emerge in the past two decades.

If you don't listen to classical music you are an uncultured poopyhead.
This isn't a controversial opinion, is it?

blame space said:
it wasn't those parts, no.
Obviously. That only leaves Beatles, Metallica, Zeppelin and Offspring. Popular bands, sure, but do people that play sports really make the distinction between 80's Metallica and post Black Album Metallica? I wouldn't know because I don't play sports and the people I know who do play sports just listen to the same shit everyone else does over here:lol

I could have just listed my favourite movements in Symphony X's Divine Wings of Tragedy, but who's going to know what I'm going on about?
