Keira by Tony Sly
A lullaby for his young daughter (named after her too!) to listen to while he went away on tour or if he ever died. He died suddenly in his sleep just 2 years after writing/recording this at the young age of 41 :(. A heartbreaking and beautiful song. Gets me every time.

You're from Zeeland?
Ha, nah, but I think it's a decent band. Got quite a few catchy songs. That one song is something else though, probably going to end up using it for my funeral or something crazy.

I'm digging the many different styles of music posted so far, Ăśbermatik's and Kaako's posts in particular. This is a nice way of discovering artists and songs I've never known about before.
Thanks for sharing everybody!

If I need to calm down or if I'm just too stressed out I will listen to Old Man and Heart of Gold from Neil Young... Here's a handy video that has both together!

It got to a point where it was pretty much a signal for my friends and family that I was having a really bad day if I posted that video on Facebook lol. I've had a couple of VERY stressfull months this summer because of work stuff so I listend to a lot of Neil lol

Other than that... The song "Voice of the soul" by Death is one of the prettiest song I've had the chance to listen in my life. Seriously it's the song I want played at my funerals one day... I really hate death metal in general but this song is beautiful an full of melancholy.

preach, brother. I can't put on some Sigor Ros albums. They affect me way too much.

This song reminds me a some good first dates. Little snippets of video play in my mind when I close my eyes. A great way for me to calm down when I have an anxiety attack: Kishi Bashi - Q & A

If I had opened this thread without finding a single Kishi Bashi post, I would have thrown down the hammer.

Bachelors of Science - The Ice Dance

This Will Destroy You - They Move on Tracks of Never-Ending Light

Kishi Bashi - In Fantasia

Kishi Bashi - Philosophize In It! Chemicalize With It!

Kishi Bashi - I Am the Antichrist to You

Jon Hopkins - Breathe This Air ft. Purity Ring

Punch Brothers - Another New World

Jane Doe by Converge - More specifically from 7:05 onward. The entire album is a crushing in it's speed and abrasive-ness, and then this interlude hits and it's just perfect in it's exhausting desperation.

One of my favorite pieces of music ever.

edit: It might be better to hear that in the context of the rest of the song, but I understand that it can be very challenging to listen to if uninitiated.

Nature and Organisation - Tears for an Eastern girl
This whole album is full of emotion, but this song in particular really makes me feel

The emo band I Hate Myself wrote a lot of stuff that is as emotionally powerful as their band name is cliche.

I Hate Myself - To a Husband at War
Yesterday, a telegraph said that you had died
But I knew, but I know that it was a lie
I tried to laugh
But I went back to my room and cried
I mean our room
I went back to our room and cried

Retreat, and come back home.
Just thinking of that passage almost makes me on the verge of tearing up. I can't imagine how powerful it would be to those who lost their loved ones at war.

This album. The whole thing is a story about a man who falls in love with a bipolar, terminally ill woman. It's pretty heart wrenching.

Listen to the whole thing if you have the time.

This is practically my entire music library, but I guess I'll just post a few of my favorites.

Hidamari Michi to Ren chon - Non Non Biyori
Pure bliss. This song always makes me forget any of my worries, as does most of the soundtrack.

Jibun Rashiku - Shigatsu wa Kimi OST
This song invokes a feeling of nostalgia for me, and I'm not really sure why because it's from a show that aired relatively recently. I think the melody is similar to a song I've heard before. It's also just a really calming song in general.

Kiss - 5cm per second
I love the way this song develops. It starts out as something more warming and blissful, and is everything in the world is right. Then it starts building up into something more than just you, something more exciting. In the end it comes back down and makes you remember those feelings of loneliness that was there at the start.

Dream - Priscilla Ahn
My favorite part about this song is the lyrics. They are quite simple in nature, but make you sort of reflect on your own life.

Reflection Eternal - Nujabes
This song is really calming, but also feels more personal to me because I listened to it a lot during some harder times when I was younger.

Raised bed - Rewrite
Such a relaxing song. Makes you look forward to the end of the day and reflecting over what happened. Rewrite also has lots of other relaxing songs like this one and this one. I also really like Sanka, which is less relaxing and more sorrowful, especially if you've played the game.

A mother's hand - Nagi no Asukara
Quite a depressing song. The song gives me the feeling of a struggle, and trying to overcome it.

Can't Say Goodbye to Yesterday - MGS2
The one MGS song everyone seems to forget, but it's my favorite in the series.

As for something that envokes more feelings of happiness rather than sad emotions, I really like Rum Hee by Shugo Takumaru.

So many more songs I want to post but I'll refrain from doing so.

the first gymnopédie, strongly associated with a specific epoch in my life

I would have mentioned this song if someone else didn't. One of my personal favorites too.

Thank You for Being Born from Umineko and The Palm of a Tiny Hand from Clannad: After Story can calm me down very nicely.

The entire Clannad OST is one hell of an emotional ride. Nagisa Warm Piano always gets me though, specifically right at the 1:55 mark.

This.

Also, my favourite movie.

Hard to beat One Summer's Day though.

You know, I use to think that video games set you free from all that is going on in life but, music is still the cure for me. Anytime I start feeling awkward, music assures me that all is ok.

Anything by:
Lou Reed
Roger Waters
Freddie Mercury

Lance Hayes was the composer of this song. The whole album is just great, but this song in particular stands out. Whenever I need time to myself, I just throw this song on and daydream or work on whatever projects I have to work on.

One thing that I've noticed is that it makes me less stressed, which some songs aren't too great at doing.

I seriously recommend this to anyone who needs to relax after a day or just need something relaxing to listen to in the background.

It always gets me..

Tool "Reflection"
https://youtu.be/ja3LGFY1i0o

.."I have come curiously close to the end, down
Beneath my self-indulgent pitiful hole,
Defeated, I concede and
Move closer
I may find comfort here
I may find peace within the emptiness
How pitiful

It's calling me...

And in my darkest moment, fetal and weeping
The moon tells me a secret - my confidant
As full and bright as I am
This light is not my own and
A million light reflections pass over me

Its source is bright and endless
She resuscitates the hopeless
Without her, we are lifeless satellites drifting

And as I pull my head out I am without one doubt
Don't wanna be down here feeding my narcissism.
I must crucify the ego before it's far too late
I pray the light lifts me out
Before I pine away.

So crucify the ego, before it's far too late
To leave behind this place so negative and blind and cynical,
And you will come to find that we are all one mind
Capable of all that's imagined and all conceivable.
Just let the light touch you
And let the words spill through
And let them pass right through
Bringing out our hope and reason...
before we pine away."...
