Music you can chill/relax to

Melorman - Apricot Fields A lot like Boards of Canada. Out In a Field is a beautiful album.

Tim Story - Perhaps Shadowplay is one of my favorite albums for relaxation. I might even put it in my top ten favorite albums.

Ludovico Einaudi - Fly Ludovico is a great composer. I recommend any of his albums, but Divenire was the first I fell in love with.

Max Richter - Embers Max Richter makes some beautiful music.

Ólafur Arnalds - Ljósið A great Icelandic composer who, hopefully, will continue evolving and making mesmerizing music. The video is quite hypnotizing.

I know plenty of other music that I would consider relaxing, but those are just a few off the top of my head.

Multiple tracks on Jamiroquai's newest album Rock Dust Light Star are very, VERY relaxing. Except for White Knuckle Ride -- listen to that if ya wanna dance!

Bach's piano music (even if it wasn't originally for the piano) is pretty good for relaxing. In particular, the Well-Tempered Clavier and the Goldberg Variations. Some slow orchestral pieces as well, like the Adagio from Beethoven's 5th Piano Concerto, Mahler's slow movements are pretty amazing too. (5th Symphony, the Adagietto is very famous) Oh, and Der Abschied (last movement of Das Lied von der Erde), a 30 minute long orchestral song, also by Mahler.

Personal picks would be Mezzanine (Massive Attack), Dummy (Portishead), Screamadelica (Primal Scream) and Moon Safari (AIR), with Plastic Beach (Gorillaz) a worthy mention as well for a recent album; one this side of the 90s.

Debussy - Clair de lune
Yoko Kanno - memory
Yura Yura teikoku - Into the night
Cocteau Twins - Sea Swallow Me
Nujabes - Aruarian Dance
Radiohead - Weird Fishes/arpeggi
Radiohead - Nice Dream
Radiohead - Kid A
Chopin - op 10 no 3 in e major
Tsuneo Imahori - Philosophy in a Teacup
Shinichi Osawa - Thank you for your love
Ulrich Snauss - Einfeld

Nujabes (covered)
Fat Jon (specifically his Afterthought and Lightweight Heavy albums as well as his part on SC's Departure)
The Braid Soundtrack (and the involved artists' solo work. specifically Jami Sieber's Hidden Sky album)
London Philharmonic Orchestra's covers of Pink Floyd
MF DOOM's Special Herbs series
Deltron 3030 intrumentals

Dirty Projectors-Bitte Orca
The xx
Beach House
Soundtracks like the Eternal Sunshine one, the Garden State one, Lost soundtrack
The Shins

Some great choices throughout the thread with awesome tunes. Here are some that have been neglected:

Balmorhea - San Solomon & Theme No. 1

The Cinematic Orchestra - All Things to All Men, Flite, All That You Give, Time & Space

Express Rising - Ithaca Summer, Neighborhood, Ice Stopped. Anyone who likes DJ Shadow and/or Boards of Canada needs to check this guy out.

Marconi Union - Sleepless, Interiors, A Temporary Life.

Quantic - Time is the Enemy. Heck, the entire The 5th Exotic album is fucking balls to the wall awesome. Check it.

I suppose as close as I come to chill music is some Blackmore's Night or other folk/renaissance/rock hybrid stuff.

Music isn't a "chill" thing for me.

Some really good beats to chill to in this thread. I'll definitely second the DJ Shadow, Sade, Massive Attack, Radiohead, Nujabes, BT and Chopin recommendations.

My recommendation for a good hip-hop record to chill to is Aesop Rock's Float. If you dig that, give a listen to Labor Days and None Shall Pass as well.
