Musou Orochi 2 Announced for PS3/360

Thing is too is that way more crazy stuff gets thrown around in Orochi than in DW.

So I suspect even if Omega Force does some work on the engine it's going to be counterbalanced by the insanity.

Looks like the entirety of the DW cast is making it in, including Bao Sanniang....blargh
Also not likely but here's hoping: the DW cast has the ability to switch between two sets of weapons.

Is that what the C, B and D things are on Hanbei, Zhao and Ma Chao? If so then it shouldn't be as bad as before to grind.

What if it takes WAN MIRRIONNNNNN enemy officers to raise one level.

I wasn't bothered overmuch by frame rate drops in DW7 - the jaggies around the soldier models were more bothersome, especially when you go up close to talk to them in camp.

Pumped for this one. Once again, it's LOO BOO!

New scan's out,

Characters: Shutendoji (new and lol), Kiyomori, and Pang De

I'm gonna say they can make Folklore Musou next.

I thought the drops were rare enough to not really bother me. Maybe they also did more optimization.

That reminds me, the PS2 version of WO2 had some serious slowdown on one of the last stages [I forget what kingdom it was for... it was the one with the ships]. I'm guessing the 360 version didn't have it.

I hope they don't bring back the Dream Stages... or if they do they'll let you choose what characters to use... and hopefully make them less of a pain to unlock.

I like Shuten-dōji's look and I'm interested in seeing how he plays. I could see him fighting beating down people with his fists and then using the giant sake bottle with charge attacks.

So, how is the fighting system in this one?
Random gameplay systems speculation:

I was thinking earlier about how they will deal with the different Musou systems from DW7 and SW3 and I got an idea: Have 2 musous per character. DW7 peeps get both of their Musou's from that, while SW3 peeps get their normal Musou for one and Musou Kaiden for the other.

Also, I can see the EX and Switch attacks from DW7 being handled in one of two ways: Just simply being added on to the normal moveset as another charge attack or being the characters' R1 attacks.

Lastly, I wonder if they will somehow include the Spirit Charge from SW3. That was the big thing that really made me love SW3's combat compared to previous games and it would be a shame to lose it.

In MOZ and the English PSP WO2 yo ucould choose what characters you played as for Dream Stages (I think you had to beat them once first tho). I don't see why they wouldn't do that here if Dream Stages make a return.

The website was updated today with some story info, CG / voice of the new guy Shuten-dōji a few pictures of dialog scenes and a surprise trailer:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FpEBlwysnks

I'm impressed by the number of enemies on screen and I really like the minimalistic HUD during gameplay. I also wonder if that curve under their Health / Musou meters are for. Spirit Charge? Separate meter for team based moves? Something completely new?

New info from Famitsu.
- Nezha is shown as a new character. Those rings are his weapon.
- Kaguya is shown using floating mirrors in an attack that shoots / reflects lazers from them.
- Pang De is shown using the Xiahou Dun's DW6 weapon (like he will in DW NEXT). This likely means that Dong Zhuo will get the bombs and Yue Ying will get the Dagger Axe as they do in NEXT.
- More info is given on Wonder type. It's speciality seems to be breaking enemy guard to inflict critical hits.
- Dash Chain and Break Guard are two new moves that all characters can do.

Besides the 3 being playable: Modern Tokyo will be mixed into the Anegawa stage, An European Castle will appear as part of Mt. Ding Jun and Troy Ruins will be part of the Nanzhong stage.

Dragged into the distortion when chasing an evil presence
Anegawa stage has Modern Japan parts added

Jeanne d'Arc, weapon: Spear
Dragged into the distortion when trying to save a unit that gets dragged there
Mt. Dingjun stage has Medieval European fortress added

Achilles, weapon: Xiphos
Dragged into the distortion when being pelted by arrows during the Trojan war
Nanzhong stage has Greek buildings added

Bonds between characters can be increased by having them in a team.
By increasing bonds more things are unlocked, such as the True Combination Attack, new stages and quote changes.

Switch Combo consumes Musou gauge

When True Combination Attack is activated, the other characters will also appear and attack the enemy.
Character switch during TCA is also possible.
All enemies beaten with TCA will definitely drop items.
TCA finishes with a huge explosion.

This video confirmed a Day 1 purchase for me. I just need an English release date so I can decide if it's worth importing or waiting.

The new characters look fantastic and the overall gameplay looks very smooth. I'm stoked that Eigi from SW3 made it into the game, but it looks like it might be exclusive to Wonder type characters. Since you don't have the 5 orbs you fill, now it takes some of your musou bar to do.

The video also confirmed that Musashi is back as well as Himiko and Sun Wukong (who is now a Wonder type). Sasaki Kojiro, Ishikawa Goemon, Zuo Ci, Sanzang and Benkei are seen at the end group shoot as well and Dodomeki is even seen as an enemy a few times. At this point I think it's safe to say everyone from WOZ will be in this and there should be no fears for cut characters.

The Create a Scenario mode looks like it could have a add endless replay value to the game as well.

Did anyone find it funny that they showed Lu Bu and Tadakatsu together, facing off with someone then the huge group shot. They tried to make it look as if it was them 2 versus everyone else ... except they are part of the groupshot as well!

________

Nemea Langaster Deingull from Trinity: Souls of Zill O'll and Ayane from DoA are also guest characters in the game. The Hasedo stage will get a beach section for DoA and Kyushu will get a dungeon section for Trinity.

________

New Character: Susano-o aka the one who kills Yamata no Orochi in Japanese Mythology.

Other big news is that the game will have online co-op.

Am I the only one getting this game this week?

I'm just waiting on Amiami to ship out my order. Probably won't be here til next week, though. :lol

But yeah, this is what I've been waiting for. I can just wait for Koei to release a new Orochi game every few years and just skip the "mainstream" DW and SW games, at this point!

Damn, a 360 version of this game needs to come out in the States. Like right now.
Warriors Orochi was one of the first games I ever 1000/1000'd. So much fun, that game.
And with Hayabusa, Jeanne d'Arc, and Achilles? Oh man I want to play this.

C'mon, release it here...make up for your lack of a 360 version of Warriors: Legends of Troy in NA.

Edit: Holy Shit! Ayane from DOA is in this game???!!!
Release it here, Tecmo Koei. Now. I swear, if they don't do it..........

Edit 2: Apparently I posted in this thread a while ago. Weird, because I couldn't remember knowing about this game when I entered the thread half an hour ago. I'm losing my damn mind.

Have it preordered from Amiami. Now I just need to track down some bro to get the game magazine DLC costumes.

Okay, Musou Orochi 2 is good. Really good.

-The game suffers a bit visually; DW7, Hokuto Musou, and I think even the ported-up Sengoku Musou 3Z look better, but MO2 seems to have way more enemies on the map and on-screen compared to those games. The first stage you play even has a giant multi-headed Orochi-serpent blowing fire down onto the map as an additonal hazard. The frame rate fluctuates, but it's nowhere near as bad as DW7.

-Only played a few stages, but haven't seen any new enemies yet. It's essentially the same line-up from the previous game.

-Between stages, you move around a small "home base" area similar to Dynasty Warriors 7. You can speak with other characters, buy weapons/upgrades, get info, change characters, etc.

-There's only one campaign mode now, but it seems to be HUGE. After the intro stage, the game seems to have divided itself into two paths. One takes you back to previous events in the main(?) characters' lives. I was skipping through a lot of the story, but it appears that new character Kaguya appears and allows them to go back to the past to change the outcome of events that led to a lot of other characters' deaths at the hands of the Orochi forces. You must have whoever's stage it is on your team in these levels but can choose whoever you want for the remaining teammates. I started playing these levels, and just like the previous games, you get Dynasty or Samurai Warriors-themed stages, with Orochi elements "invading" the landscape. Got three more characters for clearing one of these stages. The other path looks like it's going to progress the main story further.

-There are power, speed, technique, and wonder character classes. Not sure if there's anything more. So far my favorite character is Samurai Warriors 3's Hanbei, who is awesome here just like he was in that game.

-Each character retains the techniques from his/her game, complete with musou super attacks themed in the same style as the game they came from, so you get different effects depending on whether or not the character is from DW, SW, or MO.

-The game play feels more like the other Orochi games/Samurai Warriors/Dynasty Warriors up until DW5 than Dynasty Warriors 7; the controls feel tighter and you feel like you have more control over your character, plus everyone can do jump+triangle attacks again.

Can't wait to play this more.

Awesome, thanks for the impressions. I'm way to busy with Gundam Extreme VS. to import another title right now but I've not forgotten about this one. I'm still hoping we'll get some news from KT during the Spring about a US version as I would play the heck out of it.

Ah good someone else besides me imported! Barely touched it, just downloaded my santa outfits and tried a little of stage 1, so I can't say much. But I'm super excited though. . . Been waiting the last few months for it, its my xmas present to myself.

And yeah, Hanbei is the best, as good as he was from SWC

My copy shipped from Amiami earlier yesterday, so I won't be playing this til likely Tuesday. But in any case, everything I've been reading and hearing sounds like this is the one worth waiting for. Can't wait.

I'm currently playing this and enjoying it quite a bit despite not really being into sangoku style games at all.

I completed chapter one and I've got a nice selection of characters available.

Quality wise it's a pretty crappy game (nothing new there) but it is a heap of fun and you can put a lot of time into it. All the unlocks are something to look forward as well.

This better come to the States, I'm dying to play SW3Z characters since KOEI is stupid with its exclusivity.

Hmmm, watching a friend play the game from my US 360, it clearly calls the game "Warriors Orochi 3".

I'd really love to get into a good ole "Warriors" game again, and all the bonus characters just make this nuts. Ayane + Musou = Win! (And Bladestorm representation... really enjoyed that game, too...)

I really enjoyed the first 2 orochi musous, but I find OM2 to be lacking. Maybe it's just me but I feel that a lot of fun is lost when these games no longer run at 60fps.

The only other musou game I have played on the PS3 is Hokuto Musou, and while the frame rate in OM2 is quite a bit better, I still find it hard to enjoy a musou game that has such an inconsistent sub-30fps frame rate. There are a lot of enemies on screen but still half of them are invisible at the same time. The HUD and messages also take up a ton of space and make things hard to see especially in 2 player split-screen - the map alone takes up 1/4 of each player's screen! All of the problems above have made it hard for me to tell what exactly is going on when I'm wading through an army of fodders.

I have only played 4 stages so far, but the game feels extremely easy so far. The named generals can dish out quite a bit of damage when they unreleash their musou attacks but I find that I am usually able to finish them off in 1 or 2 switch combos. Killing fodders feel like cutting through paper and the feedback of registering hits is weak. Of course, all other musous have been this way, but for some reason I feel that it's especially weak in this entry.

Unlocked Hayabusa and Ayane yesterday, they're so good. I used to love Kunoichi, but I think Ayane replaces her now. It's also super awesome that they both have their Izunas. They're make a great AoE shockwave upon ground impact :D

That said, it really feels like they improved the DW7 characters as well or something. Be it new movesets/decloned or new priorities. (Yue Ying uses a dagger axe again!) But it's great that almost everyone has a really effective jump charge attack now. I really can't stop praising this game.

Also Koei on top of it already, new patch!

4 new BGMs were added (Samurai Scanner, Optic Line, Fusion!!!, Limpid Luster)
Fixed hit counter issue (? I think)
Fixed freezing issue after soft reset before battle.
Fixed freezing issue with Susano-o's normal attacks when he's level 1-3
