Must Have PS Vita Games

Ys-Memories-of-Celceta-English-North-America-Cover-Box-Art-by-Xseed-Falcom.jpg

Ys: Memories of Celceta, I bought a Vita just to play this game, everything else is an extra.

Just bought this last week. Haven't gotten into it yet but it looks great.

Can anyone come up with a list for local only coop and online coop games? Just got a 2000 for me and giving my launch Vita to my wife. We've got LBPV and and both Rayman games, to start.

Thanks!

Outside of everything mentioned, I'm gonna say the Michael Jackson Experience HD. As silly as it sounds its a pretty fun rhythm game that utilizes the touch screen on the Vita. I'd recommend it if you like MJ's songs.

Anyone recommend Deception IV? Seems interesting.

Also, Dragon's Crown is free in August for PS+! Get it!

I actually prefer the older titles over IV, but it's good if you're a fan of the series. Deception II/III I thought were hands down better. DIV tries a few things new and it's the same concept, but I couldn't get into the characters with their style and charisma.

Didn't want to start a new thread, so I'll ask here:

What are the more intelligent, "thinking" games on Vita? Like mind-benders, something requiring strategy and creativity. I skipped the PSP, so those games are welcomed as well.

I found no threads with my answer, so I guess my question'll go here:

Is Persona 4 Golden physical-only? There isn't a digital version of it for Vita?

Everybody seemed to forget Super Stardust Delta for some reason.

Lumines were mensioned earlier but its a great if you haven't played it before.

Don't forget all PSP games, all Locoroco games holds up really well and MGS peace walker is the best in the series according to many.

Just started MGS3 and it seems like a good game so that.
And Tearaway is one of the best platform adventures I've played, the music alone makes it worth buying.

Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3 is good if you can stand having two empty character slots as the DLC is unavailable now.

Edit: and Gravity Rush is without a doubt the systems best exclusive.

Waiting for Dragon's Crown for tomorrow PS+ offering. I might enjoy it by looking at GAF's reaction to this game.
I bought Vita for Disgaea 3. All DLC included really make this port great.

Enjoyed playing:
- Disgaea 3 (D4 released end of this month, mark your calendar)
- P4G (of course)
- Ys Celceta
- FFX HD
- Demon Gaze
- Conception II
- Sorcery Saga
- Gravity Rush (surprisingly good)
- Muramasa Rebirth (really good with Vita OLED)
- Monster Monpiece (bar online, rarely got anyone playing)

I tends to buy games physically, but in case of I can't find any R1game cart(I'm not in NA), I'll buy digitally. I'd say currently I've bought 25% physical and 75% digital games for VIta.

If Spelunky or Rogue Legacy are a thing you think you can get into, the Vita is the best possible way to play them. The ease of access and comfy controls make them so easy to pick up. Haven't really played a mobile game since I got into these. Usually play them in short bursts, but those times add up really quickly. I sunk a lot of hours into Dragon's Crown and Soul Sacrifice as well.

Virtue's Last Reward is indeed also nice as others have stated, but it pretty much hinges on you having played 9 Hours, 9 Persons, 9 Doors on the DS. It's a visual novel/escape the room type of series. I wouldn't look up too much about this one if you're potentially interested, since spoilers are plentiful and easy to stumble on.
MGS peace walker is the best in the series according to many.
/me does a spit take.

I don't want to derail the thread with a tirade about how Peace Walker is by far the worst game in the series in my eyes, but is this really a thing? Everything I like about MGS games is either absent, dumbed down or actively made worse. The only saving grace of that title was the base management and fulton kidnappings, and those weren't very MGS-like. There are several better MGS games on the PSP if you want to dip into the series.

Lots. Some of them:

Virtue's Last Reward ~but only~ if you have played 999 first. Be forewarned that the future of this series is very uncertain at this point.

Danganronpa is a recommended. At least with the sequel already announced you don't have to worry about its future unlike VLR.

Disgaea 3 and soon-to-be-released Disgaea 4 are crack in game forms, especially if you like SRPGs and leveling up.

Persona 4 Golden. One of Vita's Raison D' Etre.

Tearaway. Unique concept and one of very few Vita games that utilizes all of Vita's bells and whistles in a good way. It's a very easy game though, and you play this for the "experience" not for the "challenge."

Gravity Rush... I put it in here mostly because "it's the game that started it all." The visuals can be drab and the game can be monotonously boring, but well, it's the grand-daddy of all Vita games, although it is a 7/10 at best in my opinion.

Dragon's Crown is great, with the ability to cross play with PS3 users! Fantastic music and graphics, with good gameplay to boot.

Ys Celcetta is a great action RPG game, although with a rather unfortunate caveat of terrible-looking graphics.

Metal Gear HD Collection is awesome, and a much, much better purchase than Metal Gear Solid 3 on 3DS, which is bleh.

I'll post more later.

North America is pretty much starved for rhythm games,
so DJ Max Technika Tune.

Danganronpa

also, a Playstation+ subscription.
Nearly everything listed on this topic has been free at one point.

Do yourself a favour and buy a 32GB memory card.

I thought it was fine but I liked portable ops more.
I actually can't stand either of those titles. They simply aren't fun to play on the PSP. It's a real shame Kojima Pro just didn't realize the old MGS1/2 style of play would work well on PSP and make a game like that.

PO's just had pretty bad controls to me and was sluggish to play. I also really hate the "capture troops thing".

PW is just crap to me honestly. The controls are a mess on PSP, to the point that aiming is a fight in itself. Which I guess dosen't matter because this being a stealth game means you can just run up to guards and CQC them. Don't even have to crouch or take it slowly. Just run up and maybe if you're lucky you can chain cqc them.

Though if you want to use your gun, well you can just go in the corner of these small levels and just shoot the guards. Works better on PS3 since you can actually aim and now pretty much every room/level in the game is a cakewalk and really requires nothing of you. The ai is braindead and since they've dropped the puzzle elements of MGS1/2 theres really nothing to do to them beyond shoot or cqc. The levels are super small and because of that the player needs some leeway so of course the AI can't have a big cone of view or a big pattern of movement. Add it all up and it's a pretty brainless stealth game for pretty much every level.

The boss battles are also pretty much the definition of un-fun for a solo player. They are long and boring. They aren't hard, they just take forever to kill. So pretty much every boss battle is you using up all your ammo and then waiting for a supply drop. Over and over. It's the definition of tedium.

Of course you could say "oh level up your equipment". yes which means I have to grind. Grind through those boring ass missions that weren't fun the first time. Yes that sounds good.

I don't get why people think PW is one of the best in the series. It's so bad on a gameplay level. A story level. Well I'm too far gone to care anymore. I don't like the boss stuff because the entire thing with Hot Coleman feels like an idiotic and pointless retcon. The entire story feels uneeded and has the least interesting characters in the series. Also who thought it would be a good idea to get rid of the bossess/boss group thing thats in every MGS. That person needs to be fired, because whats there instead sucks.

Sorry, I really hate PW. PO is just kind of a silly game.

Top mouments in that game:

Jonathan has died and Soklov being alive somehow, oh who cares we'll forget about that like 5 mins later.

That game just felt ill-suited for the PSP. Maybe it's better on Vita. I don't know, You still have kind of meh level design though. Parts of that game I just felt like running through the missions to be done with it.

I'm going to assume you're on a budget OP seeing as you're after 'must-have' games.

Must-have -
Persona 4 Golden
Dragon's Crown
PS+ subscription
Vita 32gb or 64gb memory card

With that you will have more than enough to play. Then after that you can pick up some of the other games that tickle your fancy.

Good to great tier gaming worth the price of admission -

Akiba's Trip
Danganronpa
Everybody's Golf
FFX Remaster
Monster Monpiece
Muramasa
Tearaway
Toukiden
Tokyo New World Order (hope that comes out to the west)
Virtue's Last Reward
Uncharted: Golden Abyss

As a fan of Japanese games - the Vita has surpassed 3DS in terms of games I want to play imo.

Come on, Demon Gaze fans. Come out of the bush and suggest the game for the OP.

I wont recommend Demon Gaze cause it ruined my gamer life. The game is too addictive and I only played 20 hours till now... what the fuck.

OP, get Demon Gaze. Trust me.

Also get:

FFX/X-2 HD Remaster for portable awesomeness
Danganronpa
Gravity Rush
Tearaway
Ys Celcetta
Dragons Crown for portable awesomeness

But seriously, get Demon Gaze.

Danganronpa (Visual novel with a touch of insanity and zaniness, loved it)
Final Fantasy X (Classic FF game, play it if you never did)
Deception IV (Setting traps to kill intruders, might not be everyone's cup of tea though)
There's also P4G, Ys, Gravity Rush, Toukiden, Tearaway, Dragon's Crown, Muramasa Rebirth, Killzone : Mercenary... #toomanygaems

since everyone already explained the good ones and very few mentioned it...

Toukiden. Lots of fun if you like hunting games, more so it's gorgeous with a great resolution on the game and very detailed models, and it runs great!

Not sure where else to discuss this, but does anyone else have squeaky button issues with their Vita?

My launch Vita developed squeaky Square and X buttons over time, which caused me to want to get a Vita 2000.

So, I just got a Vita 2000, and it's got squeaky Square and X buttons right out of the box... This is ridiculous!

So...I hesitate to ask, but...

Hatsune Miku: Project DIVA ƒ...

Actually good, or just a running joke?

I enjoyed it, but unless you're a big Hatsune Miku fan, I'd say that DJ Max Technika Tune is the better music game. More songs, better music, better visuals, and more interesting gameplay (DJM is touch-based and plays like Elite Beat Agents, while HM is mostly buttons).

Tearaway, Killzone: Mercenary, Rogue Legacy, Spelunky, FFX-X2 remaster, and Gravity Rush. Tearaway is really great stuff, I'd recommend that first.

Yes, my launch Vita has a squeaky Square button, and its really annoying.. :(

Must have Games?

Playstation Plus...then Sony just give you all the games!
Slightly serious on that, i've been time and time again given games i planned on buying, plus the sales with extra discount are epic

other than that

FFX/X2
MGS HD
Gravity Rush
Uncharted (Free with plus)
BroForce (when its released)
Ys

then lots of the good PSP/PS1 games

Can't comment on any of the other games really though i hear good things

As a side note from my personal experiences

Tearaway, had the demo, looked awesome no beautiful....was a bit of a rubbish platformer that made up for that with its charm...get the demo and try before you buy

KillZone; Looks amazing, never got past the first level, i keep getting crashes before the end of the level, deleted my save and redownloaded the game (digital) to no avail...killed my enthusiasm for it, but its been patched again so i'm tempted to try once more

Don't know what you saw, but it's tough to really understand what the game is based on a few videos.

As said before, it's a VN, so it's obviously story-driven. The premise is a bunch of high schoolers are trapped in a school by a psychotic bear robot who gives them the option of killing one of their fellow classmates to escape. When a murder happens, a trial takes place, which is sort of Phoenix Wright on steroids in presentation, though mechanically distinct. Before the trials, you do some investigating to find the culprit, and before that, you get to know your classmates in the "daily life" segments akin to social links in Persona 3 and 4.

What makes the game great for me and probably a lot of people is the contrasting tones of bleakness and over the top insanity. Characters treat deaths as the horrifying events they are, yet everything is so ridiculously stylized (like pink blood) that it creates a sort of cognitive dissonance that works surprisingly well. That and the pacing is damn good, with crazy twists happening frequently and pieces of the overarching puzzle being added all the time.

If that sounds appealing to you, I'd give it a try, or at least look into it some more.

I already own the game and you've just sold me on it.

Wait a minute...I've just noticed that this is a Sega game.

We get this, but not the rest of the Yakuza games, because of the cultural differences? I really don't understand Sega.

Can anyone vouch for the Walking Dead games for the Vita?

I've never played them, and wanted to know if they're decent on the handheld. Also, having never played them, is it newbie friendly? I'd like to get my girlfriend (who knows nothing but Mario) to play it, provided it doesn't have a complicated/intense control scheme.

The games are 1. Easy. So you're girlfriend will be fine. 2. Decent ports. They're not the greatest (sometimes have framerate hiccups) but they play fine for someone who doesn't know to look for that stuff.

We get this because they translated the menus and called it a day.

The Walking Dead is very "newbie friendly." The only challenge I can thing your girlfriend would have is memorizing which face button is which, but that's easily overcome.

I played Season 1 and 2 on the Vita (after playing through Season 1 on the 360). The graphics are crisp and it plays very well. The story is excellent, too! I like Season 1 much better than Season 2 so far, but they are both a good time.

The only complaint, and this true for all console versions of Telltale's recent games, is that the game will chug when it tries to save and load the next scene. It's rather jarring, and it always sucks, but it's not explicitly a Vita issue.

I personally found TWD to be a perfect game to play on the go. I say go for it!

You've already got Gravity Rush, which is the most important. I'd suggest Tearaway, Killzone: Mercenaries, Velocity Ultra, WipEout 2048, PS All-Stars (at least if you're a big playstation lover), and OlliOlli.

1) Persona 4 Golden - still the best game on the system, great voice acting and an amazing murder mystery too
2) Virtua Tennis 4 - the World Tour mode makes it amazing for short burst play but still with long term enjoyment
3) Thomas Was Alone - amazing game, great music and unique look

then there are indie titles that i have already played on Steam

and that's it, most other titles i have are 'okay' to 'kind of addictive', but i have to say that i haven't yet touched Ys Memories Of Celceta

So...I hesitate to ask, but...

Hatsune Miku: Project DIVA ƒ...

Actually good, or just a running joke?

It's actually good, I can vouch for it.

The number of features in the game is surprising. They could've taken the easy way out and just gave the rhythm game, but there's an editing feature, online sharing, AR (for those who like that stuff), studio decoration.

The songs are really fun. Game's $30, with the DLC songs $10. Dunno if it has ever gone on discount.

I've gone ahead and imported Diva F 2nd, but I'm really disappointed with the sequel compared to the first. Songs aren't nearly as fun and diverse.

Wow, I've been hoping this game for a long time now but held off in hope of a sale. Hopefully that'll happen when the second one releases this month.

Interesting, thanks. It's €30 here, though - that's a bit harder to swallow on an unknown quantity. If it ever goes on sale, I might check it out.

I see the Europeans still can't catch a break with pricing equality.

Personally even I find 10$ for the extra songs to be very overpriced relative to the overall game. Hopefully there's a sale for it soon for everyone.

Fingers crossed. There's a Vita sale on EU PSN starting tomorrow.

I've watched a couple of vids, and this is now on my (ever growing) list.

I know you mentioned Persona 4, but heres my list for anyone who wants the best of the system:

Persona 4: The Golden
Gravity Rush
Tearaway
Little Big Planet Vita
Lumines: ES
Sound Shapes
