My cat got hit by a car tonight

Sucks dude, sorry to hear. One of my dogs a few years back didn't die in a car accident, but one night just got sick and died. Completely out of the blue. Prior to that night she had no symptoms of any diseases, then while jumping off the couch she yelped and became paralysed. A few hours later she was dead, and died gasping for breath as I was patting her.

I've lost two cats after a cat trapper/killer decided to move in next door. On minute they were there, the next gone. Just...gone.

Its such a horrible feeling.

I'll sound heartless, but I reserve that right seeing as how I've lost quite a few animals on my parent's farm before. Cry me a river, build a bridge and get the fuck over it.

Unless you're a fucking moron, you know perfectly well that the emotional connection you have with farm animals (or lack thereof) does not equate to the same connection between the op and his beloved pet. Your post is either an evidence of complete ignorance, or an attempt to troll and provoke someone upset.

Either way, fuck off.

You just wanted to use that stupid line, didn't you?

Cat trapper/killer? What the fuck. Surely that can't be legal? Can't you press charges?

I mean, I know the person who hit my cat most likely didn't mean to, but I still feel a bit of anger towards whoever did it, even if it isn't logical. If I knew my neighbor had intentionally murdered my cats, I'd probably go over there in a blind rage and not stop until one of us was a bloody pulp.

I actually relate more to you more than most of the people in this thread having seen many pets die, and spent lots of my childhood on farms watching (and sometimes assisting in) animal death. I get where you are coming from...

...but you don't have to be a dick about it.

Aw man, that sucks. Sorry for your loss. I lost a kitten to some dogs who were off-leash, so I feel your pain of a cat taken away too soon.

No, you sound like you're 12.

"Hey guys, I'm around death a lot, look at my big dick."

You can always count on the Internet to bring out the worst in people.

Sorry for the loss. It sucks , but it seems you are looking at this in a pretty healthy way.

My story of cat loss: I lost a wonderful cat a few years back. Some creepy kid killed him and threw him into a neighbor's yard. Pretty certain this kid also molested some children in the neighborhood. His father is a prominent law man. Here's hoping he lives long enough to see his son raped and bludgeoned to death in a prison shower.

Me-ow!

I'm sorry about your cat. I know what you're going through.

When I was 17, my dog which I'd had for 7 years was hit by a car and killed. So sudden. The despair was indescribable.

It got got easier, though that is little consolation at the moment. Stay strong and remember the good times, OP.

I dont think we can. I do believe my parents looked into the laws, and it was something about a right to protect his property or some such shit. He was a pigeon keeper, and worried about his birds, so he was apparently within the law to set up traps as long as they stayed on his property. Thing is he'd bait the traps, so cats would wander in, get caught, and he'd kill them. I think the law states that he's supposed to take them into the RSPCA if he catches them, not kill them, but nobody really had any solid proof that he was killing the cats (outside of his bragging). Its not like he kept skins up.

He was a mental, and once bragged to my Dad about how many cats he had caught. Even though he was confronted he always claimed he never caught our cats, but it was too much of a coincidence. We lived in a relatively quiet country town and had done so for years with no animal problems. A guy who brags about baiting, catching, and killing cats moves in next door, and within a couple of months both of our cats disappear. It had to be him.

My mum is a huge cat lover (self admitted crazy cat lady), and a few months later purchased (foolishly, as I thought at the time) two more cats. Shortly after one of those two went missing, and that evening my Dad caught him taking a cat out of his trap. Dad didn't realise it was our cat, but told threatened him into making sure he took it to the RSPCA and not kill it. He obviously did as shortly after we checked the RSPCA and there she was.

At the time I was a teenager, so I was filled with a lot of angsty teenage rage, and I came this close to sneaking out of the house and setting fire to his. I was absolutely livid.

Not long after we moved. We were in desperate need of a bigger house (younger sisters were growing up, needed their own rooms), and our plans to renovate had been declined by the council. My parents never admitted it, but I figure he was a significant factor in the move. My mum grew up with cats, and couldn't live without them. There's no way she could have kept living there.

We ruined his name locally by letting people know what he'd done, putting up notices, and letting people who moved into our old house know who they were living next to. Funnily (sadly) enough one of couples who moved in after we left had a cat, and it too disappeared. We also saw notices for missing cats occasionally go up at the local post office, all of which were located in the same area we lived.

But that was then. A shitty time, but a time gone.

My condolences on your loss. I'll hold my kitties for their lost brethren.

However, I do want to point out that cats really belong inside at all times. Spay, neuter, and keep your kitties inside. It's good for them, good for society (less feral cats). I recommend a screened porch or similar enclosure if your cats really enjoy the outside.

F' off.

My cat got hit by a car and died too. I feel your pain.

RIP.

That's true, and certainly what I'll do from now on. We just got too comfortable with our other cat, who we've had for about ten years now and let outside often - he probably spends more time outside than inside - and have never had any problems with. We just figured if Tiger could do fine, Moo could too. And... well, we were wrong.

Definitely won't be letting any future cats I get outside, no matter how much they beg. And I swear to god, if we get another cat while I'm still living with my parents and they decide to let it out after what's happened to our last two cats, I will slap the shit out of them.

I've seen a couple of Persian cats on leashes and harnesses in my apartment complex, but I dunno if most cats can tolerate that.

I'm sorry for your loss. My dog passed a couple of months back so I feel your pain. Try to keep yourself busy during the healing process, otherwise it can hit you pretty hard.

Sorry to hear.

I've lost pets due to getting hit and it really does make you feel like shit. I currently have two and they're inside all the time. At my mom's where they stayed for about six months, they were mostly outside. But it is safer, so that's what mostly matters.

Sorry to hear it man.

I just got back from the vet today with my Maine Coon. She came up to greet me on my porch the other day and one of her canines was flat out missing, and out of nowhere just kind of threw up while I was on the phone with the vet. They had to put her under and remove her other upper canine because that one was also apparently very loose and her lip is swollen on the inside. They did a biopsy as well because they think it could be cancer, or some immune deficiency problem (I can't recall what she said honestly, but I swear the word rodent came up).

Was very surprising because it seemed to come out of nowhere. Unfortunately even though she's always been very healthy, she's quite old now (13 years) so I can't help but fear that we're going to loser her soon.

My first cat was knocked over the same week my grandfather died. He was 2 years old too. Wasn't neutered and went missing for a week, we were worried and assumed he'd gone looking for pussy
lol
.

Someone told us they saw his body in the grass a few streets from us. One of the worst 5 minutes of my life having to look for what turned out to be a week old corpse of our first beloved cat.

So, my condolences, mate. Hope you get through it ok.

You having gone through a similar situation an unspecified amount of time prior gives you carte blanche to be a bag of dicks?

I was unaware of this rule.

Sorry for your loss. My first cat got hit by a car and crawled on his front paws for over a block and made it back to our house where we were able to find him. His hips were shot but were able to mend him back to help through surgery. He lived a good life but was taken from me after he was killed by a pack of rabid raccoons. It is hard but you still have the memories.

Sorry for your loss. One of the reasons mine will always stay inside. Had this happen in the past when I was a kid and it was always heartbreaking.

My condolences, I know how it is to lose a friend (Pet) I've lost about 4 cats in my lifetime.

When I lived in Lebanon (Mid East) I was used to having three-four outdoor cats at a time, they lived for many years, returned home with some scrapes and bruises, fighting other cats.

When I moved to Canada as a kid, I got my first cat from my History teacher, he was a beautiful cat, I figured Canadian suburbia is just as safe to have a half outdoor, half indoor cat, I was terrible wrong... my poor cat got mauled by a German Sheppard...down the street, he was in lotta pain, we had to put him down, that was one of the worst memories in my life of losing a pet, I remember sitting on my backyard steps and crying for half an hour after retuning from the vet.

Fast forward like 15 years later I had a cat 2 years ago, an amazing breed, an intelligent and playful black Japanese bobtail, again I couldn't stand leaving her indoors all day, ( she had waaay too much pant up energy inside, she always wanted to go outside and hunt birds etc.) So I start to let her out, she always came back home within 2 hours, one night she never got back and I never saw her again, we put up MISSING CAT flyers all over the neighborhood, knocked on like literally 50 doors in my neighborhood, and still never found out what happened to her.

Sorry for your loss. When my Dog died it was one of the saddest moment in my life. I still miss him so I know how you feel. :(

How many fish have you lost?

actually I lost probably a lot of Fish back in the Mid-east, we used to catch these small fish from the spring, my friends at the time loved frying them and eating them. they tasted soooo good.

The sensitive kid that I was, I put them in these huge glass jars, threw in some stones and plants in there for them, even changed the water for them every other day. but these little fuckers wouldn't last more than like two weeks they would all eventually die. I guess they weren't meant to be kept as pets :/
I should've just eaten them too

Wow, I was gonna make a thread exactly like this one.

My cat got hit by a car about 5 hours ago. I saw it happen, and she had broken legs but was still breathing but obvilouly in pain.

I just got back from the vet about an hour ago.....she was sadly put down. I feel pretty crap now. Had her for about 7 years : (

Ugh. Just woke up, and had some vague hope that it was a dream before I got out of bed. No such luck.

Nooo. :(

Sorry to hear that she was in pain for so long. If there's one think I can be thankful for, it's that Moo was hit in the head, so he didn't suffer.

And seeing it happen... I can't imagine.

Post some pictures, we can share this thread.

Having an animal get injured and feeling like you could've prevented it is a terrible feeling.

A year ago, a stray cat had begun hanging around the house. He would regularly walk below my window, meowing like males often do. One night, I caught him walking around the front yard. I was able to go inside, grab some wet cat food, and come back out without him running away. After about a week of throwing food near him -- not at him -- he walked up and started rubbing on me. He was mine after that, and I had intended to let him go in and out as he pleased. Alas, days later, he was hit by a car and came back with a shattered rear leg. Today, I have a healthy, albeit three-legged indoor cat.

It's easy to get down on yourself about things like this -- could've, would've, should've. But when a cat is let outside, there's almost no turning back. Take some solace in the fact that Moo really enjoyed his time outside.

I haven't taken any pictures of her in a while.....and I'm sleeping at my friends house tonight so I can't post any pictures : (

It sucks - to put it politely what happened tonight, but it’s somewhat comforting knowing that I’m not alone. To Moo and Bell!

Damn I hate these threads. I kept on ignoring it but had to come in.
Sorry to hear this OP.

I spent a night in jail when my cat got hit by a car. I actually saw it happen and it was a guy known to be always drunk. After I took my cat to the vet he couldn't save him. So rage got to me and I broke his door, and beat him up in his living room. I had that cat for 5 years :(

Just like Lucca's sidequest in Chrono Trigger...
