My DS fell from 3rd floor and survived the fall

This is one sturdy hardware. However the fall was not clean all the way, it was interupted by staircase on the second floor and then continued its downfall. After I picked it up, everything worked like normal (at least so far it does). Is 3DS as durable?

DSs are built like tanks. Their only weakness seems to be being left open and getting sat on. They hate that. As far as the 3DSXL? we have my daughters in one of those NERF cases. It looks like it just came out of the box. Brand new under that foam shell. It's taken some tumbles but none from 3 stories. I'd have to say after 15 months it's taken a beating and still looks and functions great.

Now try it with a Vita!

Yep, thought about this situation, if it was the other way around. But Vita seems so fragile, like a pale maiden closed in an Ivory Tower. I think the thought itself would break it, as a matter of fact I have to check it now to see if it's ok.

Last week my girlfriend dropped my 3DS off the couch onto the carpet while it was closed. My top screen only displays half of anything and my system turns off when I close it.

I'm single now.

Was your 3DS made of wet paper? My daughter (4) regularly plays with my wife's 3DS... dropping it, even at times throwing it and it's still good.

Don't think my XL would hold up as well though.

What are you talking about? Vita is heavy and solid with no hinge.

I'd be worried about scratches but that's about it.

I dropped violently my 3DS once and it's fine. I feared L/R bumpers would fly away considering all what I've read about them but nope.

Meanwhile my Wii U charger and Fit Meter broke for reasons I don't even know. The screen inside the meter is broken, but the outside casing is intact!

3 floors? Holy crap man. That Nintendium.

I'm unsure about the 3DS, I feel like its more fragile than the regular DS even though its the same shape and form. Something about the top screen feels like it would shatter if dropped.

My ds lite fell from my breast pocket from my jacket as I was picking it up from the floor and died.

Top screen was blank.

Both my DS lite and 3DS have been introduced to a variety of floors from a variety of heights and lived to brag about it.
Too bad that the coating of the 3DS slows off scratches more. After many years, the surface of my DS lite is covered in very light scratches, but you don't notice them unless you hold it to the light and look hard.
The 3DS however, is extremely proud of its battle scars and shows them off all the time.

Maybe I'm unlucky. I dropped my DSi XL only about a foot onto a hard floor a few weeks ago, and ever since the touch screen has been registering phantom touches near the top left corner of the screen. I've been debating whether to send it in for service or not.

I just got hit with a wave of nostalgia at remembering when the first DS was revealed and it was that big bulky grey thing and I wanted it so bad. I ended up getting a PSP in the end.

Nintendium is absolutely bananas. My young sister dropped my GBA SP from what i was sure would be a fatal distance, but it just ended up with a few scratches and chips.

My original DS fell out of my pocket and the hinges immediately broke, so the upper screen would forever be loose.
lol, thankfully happened at the end of it's gen.

My vita fell to the concret floor and nothing happened to it, the only problem with the built quality is that it can be scratched easily.

I have a little chillout area under my roof and thats 3 metres over my normal room.
My PSP fell down there countless times and its still working.

ONLY a 3rd floor fall ???

Kid these days ...

If at first you don't succeed, try again.

My DS lasted a while but the fringes started to crack and fray and one day it just came apart. I will say i find the 3DS hinges to be much more trustworthy to stand the test of time in that regard, as they appear to be designed to handle a bit more abuse.

I remember my gamecube got knocked off my desk and bounced around (while running and having a disc spinning inside of it) and not only was the gamecube perfectly fine but the disk didn't get any scratches from it. I accidently tipped over my 360 and my fifa 12 disc now has a huge burn mark and is obviously unusable. In general Nintendo makes some sturdy hardware.

Lol, my DSI XL dropped on a softish floor from a 50 cm height, and the shelf that connects the displays was destroyed, sturdy my arse.

slightly ashamed of how many times I've dropped my 3DS. It's hit some hard surfaces too. Still functions perfectly, and no notable scratches or anything. Pretty fuckin' sturdy.
