My first apartment; what should I expect?

I'll keep it short.

I'm going to be 25 this year and now I'm "finally" leaving my parents' home. (Probably around two weeks until I can settle in)

What did I do?

Update:
I've settled in ~two months ago. I need more decorative stuff. Living room only misses one painting above the couch. Old TV could be replaced by a slightly bigger one. It's hot in here: 28°C on a hot summer day.

If you helped out at your parents with tasks and such, not really a big deal except bills and the freedom is ace. Hope you don't get bad neighbors. Clean your bathroom and toilet.

If you get cockroaches look into mixing equal parts boric acid (powder form), peanut butter, and flour. Mix them into a bowl and distribute tiny globs all around the apartment, especially under your kitchen and bathroom sinks. In a few weeks you'll have pretty much eradicated them from your place.

Expect to hear your neighbors. Expect them to hear you as well. Expect parking to be annoying sometimes. Expect shared use areas to be a mess or not maintained very well.

Expect all of these things. If they don't happen, that's a win.

Pray each and every night for having great roommates if you're getting them. I lived with my best friend for 6 months and even after knowing him for years he ended up being the type I shouldn't have moved in with. Luckily after he moved out I was able to support myself (still doing it alone, easily) and we're still good. Just be careful about roommates.

Some people just don't take bills as seriously as you yourself do.

Expect to be stunned at the amount of random supplies that you take for granted being present in the house that you'll now have to buy yourself.

Your landlord will be doing everything possible to screw you out of your deposit. Do a walkthrough before moving in, and get pictures of everything. Do the same when leaving. Have renters insurance.

Pray that you don't have shitty or loud neighbors, it's all a game of chance. Also pray that your walls are somewhat insulated so it dulls some of it. Otherwise just make sure you eat well since you're taking care of yourself now, and be kind to/conscious of the people around you.

Also, get renters insurance as soon as you can. It's super cheap and comes out monthly but covers your stuff.

Oh and grab one of those plastic tubes of antibacterial wipes. Those things are handy for kitchen, bathroom, tables, pretty much anything. They disinfect and smell nice.

Enjoy freedom. Don't get roommates if you can help it. Pay your rent on time, keep your place clean and tidy.

Realize that no one is there to clean up after you and the more you put it off, the worse it gets.

Locate the nearest grocery store.

Have a plan for feeding yourself.

Go to your local Dollar Tree and stock up on supplies. Cleaning supplies, kitchen supplies, screw drivers, just go down every aisle and if you used it in your parents house throw it in the buggy cuz you'll probably need it.

this is the worst

I just need to stop by the store, pick up some soap, detergent, toilet paper...

wtf, how did I spend $100!

One of my neighbors at my first apartment was a "recovering" crack addict. One time he knocked on our door pantsless because he no longer needed his toilet paper and wanted to know if we wanted it but mostly he would steal our packages.

Our other neighbor thought our black, lesbian landlord was the leader of the American Nazi party.

I was so broke stocking up with supplies for my first place that I left walmart, got into my car, looked at the receipt, then proceeded to take maybe half the stuff right back into the store for a refund. The customer service rep was sympathetic thankfully.

You live in an apartment now.

Alone or roommates?
Alone.
is there something in particular you are worried about?
Not yet :-o
You'll spend a lot of money furnishing the place.

I'm already watching out for everything that's needed.
Get a good bed, since you'll be spending like a third of your time in there.
Something like this:

?
Where do you live and how much is your rent?
Germany. 210€ excluding costs for heating/electricity.
(Student pricing)

If you have carpet, then get a cheap vacuum. Get a plunger, get a bucket, mop and a broom.

Just keep shit clean. The local dollar store for misc supplies suggestion is an excellent idea. Don't be a super lazy piece of shit and just amazon everything to your door when you can get all the shit you buy once and forget for pennies.
