wow, i cant believe i skipped this game. ive never played the first outrun but i bought this game on a whim cos it was on the EB sale table. there was nothing else there so i got this. its an awesome arcade racer, a bit hard tho, maybe im weaksauce at it? :lol :lol drifting is much harder than in RR, well getting your car straight after a drift is, i always hit a wall or end up on the grass. apart from the challenges and normal arcade mode, are they the main modes of the game?

overall im really, really liking it. ive never really bothered with arcade wheels but i might get one for this. im guessing tho from the random isamu threads/rants there is no FF wheel for it tho?

Yeah, this is an awesome game. The drifting just takes it getting used to IMO, once you learn it it's awesome to slide between traffic on some crazy s turn. The challenges do add some length, but I honestly just loved taking different routes on the arcade mode, upping the difficulty when I'd mastered it. Some of the levels are just awesome, it's also a fantastic looking game.

As for the FF wheel, don't know I only have PS2 wheel. Bring on Coast 2 Coast.

i will be copping PSP coast to coast for sure. the ps2/xbox ones maybe budget price, but im gonna love me some portable outrun

Whenever I see LTTP I always think "Link to the Past" first than "Late to the Party" lol...

Anyways, how much did u find it for

I like the game a lot, but the drifting should be toned down a bit (less exaggerated) and the first person view should be more functional in the sequel.

You are most definitely weaksauce. Outrun 2 is one of the easiest arcade racers I've ever played (talking about arcade mode) ... BUT, I take great joy in the fact that you are liking this gem of a game. Spread the love!

Yup, loved this game. I was disappointed that Sega couldn't come up with some new tunes that matched the greatness of the originals, but I guess that's what makes those songs true classics.

I liked the drift mechanism. Quick retap of the gas or a slight tap of the brake sends your car into some full-on dori-dori sideways action. :D It's a cool feeling, and it captures the "drift" feel of the original, except that the visual representation here is more exaggerated.

Some stages have some odd framerate stutters, but they're pretty rare. It happens more often in Mission Mode, and man, are some of those brutal, throw-your-controller type of challenges.

Fun game, with some cool bonuses!

I have to disagree on both points only because the 2nd didn't seem that needed and the drifting should be wacky exaggerated like that. Sometimes it felt like you were playing a rhythm game rather than a racer, but it sure was unique. Beautiful fun game.

If the view is selectable, it should be very functional, which it isn't. You may enjoy the drifting mechanics, but the novelty really wears thin quickly for me, whereas something like Ridge Racers doesn't.

I actually got tired of the in-game music and now turn it off. Sumo Digital needs to make sure to support custom soundtracks in the future.

Post of the thread though getting tired of the drift mechanic is essentially saying that you get tired of the game. Yea, RR6 was more fun but O2 was good too.

I see what you're saying about the view.

The drifting, or novelty, seems to me to be intrinsic to what makes the game unique. But if you find it tiresome I can see why the game itself might begin to grate. I don't play it all the time anymore either. I did prefer it handily to RR on ps2 and psp but I haven't tried the new 360 game.

:lol :lol :lol im getting better at it though! i got the game for $20AU, been playing it all night along with spurts of RR6

This is the first Xbox game I bought and still one of my favorites... an unpretentious racer with classic style game music, no EA trax licensed crap*, beautiful graphics, a great drift mechanic (I dunno but RR just seems too easy to drift for me), it's really the perfect pick up and play game, as you can "beat" it in 7 minutes. It's a shame there's no split screen racing.

*though I remember playing a bit of Burnout 4 and seeing an Infusion track come up in EA trax... I was like WTF???

This was the first game I bought for my Xbox (Jan '05). After playing it for months, I am now in the habit of digging it out about 1 day a month and progressing the challenge mode or whatever its called. I've beaten everything except those last 3 uber-long races, which I doubt I'll ever do.

I squealed like a pig, giggled like a schoolgirl, squirmed like a worm, when I unlocked Super Gt and Daytona 2 tracks! YEEEE HAW! Great fun arcade racer! :) :)

It's funny...after I played OutRun 2 SP last year, my interest in the XBox version plummeted. The SP courses just look so beautiful...just wait till you see Niagra Falls, the midwest desert and the Milky Way stages. I was pretty bummed that they never made it into the XBox version, particularly when I felt the game needed a second map to make it a top notch game. Better late then never I guess, heh.

Hopefully the mode to race all the courses in a row is maintained...except that route could now be doubled with the SP courses. :lol That'll be a wild ride.
