You don't sound like you want to help him but rather, make fun of him. If you're that embarrassed of him, why even be friends with him? Sever all contacts and that'd be the end of your problem. Since you don't have problem being mean to him online, why don't you be mean to him in RL by avoiding him and stop talking to him? That way he'd know he's not wanted in your life and at least you'll be honest to yourself and to him that you don't want him as a friend.

From this thread I get that you couldn't care less about your friend. You only wanted to make a freak show thread to gain attention. Instead of asking him about it you simply try to impress gaf with your macho style solutions to an issue that might not be an issue in the first place. He could always have one night stands without telling you or maybe he's sleeping with some of his male friends. Unless you've been watching him 24/7 for the last 15 years then don't see why you are so sure. Either case, if he doesn't talk to you about it then it seems he doesn't want help from you or doesn't trust you about it. Deal with it.
I LOL'd. OP doesn't seem to grasp the idea that being friends mean knowing your friend's flaws yet you can live with it and love them for what they are.
If you can't deal with his flaws then talk to him about it and if he doesn't change then maybe you're not that compatible with him since you can't lower your expectations and he can't live up to your expectation. In that case severing ties would have been preferable than pretending that you are friends with someone you don't want to be with. It'd also help the guy to move on and find friends that are better suited for him.

In so much as it seems a lot of posters were equating his friend with being sub-human garbage for "Being a virgin at 30" or "living with his parents at 30" and implying that he's "damaged" and needs to be "fixed" because of what he likes and enjoys. "Oh no! He draws anime! The horror! Best lock him up because he's clearly a lost cause!"
This being separate from the fact that I think a lot of manga artists probably do need to be locked up
It's especially frustrating because it's "acceptable" when people talk and participate in sports to the point where it is pretty much like a religion, and that's acceptable. But if a guy is that way with videogames or anime, keep away!

How does this happen? I just don't understand. People way into their 20s/30s and are still virgins. I understand the lack of social skills but I always thought the need for sex would make people overcome this. And even if that isn't possible, I can't understand why they just don't pay for it. These must be some of the most stressed out guys.

Probably because they base their whole level of self-respect on how much they're getting laid. If they aren't, then they have nothing to fall back on. It's a common high school mentality that some people never grow out of.
I'm 22 and I mainly just don't give a fuck. I'm pretty much normal but I hate going to clubs or drinking. I just do my own thing. Never really went looking to get laid and so never really happened.
I have a friend like this, except he makes 100K a year, drives a BMW, and spends all his money on clothes and guns. He tries with women but doesn't really get very far. A few personality issues, can be kind of a dick sometimes, but basically a decent person. But other than that, there's no real excuse. He'd never go with a hooker or anything like that, has really high standards, wants to get married, but his parental situation was nuts so he's got no help there. I guess in instances like that you really can only count on your friends. OP, give him a break, have a little sympathy for the lost, and try to help him out of the dark. Also he needs to come back to earth too, he's been out there in toyland, being master of his domain. Don't give up on your fellow man, but just realize the longer you leave it, the worse it gets.
And I should probably eventually maybe start being a better friend too.
Re: how it happens? I guess they wait around for love stories or something to happen. Most people don't realize how much of socializing is really kind of predatory. Sure it's all wide eyes and smiles, but nerves are there for a reason and some people never get past the nerves. Some people don't hunt well, don't like putting themselves at risk, don't meet people well, don't know how to size up people for receptiveness, don't like rejection etc. It happens, and unless they meet someone by chance or a woman is forward herself, or you never put yourself in the situation for those things to happen, you just might be a 30 yr old virgin.
