Update: Apparently an hour ago she crashed for a long time (6 or 7 minutes). They almost called the time of death, but they got her stable again. And they are positive that they got all of the tumor out, and her brain is "in good shape." We won't know for sure how she is until she comes to later on, or if she suffered any heart damage due to the cardiac arrests, but things seem to be looking good for the most part.

oh damn..scary stuff. :/ keep fighting! hopefully the worst is behind now, good luck with what remains of the surgery.

My wife had a cancerous tumour removed from the anterior portion of her left frontal lobe in late Frebruary.

I believe it was an 8 hour procedure, a few hours of which she was awake for.

I have a fairly good background in oncology and neurology, so if you have any questions at all fee free to shoot me an email.

Has follow up treatment been discussed yet? While radiation is a common post-operative treatment for brain tumours, her age may push the oncologist to consider chemo treatments instead. A combination of both radiation and chemo therapy may be an option as well.

I currently live in Canada, so the chemo of choice right now is typically TMZ (temozolomide). From what I understand, TMZ is still waiting for FDA approval in the US, so if you live in the states you may want to weigh your choices a little more carefully.

Anyways, best of luck. Be sure to take care of yourself as well, your girl friend will need the best support she can get and you'll be one of the best people to offer it.

Dude, I know it wont matter after another 3 pages of people saying the same but my family and I are praying and pulling for her

in my psychology class there was a study on how not only does the chemo lower the immune system, but it can get to the point where as soon as the patient enters the doctors office it starts to lower pre-chemo. the brain works in mysterious ways.

point is, constantly give her and make sure she has positive energy and thought. :] it already appears that her body is a fighter.

Please hang on with her at all moments, she needs it. God bless you, and your family. I wish you the very best.

Nice to see GAF come together in a thread like this, my thoughts go out to you and everyone involved.

Hopefully everything will work out great. Keep us all posted.

Your girlfriend is one hell of a fighter. Don't lose your head, man. This has to be a crazy time for you. I couldn't possibly imagine what it would be like if someone I loved was going through something like this.

As scary as that may have been, it sounds like the worst is behind now. I really hope all goes well for her at the end.

Update: Great news, it's done and over with. She's in recovery right now, and she should be waking up in the next couple of hours! Regarding any more heart complications, the doctors said she should be fine, but they will be monitoring her closely. She will still be at risk for the next 24 hours but he doesn't anticipate anything going wrong. Hopefully this ordeal is almost over.

That is great news! Congrats!

Congrats! Been watching this thread for a while, hoping for the best and I"m really glad everything turned out well.

My thoughts and prayers go out to her and you, it's great to hear that the surgery was successful, here's to a speedy recovery.

Congrats, now get her some giant stuffed animal, some flowers, a handmade card, a sweet kiss on the cheek and tell her you're glad she's ok.

Then show her this thread and let her know a throng of anonymous internet folks were/are pulling for her.

Again, congrats to you and yours.

Well put, it's nice that GAF could 'keep it in their pants' this thread and just realize that people are in need.

I'm glad she's doing better :-)

Oh, and get her chocolate ASAP!

Awesome! :D

I doubt they'd allow him to sit there next to her while they were operating, besides, who really wants to look inside their loved one's head?

I hope all goes well for you and your pretty lady. Don't worry, be happy!

Actually to hear my straight friends talk they'd LOVE to know exactly what was going on inside their girlfriend's heads.... (sorry, but so far the news is good so I feel I can joke)

Thanks again guys. She woke up and everything is normal. The doctors said it all went better than anticipated, so I'm a very happy and relieved man right now. She is going to have to be in the hospital for a few weeks, though. I'm wanting to buy her a DS Lite, or something. Her favorite color is green, and I haven't been keeping up with DS news lately; is there a green DS Lite released/plan to be released anytime soon?

Not sure...but my favorite color is green too :)

Tell her she kicks ass.

There is a lime green DS, not sure how available it is.

Anyway, great news!:D

Awesome news man, congrats to both of you!!! :D :D :D Please though, now that you know she's ok TRY to get some sleep please, you won't do her any good if you push yourself too hard worrying about her.

Also, let me just say, some of you have just awful awful choice in words:

Congrats, but she went into cardiac arrest so many times and it went better than anticipated? You sure the odds where not 30-70

I've learned this from experience...
Make sure you're by her side when she wakes up. It'll mean more than anything you could possibly buy her as a wake-up gift.

They aren't really sure why she went into cardiac arrest. The 70% estimate was regarding the risky nature of the brain surgery, with the possible result in brain damage/death due to removing the tumor. The cardiac arrest was definitely not anticipated, but they were referring to the outcome of the procedure regarding her brain function along with absence of the tumor.

Agree +500
I speak from the position of one who's done the waking up after something like that.
Be there.
