The reason I would vote yes ( and keep in mind I live in Toronto), would be because everyone deserves equal rights. I would also vote to change the term from Marriage to "partnership" as it pertains to the government. Marriage should be something that happens at a Church or your place of worship, and a Partnership should happen in the eyes of the government (so you can get your tax breaks or whatever benefits it may bring). The government gives certain incentives to married couples, so it does not make sense for gays to be disallowed this right.
That would mean government is meddling in religious affairs, which would have someone like Thomas Jefferson turning around in his grave.
If a Church refuses to give you a service, that is their right as a religious institution. However, in the eyes of the government everyone should be on equal footing.
Nick said:I'm a gay man living in America, in San Francisco. A lot of my friends are gay, and a lot of them are happily married, legally. When California ruled on May 15 that barring the word "marriage" from homosexual couples is unconstitutional, many of the people I know were finally, after years of devotion and commitment, were allowed to wed the one they love.
Kenny and Jimmy, a middle-aged couple who have been together for fifteen years, married last month in a private ceremony attended by only their closest friends. Roberto and Tom, together for twenty five years, marrying next Wednesday. Jim and John, twenty years: marrying tomorrow. These couples are some of my friends, and they spend every waking moment together.
If Prop 8 passes on November 4th, I may not have the right to marry the person I love.
That is not right.
Please dig deep down inside of your soul and think about what you're doing before you vote "Yes" on Prop 8. Do you have any idea what "love" is? It's a feeling. You can't explain it, it just is. We ALL know that. Who do you love? For what reasons? Does this person make you feel special? Why?
Please vote "No" on Prop 8, GAF. I beg you.

I literally thought this was sarcastic. *sigh*Tideas said:the argument would go, you can't choose your sex or your ethnicity, or the color of your skin.
But you can choose your sexual orientation.
Besides, like someone mentioned above, Prop 8 doesn't take away the rights to love someone.

Why do you "just think" this? Give an in depth logical reason that you want to help a huge population from being connected through marriage. Why is that something to be proud of?salva said:Well religious reasons? not really
I just think, just like castle007 said, marriage should be between a man and a woman.

Let's take you at your word then.laserbeam said:marriage is a basic human right? Well okay then yes I am Proud of it.
Marriage is a religious institution. Civil Unions and Justice of the Peace Weddings are just that Government institutions. And I will be vting yes on Prop 102 in AZ to amend the State Constitution.
1) This is not true . . . why would this be an issue if everything was exactly the same?AtticusFinch said:False. Proposition 8 does not take away any of the rights of gay couples under domestic partnership laws. Hospital visitation rights, legal benefits, you name it, are all protected equally by law, regardless of race, creed, or orientation.

Dude...AtticusFinch said:I know. That is what makes your "no switching between straight, gay, and bi" argument so ridiculous. You claim you can't switch between them, but (excuse me for what you may call my Christian, narrow-minded, bigot mentality) isn't being bi-sexual switching back and forth between your sexual preference? It just seems like an "a-la-carte" sort of mentality to me.
Your logic fails . . . You seem to be saying that a Justice of the Peace Wedding is not getting married. It is. FAIL.laserbeam said:marriage is a basic human right? Well okay then yes I am Proud of it.

Agreed.Crayon Shinchan said:What government needs to do is remove marriage as a legal term altogether.
You can only get civil unions through the government. Marriage will simply be a colloquial term, with ceremonies performed by your religion of choice (or not religion... whatever).
In otherwords, if gays don't get to use the term in a legally defined manner, then no one else should.
