I'm new to Neogaf, and I lurk around Off-topic and I seem to see your posts pop up from time to time, and it never fails to make me feel uncomfortable, you say some pretty odd stuff...even in neogaf man.

I say this in a nice way, Take a breather from Gaf for a bit, take a walk, get some air, listen to some stevie wonder, have fun man. Life aint all about looking at a computer screen, it seems that way when that's all you look at every day.

This is Eggman.

Don't you go fucking around with a good thing.

Edit:

I love my job, I work 15-18 hours a day all day long with barely any breaks, and always constantly on my feet, Couldn't be happier.

I don't know man.. I've seen some pretty crazy shit on this here internet and Dr. Eggman's posts don't even begin to scratch the surface on making me feel uncomfortable.

Edit: I have the same type of non rewarding job experience as you OP. In some ways worse because not only do I just sit and browse the internet all day I also have nobody to talk to except my dog. Boring, yea I know that feel bro.

I know, but im concerned, that post he made in this thread made it seem like the guy aint in a happy place, I want him to be happy.

I'm currently on an engineering co-op, I was here last year for 8 months and everything was pretty good other than about six weeks where our job was kinda shut down. I came back here because it was easier to get a job I knew I could go to than search for another while still going to classes and writing exams.

I have been here for a little over a month now and in the last two weeks I have probably spent over 90% of my time at work on Neogaf and a few other sites. The work load is pretty low right now for everyone here on location but they seem to be accomplishing something except for me. I wish I could request to work on something my own, but I don't have the experience or the knowledge to work on something on my own, and we only have one engineer on site so I couldn't really be supervised properly to work on a project.

I don't know why I'm making this, since I have kinda reasoned myself out of doing anything but I have had a few beer and these couple paragraphs have been sitting on my mind for a few days.

Maybe others can discuss downtime at co-op/internships or even during your careers and how you handle it.

Hahahaha all engineering coops are boring as fuck. Get used to it, you're useless until you are a professional engineer. Where are you working?

I know some dude who's designing pipelines as his co-op job and he gets bored so he goes on reddit. One day, somebody remote desktops him and opens up a notepad and tells him to get back to work.

I work with AMEC but if someone wants to figure out where they will have to go through past posts of mine.

Which office of AMEC are you in right now? Do you happen to be in Vancouver?

I only say that because your co-op terms seems a lot like UBC's co-op schedule.

I'm guessing in Alberta or something stupid.

Anyways. Just be sure that you record everything you do for your resume. Engineering coop jobs are all about finding out what you don't want to do.

The past few days at work have been a bit like that for me... I've just been messing around on youtube watching machining videos and stuff haha

Can't even watch videos on the clients computers, sucks a lot. Luckily I found a work around so that I could get through their 60 min of quota time in 10 min sections so that I can go where ever I want except for videos.

My job used to be boring too. I would do take-offs (budgeting and and such) for contruction plans. Once the economy went down people weren't building as much so there wasn't much to do.

I used my time to do homework, browse forums and learn new things.

I spent a TON of time on wiki and howstuffworks.com. It was boring, but I know a lot more things now than before because of it.

Watch 7 axis mills. They're fun
Wow it's like a lathe and a mill all in one. I'm always a bit amazed at how they can do everything at such high speeds. I only have experience manual machining and sometimes, it is a drag.

Well you do work for a large company, so I'm not surprised there are site restrictions.

All I'm doing right now is finishing up the drawings on my design, then firing up the waterjet. So in the meantime, it's just sitting around til the equipment is ready for us to use.

Fabtrol MRP

I am a night shift dispatch manager. We work twelve hour shifts.
I like the job because it usually stays pretty busy. i am constantly coming up with solutions to problems and making sure every load gets run. It keeps you pretty occupied all night, and the few breaks you do have, you tend to really enjoy.
I know its only a short matter of time before the phone rings again and i have another problem to solve. It can be very stressful with so much going on at once, but this job is never ever boring!

that's good. My job is hard, long and stressful (Management consulting) or focused, challenging and demanding as they put it on brochures :P

Just let your boss or supervisor know that you are bored and as a result are spending most of your time at work browsing the web and posting on NeoGAF. He/she will probably help you figure out a solution.

Yeah, the solution will probably be to fire you.

Good luck with that.

Go study something? I'm a software developer but I study Android on my free time, even if it has nothing to do with my work. I learned a lot more than that compared to my actual work.

I get a LOT of free time. There was one day where I was one of the few ones left at the office. I already finished my work way ahead of schedule so I just played D3 and LoL the whole day.

December is always a downtime for us so people bring consoles too.

Not really complaining. It's what I expected and I love it, since the pay is really nice too. I'm not saying we don't get crunch times though. There was a month when I went left the office at 6am a few times.

do you guys think this job sounds boring?

Salary: 0 - 48,000

Job Description: SOLID, STABLE, FAMILY ORIENTED company looking for a Data Specialist. UNBELIEVABLE BENEFITS AND COMPANY PERKS!!! Must be solid in Access and Excel. Crucial information being disseminated to their clients and strong attention to detail is a must.

i have no college degree keep in mind

Iam a systems administrator in a big company in Germany and my department has a low workload at the moment (since January). Basicly im sitting around and read neogaf / watch youtube all day.

This is typical in any professional job. There's downtime, projects that are trivial for you to complete, etc. Best thing is to enjoy it and also get some reading material to advance your knowledge.

However interesting gaf can seem to be, looking at it for over 10 hours a day 6 days a week can get quite boring.

Try doing it for 12 hours a day 7 days a week. It's the perfect opportunity to create your forum shtick and become e-famous!

This thread makes me feel bad cos I study engineering and it's still boring as fuck, doesn't sound like it gets any better :(

Find new things to learn in your free time!
This is your opportunity to develop yourself and build new and exciting opportunities.

This.

If you don't know how to use all that extra time, you should start reading the Dilbert books.
They're not just entertaining, but full of great ideas.

examples:
- exploring digital art
- writing a novel
- starting a business
- playing cubicle tennis with your boss and some co-workers.
- start writing poems (in case fiction isn't your thing)
- troll the hell out of every forum known to man, like Eggman.

I'm in engineering and wasn't able to get an internship/co-op and I'm going in to my senior year. Now i'm going to be in a shitty position when I graduate and look for a job. So dont complain about getting paid to work =(

same here, engineering coop from uoft
finished major project, now, not doing much, i get smaller stuff here and there, so there's alot of websurfing time

I'm on the same exact boat as you are. I was even thinking of making a thread about.
You were couple of beers ahead of me, though.

My story is a little bit different. I'm not doing a co-op, rather i'm doing an internship which
I applied for in this company called Jacobs.
I'm a computer science major and for some reason they placed me at the surveying department.
They told me I'll be working on some sort of data base, which got me thrilled.
They asked me if I have ever worked with Auto CAD or GIS before, I told them no, but I'd be willing to learn.
Two weeks after the internship has started and no one even mentioned those programs.
And the data base thing, turned out to be just a bunch of big maps stored and all I had to
do is scan them and rename the files.
I do get paid, but its boring as fuck. I feel like I'm wasting my time here, especially since
I start working(browsing gaf) at 730 till 515.

Oh, well. I have six weeks left of this shit. At least I ll be getting some cash out of it.

That's one of the fun things about nursing. I deal with completely new people and situations every day and there is always something new to learn. I wish my current job wasn't quite so stressful but it definitely isn't boring.

For awhile its cool. But then it becomes "Is this all that I am going to accomplish in life? Am I really doing my long term career a service by working here?"

Pretty much. I have two fourms that I can browse and all media other than soundcloud is blocked so I essential get paid to listen to new music and read Gaf, It sounds fun but after while you are just F5ing or reading stuff that is of no real intrest.

To be fair its pretty much the only reason I clicked on this thread ;)
