My Kinect broke, and I miss the IR functionality. IR-cable an option?

So my Kinect broke yesterday, and I won`t be replacing it with a new one, as it is too expensive for my use. I didn`t use my Kinect much, but when I turn on my Xbox One, my TV won`t turn on simultaneously anymore. I guess this has to do with the Kinect`s IR-functionality? My 2 year old son think it`s so easy to just turn on the Xbox, and that`s it. Now he has to use the TV remote as well, and it`s too hard for him.

I read somewhere that you can use an IR-cable instead. Have anyone here done that? Can I place the IR where the Kinect used to be?

This is something that devices supporting HDMI CEC do anyways? My PS4 turns on the TV and switches to the appropriate HDMI input by itself, when i turn on the PS4.

What kind of TV do you have? (Samsung calls its implementation "Anynet+" for example, on Sony TVs it's called BRAVIA sync, etc.)

Search google or amazon for "ir extender xbox one"

Kinect used an IR blaster so it'd bounce IR around the room to hit your TV. The IR port on the Xbox is for the little IR wands (I assume they're standard). You stick those on or near the device you want to control because they have less range. Depending on your TV's IR sensor you might be able to hide the IR cable just behind the TV so its sending the signal under the TV, or you might be able to put it on the stand underneath and pointing up at the TV.

I don't think the original Xbox one supported HDMI-CEC. Don't know if they updated the firmware for that, or if the Xbox one S supports it?

Is this a new thing? My TV is fairly new (probably two years old) and doesn't do this? It was a fairly cheap one for the size we got though.

I've read that you can use an IR cable with the sensor placed over where the TV receives its IR signal I think. Also, check the nearest GameStop. I read yesterday that they have used Kinects for Xbox One for $9 in-store (not online though).

It`s a new Samsung. Oh, I didn`t know. I just noticed that my TV didn`t turn on anymore after the Kinect broke.

Huh. Guess I just got unlucky with my TV then. It's a really good TV apart from lacking this feature... Is it enabled by default usually?

I'd guess it depends on the TV, mine was - a Sony Bravia. Might be worth looking up your model and seeing if it supports HDMI SEC.

I don't think the original Xbox one supported HDMI-CEC. Don't know if they updated the firmware for that, or if the Xbox one S supports it?

Thanks, just ordered one of those.

woof, you're right, the Xbone doesn't support HDMI-CEC.
what a silly oversight.

So, sorry OP for getting your hopes up :(

I know, but Gamestop isn`t really an option in Norway. We have very few stores.

I don't know if it's ideal for you, but have you looked on finn.no?

I can see a few Xbox One Kinects on there ranging from about 300,00 kr (about £27) upwards...

Second hand obviously, but I'd consider that over buying brand new given the prices.

Holy shut they've dropped that much?

Last Black Friday it was on sale at Gamestop for $40 from the usual $60. I got it for $20 with an extra offer.

They'll be preowned.

CeX in the UK sells them for £22. They buy for a tenner so it's no longer really worth selling/trading in, IMO.

Mind you, most of the people who wanted to get rid would've done so long ago..

Neither the original Xbox One or the Xbox One S supports HDMI-CEC, but the S has a built-in IR blaster that works around that.
