i'm not a cat guy but isn't declawing really, really cruel?

Extremely. People do it because they're too lazy to train their pets from an early age or they're ignorant and believe it's like removing fingernails.

Get a spray bottle and spray it with water every time it tries to scratch you.

This doesn't always work. My cat will sit there and be sprayed and then start grooming herself. Of course my cat also plays catch so she's an oddball.

It's so cruel that professionnals sell their services for that and its perfectly legal and people buy that same service.

Maybe i'm just missing something or are you saying these professionnals are unaware of being cruel tyrants while the government and general population turn a blind eye?

Only if you think sawing off the bones in your digits is not cruel? You are aware bone is severed and permanently removed, which would be the human equivalent of chopping the ends of your fingers off just so you couldn't use your fingernails.

^Problem solved

Shouldn't you just get a floor mat? It's kinda bad to let them think it's ok to claw at vertical surfaces.

They probably are aware but don't care because it makes them money.

The government/general population doesn't really care about animal rights in general because they're viewed as "just animals", so it wouldn't surprise me if they turn a blind eye.

Yeah, my cat absolutely hates water so it worked well when mine was a kitten.

Maybe he'd respond if you made a loud, painful noise whenever he did it. Kittens learn not to do these things usually when playing with other kittens. If they go to hard with things, the other kitten will let out a loud noise and not play anymore. Emulate that behavior, basically. Make a loud, painful noise even when it's not actually that painful. He'll get the idea at some point.

i had a kitten that used to scratch me. then one day i jumped on his back while he was watching tv and choked him out till he passed (while telling him he was going to stop scratching me) out and gave him two black eyes while he was passed out.

didnt mess with me anymore

dont feed it pizza unless you fear for your life. its could potentially ruin your brotherhood forever

Replace water with some kind of lemon juice.
This works. I used Mike's Hard Lemonade on my cat and after a few dozen squirts he started wobbling around then vomited and passed out. No more scratches. I was going to have to clean up the vomit but my dog ate it. Symbiosis ftw.

He is baby! They grow so fast I would be completely shocked if continued outside 2011. The only way that would happen really is if someone reinforced that behavior teaching him human hands or body parts are toys. You can lightly do back of the neck pick up and say no louding or little water spray.

WHAT!! AND YOU HAVEN"T CALLED THE COPS?!!! What the hell is wrong with you. No one should put up with such abuse.

My cat also did this to me when she was young, fortunately that lasted just a couple of days, she find it boring very quickly...

Not the most realistic solution, but the easiest way for a kitten to learn that claws hurt is with another kitten.
Who will teach the second kitten though? You'll soon find yourself up to the ears in kittens. And still wouldn't have solved the issue!

I just scrach my cat back...she usually comes out of it best though

Still my cat like kicking the crap out of my shoe more than she ever did me

the only thing my cat did to hurt me as a kitten was jumping on my feet while i was sleeping. talk about rude and cute awakening with a 2 month kitten attached to your feet gnawing at em
Quoted for cuteness

My cat did that too, horrible way to wake up!

Sounds horrible, but I'm kind of glad our cats were already de-clawed before we got them. Our house and bodies would be scratched to shit if they had them.

Not sure if it was previous owners or the shelter themselves that did the de-clawing...

Goddamn it some people are just too clever. I wish I'd thought of that.

To be fair, when my gf and I adopted a kitten from an animal rescue organization we had the option of bringing it back and getting a refund on adoption fees. We didn't but shit some days I wish I had. Fucker wrecked my blinds and clawed my wall. Doesn't do it anymore though.

The problem is that your cat doesn't respect you. Beat it up you fucking pansy. Earn that respect.

Serious note: Spray it with water when it does it. Get it something it can scratch.

Unfortunately, cats scratch. Some worse than others.

There is an old Arab saying "If you don't want to get scratched, don't play with a cat".

My first cat did this. She pretty much grew out of it after a few years. She's still have relapses, where she'd grab my arm and start clawing and kicking with her hind feet.

However, none of my other cats do this. One them bites (which is worse), but the other two never scratch me unless they really really excited (playing and I rub their belly or something).

"Rent a Kitten"? Fuck that bullshit, man.
(: I was kidding. I thought it was a joke site.

Glad to hear he grew out of it. My kittens have damaged two phones already plus my laptop's AC adapter. I wouldn't think of giving them back, ever. I'm trying the water spray, putting some cologne in the things I don't want them to mess with (since they don't like the smell of perfume) and blowing in their face. But they still go back and do it when I'm not around.

My kitten has been occasionally peeing my bed at night. She is also around 9 weeks old. I've had her for a week, and she's done it three times. She's otherwise litter trained; she's gone in the box every single time except the three "accidents" in my bed. I've locked her out of my bedroom for the past three nights, and I was going to let her sleep in there again tonight. If that doesn't work, does anyone have any other suggestions?

To the OP: clip her nails. Just learn how to do it properly so you don't hurt her.

Don't have a spray bottle handy? Use the aircans for cleaning computer keyboards. The sound makes them so wary they'll back off if you just hold the can once they realize what it does.

After he was neutered he toned down a bit, he's a very playful cat. But we never leave things like headphones lying around because those get chewed up. Plus Wii sensor bar cords. He chewed up a speaker wire and I finally had enough so I made him sniff some orange peels. Hasn't done it since.

I got a kitten a few weeks ago. He is prob about 2 months old and adorable but he constantly claws my feet and hands. As i type this right now he is clawing my feet and it hurts. I pick him up and move him but he goes right back. I dont want to declaw him but i dont know if i can handle this much longer. Do kittens typically out grow this? Also, i got him some toys and a scratch post but he would rather claws me
Do you play with it with your bare hands or do you use toys?

Don't declaw! :(

- Don't use your hands or feet to play with him, ever.

- Yell NO or make it sound like you're hurt very badly right when he puts his teeth and claws out. Yeah you will sound stupid, but who cares. If you do it right, it should make him suddenly stop.

- Quickly direct his attention to something else (like a toy or scratching post).

- Keep a spray bottle on hand for whenever he gets too fiesty. If that doesn't work, a mix of citrus + water might (cats seem to hate citrus smelling stuff).

- Learn to clip the claws at an early age. If you handle their paws a lot, they will let you do this without much fuss when they're older.

Google how to do it properly. You just clip the white tip off. Leave the pink/darker color alone. Don't screw it up, because you will make them end up dreading it (and they won't let you do it anymore).

Don't de-claw. That's stupid, cruel, and expensive.

You could certain clip the kitten's claws, if you want to. Ordinary nail clippers work fine. Don't clip too short, or they'll bleed. Clipping is a two-man job, BTW.

But really, your kitten is just playing with you. Wrestling. Pretending that you are prey, and he is the fearsome predator. It's what they do. You might try a combination of playing with toys (the ol' feathers-on-a-stick toy is super popular), and scolding the kitten when he becomes too rough with a human. Just say, "No!", and hold them down by their scruff until they "surrender". He just needs to understand that it's okay to be rough with toys, but not with humans.

Kitten's are little idiots, so it may take a while to get the message.

This is all good advice. Now does anyone have good advice re: my kitten peeing my bed at night? I described it a bit a couple posts above.
