Well, looks like several/few/many of us are getting bad systems, I figured we could use a thread to congregate the bad PS4 posts together.

I think mine was on the rare side, I got a RLoD from overheating because the fan never turned on.

Was able to get a refund at Best Buy, but everywhere is sold out, so I basically froze outside for 6 hours for nothing. Never even put a game in it.

Feel free to post your sadness here with me, GAF.

Looks like Sony's copying the 360 playbook to the tee that includes manufacturing faulty systems as well. Hopefully this doesn't become as rampant as the rrod

Is this common and how do you prevent this? My brother ordered a PS4 but it hasn't been delivered yet. I'd like to be able to warn him.

Uh every single release of hardware will have some faults
its not exclusive to MS/Sony/video game consoles

That is crazy that this is happening to people. Even if you went through Sony you would have to wait for a repair box and send it out. Hopefully Best Buy gets new stock in for you.

how long was the ps4 for on with out the fan before it burned out?
The fan never kicked on from the first boot, I was pretty sure I was fucked as soon as i heard, or rather, didn't hear it.

Reset downloading firmware, reset in safe mode. I let it sit overnight and I was able to get through the 1.50 USB update eventually, but it crashed within minutes regardless with the red light every time.

Well I don't believe mine is dead but it might as well be. I turn it on and I get nothing but a black screen. It looks and sounds like it's running normally but it just seems to have some kinda display problem. Tried different cables, ports,TVs but no go.

That sucks

My PS4 just randomly crashed and turned off during Killzone this morning, my heart skipped a beat when it happened :/

Thankfully it's been trucking along like trooper since then.

From what I understand...

Don't use the included HDMI cable if you don't have to.
Install OS upgrade first via USB. (Don't have games trying to install when you install the upgrade online)

Those are the only things that seem to be a potential pattern. :-/

/hugs to all

(I'll be playing mine tonight, wish me luck)

In all seriousness, sorry to hear it op. I hope you get a replacement soon and game on.

Actually it's just the law of averages (I hope). Make enough of anything and some will be defective.

Sorry for the OP because it sucks to know for sure that you specifically have become the statistical minority being crapped on with what is known as bad luck Hopefully you get a replacement super quick.

Are the HDMI cables faulty or something? Anyway, I'm heading to my brothers house later today so I'll take this advice when setting it up.

I know I could've sent if in, but fuck that when you can get a refund. I'll be able to find one somewhere (hopefully) faster than it would take to get a replacement.

I think we need a thread for all the people with functioning PS4s for perspective.

No offense to the OP, that indeed sucks.

Other than the HDMI port issues, which I've 99% sure is user error, all the failures seem to be caused by different things. Which is totally expected for a mass produced electronic device where most of it's components were sourced from the cheapest possible supplier. Some fans will fail, capacitors will burn out, hard drives will die, but as long as there isn't some design flaw that effects 100% of the consoles, that's all within expectations.
