That would irk me a bit too to be honest, often times the sauces are what makes the meal taste good.

But I certainly wouldn't demand someone come back just to deliver me a ranch packet. That's a bit much.

I agree. It was a little bit of an arsehole thing to do on my part, but all I did was answer phones and count money. My job was tiny shit though, so it's not like I could force the driver to do anything. I wanted to ask the lady why she didn't have ranch in her fridge. For shame woman, I don't think I know anyone who doesn't have a bottle of ranch or blu-cheese in their cooler.

I agree with the OP not wanting to pay .50 or more for a paper cup...most places I go to when you ask for water give you this little cheaper cup.

I'd be willing to pay $.10 for the cup, not more (cause they cost about $.02 each)...they just want you to buy soda because its their highest profit margin product...well, I guess $.50 water is now too.

water: not free
cup: not free
water for ice: not free
electricity & equipment to make ice cubes: not free
personnel to fill a cup with water and ice cubes: not free
+
more people trying to live healthy
+
summer time (more water needed, less available)
+
economy / crisis

I'd charge for it too.

in a sense, yes.

they dont wanna give you a free cup of water so that you cant go and fill it up with soda instead.

Taco Bell.. seriously? Del Taco is where its at:D
Del Taco is indeed far superior. However since the op mentioned I-95, I'm going to assume he lives on the east coast. We don't have Del Taco here. :(

Uh..water isn't free. Businesses don't magically get water free. It's the same water they use to mix with the little bit of soda syrup to make your soda so why be so upset about it. People pay $1 or more for what is close to tap water bottled so whats the difference.

This happens almost every summer in San Antonio, TX due to low aquifer levels. But nearly all restaurants charge usually 25 or 50 cents.

they probably got sick of homeless people coming in and asking for water and using the restroom. The area I used to work at had tons of homeless people and all the major business (Starbucks, subway, quiznos) charged for water and also locked their bathrooms.
im working in an exact environment u just mention, we lock the washroom, but we dont charge for water :D

I have heard about this for awhile... but it's very very unpopular and has come and gone. As I understood it from their point of view, you are not being charged for the water per say, but for they are providing you with a cup to put it in. If you had your own receptacle to put the water in, it wouldn't make a difference and wouldn't charge I'm sure, hell go yourself to the washroom and fill up with that magnificent tap water.

I wonder if since they are charging 50 cents now if they of least give you a normal size cup instead of the tiny free water cup that some fast food places give? Would suck to pay 50 cents and get a little mini cup of water.

I don't think they are charging you for "water" but for the cups :D

and who the hell goes to TB after the gym :lol

you wasted an workout.

OP got shat on.

While it is fairly ridiculous about charging .50 cents for the cup, you did act like a big dick to the employee and, well, to your friends. Why ruin their meals in favor of a measly 50 cents?

Hopefully next time you go there and the employee recognizes you, he flips a booger in your taco.

You guys are nuts, Taco Bell is awesome after a workout. Although I prefer just the chicken burrito. Nachos seems a bit excessive.

Maybe the OP wants to get bigger, stronger, faster, increase his metabolic conditioning, or improve his endurance. Hard training requires large amounts of calories.

If he's trying to bulk up/build muscle/doing anything other than cardio, then he didn't waste a workout at all.

I can only assume none of you have ever worked out?

Good, someone else who actually get it.

How about clean, healthy calories?

OP, is Docpan your workout buddy?

That's all fine, but to claim that a workout is "wasted" because of what someone chooses to eat afterward is just ignorant.

I'm sure the wasted comment was directed at someone else since I never mentioned it.

The OP refers to this taco bell run as "tradition" so it seems like something they do after every session.

Sure, the workout isn't wasted, but it's not the smartest thing either.

I actually had to argue with my friends (who were the ones who work out with my also) about the idea of eating Taco Bell after working out. I mostly do weight-lifting at the gym while I do cardio at home or at the pool, so "negating" the effects of my work-out isn't really a problem in my eyes, seeing as I should be looking for proteins and fats for muscle growth anyways. Sure, there are better options, but I'm not really worried about becoming obese right now.

I would have just taken it out of my order.

I actually thought about that episode after I did this. Even if the "manager" or some higher up heard about what I did, that would just be one lost customer in a sea of cheap-ass Tex-Mex fiends.

Also thread-backfire.

Meh. I was expecting people to be antagonistic to the idea (which my friends were, actually). I just wanted to get the message out and tell my story before more innocents are lost in the fast-food water struggle.

You know how hard it is to get 4,000 "clean, healthy calories" a day? I do, and I've come to realize it's not worth the 2% lower body fat.

First: Pay for the water. It did cost the business money, ice cubes don't stay cold magically man. Second: While slightly unconventional, there's really nothing wrong with Taco Bell after the gym. Shit, you know people eat twice to three times as much in one sitting as he was going to with a extra large soda and never see a gym. Third: Don't do that shit to employee's again.

Subway charged me 15 cents for a cup of water just a few days ago. i was kind of surprised, but i didn't say "you just lost a customer!" and bolt out of the store. maybe next time.

Depending on what you do in the gym espically if you lift a lot of weights you can pretty much have whatever you want to eat in moderation.

Secondly, :lol dude learn to just take stuff in stride I espcially like how you just drove off and yelled like you showed him something, do you think the guy/Taco Bell really cares that they lost a customer who shops their dollar menu?

I remember when I worked retail and people who tell me stuff like well I'm going to a different store...like I gave a fuck? :lol

Also I think it's a bit asinine to charge for water myself,.

Taco Bell is a joke, I worked there for a year during high school. I even worked in a downtown area where there were a ton of bums everyday. We never charged for water because that's a joke to charge for.

Selling soda is a huge profit actually, shit cost something like 1cent per gallon. It's so cheap you get to drink as much of it as you want all day. The only thing they harp on is cheese and meat. The managers hated it when you put more cheese on a meal than was supposed to be put on.

The thing I hate about fast food restaurants is that they charge extra if you want to add something to your sandwich or nachos or whatever. But when you ask for no tomatoes or no beans on something the hamburger or burrito doesn't go down in price.

Go to Taco Bell and order one of their value meals with no drink and if it isn't about 1.50 in cost they just charged you for a drink or tried to charge you individually.

In AZ it is against the law for a retail establishemnt that has (tap) water available to deny water to anyone who asks for it. There is the caveat that they could charge you for the cup, but that has never ever happened to me yet. I mean why piss of a customer for the cost of a cup when he/she may come back and actually buy stuff due to the hospitality.
Some restaurants have water fountains now, and I guess that allows them to charge for a water cup without running afoul of the law.

I bet you had a big adrenaline rush when you flew past him yelling and thought you really stuck it to the man. Way to go champ.

Do you know how many fucking muscles that guy had to use to get you that water? let's not even talk about neurons and shit firing. 50 cents was a steal.

I... yelled "You just lost a customer" at the drive-thru guy.

Sounds like Ronnie the Taco Bell clerk got severely owned by you. Especially since minimum wage went up and now he's making just enough to truly care.

If you think this is bad, just wait until they begin charging people for other containers(think to-go boxes and plates) and the use of silverware(both metal and plastic.) Good stuff.

I would stop eating there. But fast food is gross in the first place.

EDIT:

What, you think that fork is going to wash itself? For free?

Stuff like that is already included in the price.

Their reasoning is they're giving you the cup that you drink the tap water from, which is understandable. Now if they charged you for slurping from a hose out back behind the store, I would be angry too.

50 cents is too much for a cup, though.

This.

Pretty much everyone I've seen request a cup for water has turned around and used it for soda, maybe that's why? Also, driving that extra 2-3 miles probably cost more then the 50 cent water :lol

Ugh.

Let me get this straight.

You were in the drive-thru of Taco Bell. You ordered some food and most likely a very small glass of water that would have cost you 50 cents. You were going to take this food and most likely go home or to someone else's home where water should be coming out of a sink...

You couldn't just take the water off and get it at your place?

They're not going to care about losing 2 pennies worth of syrup. Ultimately, they would rather you buy a soda than drink water.

As for the OP, I guess it's the principle, not the cost. They're trying to make the healthy drink choice less financially beneficial, and that is pretty low. There are tons of health issues associated with drinking lots of soda.

This one Taco Bell where I went to college just stopped giving water cups out after 12:30 am because drunkards would come in and use the cups for soda.

Taco Bell after workouts would probably only help out if you were huge, trying to bulk up, and your metabolism needs > 4-5k calories per day. Their food is mostly flour, rice, and oil. Very little beef/protein.

So it would compliment good food if you need tons of calories. But even in that situation I'd recommend a couple of hamburger helpers. Cheaper, and 2 lbs of beef.
