My Taco Bell charges for water now...

They're not going to care about losing 2 pennies worth of syrup. Ultimately, they would rather you buy a soda than drink water.

As for the OP, I guess it's the principle, not the cost. They're trying to make the healthy drink choice less financially beneficial, and that is pretty low. There are tons of health issues associated with drinking lots of soda.

Charging for formerly free stuff tends to be the result of abuse from what I've seen, for example, my local Mc Donalds began to charge for BBQ Sauce because people would ask for a ridiculous amount of them.

Taco Bell after workouts would probably only help out if you were huge, trying to bulk up, and your metabolism needs > 4-5k calories per day. Their food is mostly flour, rice, and oil. Very little beef/protein.

So it would compliment good food if you need tons of calories. But even in that situation I'd recommend a couple of hamburger helpers. Cheaper, and 2 lbs of beef.

exactly some people here are stupid so they don't realise that people don't just go to the gym to lose weight, after football in highschool some of the rippest bigguest dudes would eat like 4 cheeseburgers from McDonalds after our practices.

I wouldn't use fast food to bulk up. I would rather take in cleaner products. Fuck that, I don't want heart disease ;_;

Why is it ridiculous?

Did he bring his own cup or bottle? If no, then he should expect to pay. Secondly, doing this will discourage cheap asses from always coming in and getting free water. If it were my restaurant, I would only offer bottled water.

You want to drink something healthy? That's fine-- expect to pay. In this case, he should have only been charged 10 or 15 cents.
Many places only charge for water (well, that little plastic cup that costs less than a penny) if you don't buy anything. If you purchase food, especially in those quantities and being he's a frequent customer, that water should have been free. Taco Bell is weird to begin with, although. One of the restaurants doesn't have the hot sauce out and will only give you a couple packs of hot sauce and not anymore. Good thing I find Taco Bell to be amongst the worst of the fast food places.

I guess everyone can just use recession as an excuse for this. :(

Pretty much everyone I've seen request a cup for water has turned around and used it for soda, maybe that's why?
It disgusts me how many people do that. Bunch of good-for-nothing cheap jerks

Ugh.

Let me get this straight.

You were in the drive-thru of Taco Bell. You ordered some food and most likely a very small glass of water that would have cost you 50 cents. You were going to take this food and most likely go home or to someone else's home where water should be coming out of a sink...

You couldn't just take the water off and get it at your place?
Yea I'm a bit confused here too.

To be fair, he was ordering through the drive-thru. Even if he was a frequent customer, how would they know it's him? No, scratch that. It's Taco Bell, why would minimum wage employees want to bother themselves with recognizing their customers?

If you order food, a water cup should be free. If you're a bum coming in for nothing but water, to probably just put soda in it anyway, $.50 sounds fair.

Charging for water does suck, but there's no reason to let that employee know how you feel. He will not report to any upper level management, and you just made his job easier. In the end, you and your friends left hungry and that employee didn't have to make any food.

If he's trying to bulk up/build muscle/doing anything other than cardio, then he didn't waste a workout at all.

I can only assume none of you have ever worked out?

Good, someone else who actually get it.

oh I work out often but that doesn't mean eat some shitty as food to make up for the calories needed.

Taco Bell is not fucking Denny's or Applebees, it's fast food. I'm surprised they even gave you water and I'm not surprised at all they charged you. They had to give you a cup.

everybody has been charging for water around here. i assumed thats how it was everywhere. my buddy always poors soda anyways its fuckin funny. wtf are they gonna do

You're an asshole, OP. Yelling at the employee won't do anything but make them feel like shit. They probably already hate their fucking job, and you just needed to make them feel worse over something they clearly have so much control over.

It's ridiculous they charge for water, but talk to a manager about it. Typical fast food workers don't get paid enough to help people like you.

As I'm sure people have said already [too lazy to check, forgive me], they don't charge you for the drink. They charge you for the cup. This is why its usually the store's choice to allow free refills and not a general rule across franchises. Yes, 12 oz. cup for 50 cents seems a little much. But honestly, if you're cool with tap water, why not bring a water bottle to the gym and fill it up on the way out?

At Yo! Sushi they charge you £1 for a glass of water - and they have a VERY limited selection of other drinks, so clearly they're making a lot of their money on the water which is practically free for them but brings in a £1 per customer, say they get 200 people to eat there in a day - that's £200.

I only accept it because not many places in England do fresh sushi, and Yo! is by far the most prominent in most cities.

Fast food places have been charging for water since the late nineties. At least in Texas anyway. Usually 25 cents unless the cashier feels like being nice and just giving you a cup.

So I just got back from the gym with my friends: a tradition that usually ends in us getting a few cheap food stuffs from Taco Bell. It being the mecha of late night offering the cheapest (and pretty damn tasty) stuff this side of I-95 (Denny's is on the other side), we were all eagerly awaiting the impending deliciousness. Low and behold, when I go to order a Triple Layer Nacho and 1/2 lbs. Bean and Rice burrito with a cup of water on the side, I was informed my order came to something around 2.50. Now I know the nachos cost 79 cents and the burrito costs 1.09 at our location, so the math clearly didn't add up. Upon further inquiry, I was informed that they were now charging 50 cents for water cups. That's right: Taco Bell feels they deserve 50 cents for a 12 oz. paper cup filled with tap water and a few ice cubes. Feeling disgusted, I immediately blurted out "Why?" when they informed me of the charge. The guy on the other end simply stated "Would you like anything else with that?" Feeling tired, agitated, and actually not extremely hungry, I sped through the drive-thru and yelled "You just lost a customer" at the drive-thru guy. I know he doesn't make the pricing decisions, but I just felt so frustrated. My friends were a little pissed about missing out on the Bell, but I felt that my principles would be violated if I bought food from a place that charges ANYTHING for water, let alone a half dollar. Next time I'm going to drive the extra 2-3 miles to another Taco Bell which hopefully doesn't charge me for freakin' tap water.

It's people like you who order a cup of water with a meal to thank for Taco bell charging for Water in the first place.

Do you think the cup that you get the water in is free?

Do you think the cups are just magically dropped off by the cup fairy? NO! All these fast food chains have to purchase these items to keep on hand (cups, sporks, lids, sauces, everything in general). So when someone like you comes in and tries to be cheap by ordering a cup of water with their meal it is costing fast food places money for handing out all these cups with water in it. So they got smart and started to charge people. Good for them.

Thread backfire!!!

My Taco Bell doesn't charge for water and I just use the cup to get Sierra Mist anyways...

And scumbags like this are why slowly more and more of them will charge for water.

The shit people will admit to on here never ceases to amaze me. You're proudly proclaiming that you're a god damn thief. As if this is some badge of honor.

Do you really want to drink a Mexican Fast Food place's water though? You know what they say about Mexico... don't drink the water down there. I'd apply the same thing to Taco Bell, personally.

Everyone else is doing it so I decided to join in:

You're a moron.

Thats exactly what I was thinking..... why eat fast fat food after working out.

I know many people who work out simply because it helps negate the effects of eating a less than stellar diet. This is not a problem. Better than eating it while playing WoW.

I know that whenever I go to KFC, I usually get their mashed potato bowl without the popcorn chicken and then I ask for extra cheese - they charge me for the extra cheese and keep it at full price (when the most expensive part of the meal was taken away).

Those styrofoam cups aren't free guys. And you shouldn't be a dick to fast food employees. I'm pretty sure he's gonna remember you the next time you go there. Don't be surprised if you find some extra sour cream in your burrito.

Gym then Tacobell? :lol

Cringe then laugh when I see stuff like this. I have no idea what you're goals are working out but have fun. While I am over here running on 70g of Carbs a day to get cut up after bulking during the winter/spring.

It is not fun either, I get pissed walking around seeing people drink soda and juice like its water. DO YOU KNOW WHAT ITS LIKE TO BE RESTRICTED TO 70g of CARBS!?!?!

Its Salmon Salmon Salmon, Chicken Chicken Chicken ( White meat which I hate ) and SALADS. :lol

Tacobell...Pfffff..... I envy you.

I’m continually stunned by the amount of people that take out their consumer entitlement rage (or in this case hissy fit) on the people who actually work there. You made their night when you drove off shouting. That’s one less burrito they’ll have to stuff, one less time asking if you’d “like any sauce with that” and so on. If only you could confirm with them that you’ll in fact never return, they’d hold that little slice of hope in their hearts that more would follow your lead.

I think it probably costs pretty close to the same amount that it costs the billion other places that give it to me for free.

Worry a bit less about being cut?

It's pretty ignorant for people to rip on what people eat in according to their workout. People have different bodies. Just cause you can't get away with eating Taco Bell after working out doesn't mean other people can't and still make progress with their bodies and workouts. Seriously some of you can't look past your own fucking narrow mindset.

Being able to make gains while eating Taco Bell doesn't mean it's not overprocessed crap.

; )

First I have to join everyone bashing you. Don't make taco bell a tradition after working out. The meat at Taco Bell is about the worst out there. Sure you want to eat a lot of calories, but it should be with healthy meat like chicken breasts or maybe some eggs. Also why are you getting done working out at 2:30 a.m.? Working out that late is not the best time for your body (unless you work 3-11 or something like that)

But I will agree with you charging for a water cup is the most insane thing ever. Don't listen to the people saying places like that have a right to charge for WATER. Also take this tip that I use all the time. Order your food and pay for it, and then after you have paid and gotten your change back, ask for a water cup. They will never charge you and just hand it over, works every time :D

I know it was wrong to yell at the employee like that, but once again it was at 2:30 AM and I was tired from the Gym. It's also not the cost that pisses me off the most; it's the principle of the thing. I am paying for other food, so I'm not some damn freeloader expecting free water. I've never ever been to a restaurant that charged you for water, let a lone a fast food place that prides itself on being damn cheap.

It's not bottled water. It's the shit that comes out of their taps when the press the little "Water" tab on the lemonade fountain. There is no realistic cost to them besides the cup and lid, which I will be 50 cents costs little more than 2 little brown pennies.

And yes, I feel like paying for unfiltered tap water violates my principles and that's why I exercised my rights as a consumer in a free-market capitalist system and decided not to buy anything from that establishment. Seems fair.

What person goes to the gym without their own bottle of water? And what person goes to Taco Bell after a workout??

How many times do we have to go over this. It's still better than the alternative which is not working out at all, also, lots of people work out so they can feel better eating some crap, and they want to enjoy life to a certain degree.
