my thread making privileges look sharper in 1080p

I don't need to watch a video to know that there is no valid point for rendering at 720p over 1080p unless the console can't handle it.

Edit: I'm an idiot. Quite funny actually.

720P isn't good. For some launch games sure. As a general theme for the console, no. 900P would be the acceptable minimum for me and I'd expect games launching in November 2014 to achieve this. If Halo 5 was 720P there would be some real problems.

Especially when you consider Kinect and how it practically forces you to take more distance from the screen.

now that's a plan I can believe that microsoft masterminds could have come up with..

"sub-rez? no shit! just have the kinect move the player 3 steps further away. problem solved."

:)

edit:
aaand I just saw the video. kudos dude! the "skype-with-dog-to-bond" thing, you are golden there :D

While I'm somewhat involved and this could be seen as self-promotion, I truly think this video makes a lot of great points that haven't been considered in the whole CoD Ghosts 720p on Xbox One debate: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Run8gMVYj2Y

yeaaaa, not really brrraaawww

EDIT: I'm sorry thought you were serious lol nice video

720p has no fucking place in the next generation of consoles. To even excuse it is absurd. When I'm laying down £350+ for a console I don't expect the standard of 8 year old consoles.

Ha. Finally watched the video. My point still stands though :P

Shit just got to the end of the vid with the skyping with the dog comment... impressive.

Deadpan too. GJ.

I can tell the difference while sitting a foot or two away from my computer screen.
Can i tell the difference on my 42 inch sitting 15 feet away?
I don't know.

It'll be bad if it stays the standard but at the beginning of the gen it's not the end of the world, I'm willing to be most homes with an HDTV probably don't have 1080p capable screens.

There is no way this is true, 1080p has been standard for TVs for many years now.

720p isn't a big deal to me. Framerate is.

Luckily, on PS4, you can get both - 1080p CoD AND 60 FPS!

If "next gen" consoles can't do 1080p and are only doing 720p which is what they are doing now, then they shouldn't be coming out in 2013.

I'd rather pay more money to get a 1080p machine or wait another year until technology gets cheaper or advances for them to reach the resolution. It feels like both systems are being rushed to the market without a compelling reason on why we need them right now.

As of right now, they are big upgrades on paper but when you see 720p being thrown around everywhere, you realize that maybe they just aren't as powerful as we think.

Ohhhh I see. 720p isn't worse than 1080p because it's a design decision.

In that case it's absolutely worth the hit in visual fidelity so that I can skype with the dog.

I don't get this at all... Sony developed a console that costs $399 at a good value... and somehow because some games can't run at 1080p for one reason or another, this whole console generation is ruined?

The alternative is a console that costs $600-750 and then people would be screaming, THAT'S TOO EXPENSIVE!!!

Where'd this unrealistic expectation of everything at 1080P/60FPS come from?

If it doesn't have one thousand and eighty pees, it can't conceivably be a fun game. #thisisneogaf

It does highlight how underpowered the Xbone is compared to the PS4. A higher rendering resolution is better, fun doesn't factor into this equation.

This is mainly about CoD 720p on Xbone vs. 1080p von PS4.
