It seems your uni is ranked pretty low on the list, but then again the list isn't a complete collection of all universities.

Liverpool Hope for example isn't on that list, even though it classes itself as a university. There's probably quite a few other places that aren't on the list either.

So I'd think of it more as your university looks one of the worst but was still good enough to make it onto the list.
The only positive thing about my uni in this thread.

cheers, I feel better now (for a while)

You think that's bad, I go to Lincoln. It's not awful (lol, it's OK), but it's not got the best reputation. Mainly thanks to The Inbetweeners.

dude WHAT. I might be off there next year. I always thought you were down south (no offense intended).

*Does google search*
My university is ranked 56 in the US. Although, we're ranked 11 in engineering, and 4th in my specific major. Pretty great I guess :)

I would just stick with it and get good grades if I were you. Unless the field you're going into really cares about where the degree is from.

I'm currently studying chemical engineering at London southbank(1st year) hoping to do really well so I can transfer to Manchester this September. It's not bad here but unfortunately the oil and gas industries only pick the redbrick students.

How does the transfer work? Do you talk to the course director of another Universty or what?

does it also depends on the grade?

Yeah I had to fill in a form explaining why I wanted to leave the course, then contact ucas as well as Manchester, Leeds and Nottingham where I want to go.

Those universities are also asking that I get a 2:1 in my first year before they consider me.

I remember looking at Liverpool Hope for some reason, aren't they a Christian University?
A Christian University in the UK... I never knew such a thing existed...

It's the university of Wolverhampton...
Totally off topic but you'll enjoy at least the societies at Wolvo uni. Massive anime society I saw when I looked around their open day.

Actually quite surprised my uni [Birmingham City] is number 5 in the list of media courses on the Guardian site

I don't think it matters that much, you should try and get work experience/internships, they probably help plug the gap.

My uni (York) is 9th in the UK and 88th in the world. But it's kinda flawed because it's got a terrible medical school attached, but an amazing Sociology/History department.

Mines ranked friendliest on myspace.. yes that's how low they go to advertise it. I suppose I chose the university as it's the only one in the UK with the course I wanted!

nope, Creative Computing at Goldsmiths. If I could go back and go to somewhere else I would but I'm there now and I'm enjoying it in some sense.

edit: Other thing about Goldsmiths is it's technically a University of London degree

It's best to check which area you want to study in before deciding which Uni you want to go to, there aren't any that excel in every department. My Uni is pretty low - in the lower 20, but I thought their computer science department was ok. I graduated last year, but finding work is hard and I need to put some money together for a new pc and 3D modelling software.

Goldsmith's advertise themselves as the friendliest? That's so stupid, they're a legit uni that are well known for being incredibly left wing, but really good.

Sorry might have given you the wrong impression by mistake, it wasn't advertised by Goldsmiths themselves but from a poll on myspace a few years back.
I didn't even know till I first joined and our lecturer told us about it as a joke. It is very left wing and alternative which I'm not sure if it suits my style but then like I said I am enjoying it and that's what counts.

Why the hell don't you go for an Aberdeen Uni if you want in the Oil and Gas Industry?

I go to Glasgow Uni.

77th best in the world and in place 50 - 100 for comp sci. Not bad. Especially with bonus free Scottish tuition fees.

/bragging.

I was one bloody grade off Glasgow, if only I'd worked. Still, happy enough at Queens'.

Cheaper fees would've been nice.

I went to Ulster graduated in 2008, had to get AAA to do law at Queens, got ABB. It's a shithole and it was around 75th. I can't imagine how bad the lower unis are.

I study Architectural Technology and I am an undergraduate (1st year). This university is supposed to be good at the build environment as it pride itself for being the 12th best university for graduate salaries. I think personally it is not as bad as media is making it, However, I really hate the social aspect of this university
I only have single friend from university, others are outside it
there are no activities and societies worth mentioning.

Its a tough balancing act, despite its reputation it must be doing something right if the graduates are getting such high salaries. On the other hand how much is that down to the uni? There may be other factors at play there.

I would say that if your not happy there its worth looking into your options, phoning other uni's and asking what the transference procedure to switch into the new uni is, do that asap.

You also have to consider the fact that fee's are going up, will you be forced to pay higher fee's if you transfer?

Also rather than just looking up overall University tables - look up tables which compares courses tough at different uni's - if you strongly committed to working in the field your studying and your uni is strong in that field employers will know that. If however your uni is weak even in your academic area then its worth bailing out. Also dont forget that you may not nessicarily work in the field your degree is in and you may have to deal with employers who just think you went to a crap uni despite the fact it might be good in your field.

League tables dont mean shit, it you get a good grade out of it you will get a good job eventually

Disagreed, if you go to a bad field and study in an area in which job prospects are bleak then your shooting yourself in the foot. A good grade will help, but your competing against people who would have got good grades from uni's with stronger reputations.

I transferred from a top tier university (university of toronto) to a crappier university (york university). And to be honest, my future prospects increased ten-fold cause of the change.

so... i guess it really depends on your situation. I'm doing a BSc so my post-undergraduate options all require continuing with school. seeing that professional programs tend to avoid making decisions based on where you did your undergraduate studies, GPA is pretty damn important.
