Microsoft's ROLLING THUNDER (more like LOLLING, lulz) kinda fell flat.

For example I think that they DO NOT push GTA4 360 as hard as they could be pushing it.

I though rolling thunder was only for 2006 up till ps3 launch. And it was a success? :scratches head.

just wait until after H3. i'll be very surprised if after 50 million $ they don't start advertising the hell out of this game, come this holiday season and i will be very surprised if it's DLC isn't the first to have tv commercials.

~~~~
on a side note, i kinda wish they wouldn't schedule all these smaller events. to some extent, its more fun when the companies drop several megatons at once at a few events throughout the year.
Events certainly bring attention to games.
I would think what Rockstar are doing with GTA and capcom doing with RE5 is better. Would RE5 have got such a big thread if it happened in the middle of E3? They could have released the full Trailer but didnt , they know more hype would happen at a normal day
This isn't actually as big a deal as it seems, unfortunately. The "private event" is just a new look at two U.S. games from Sony. Leipzig, however -- now that should bring some really new stuff.
Coming so close to Liepzig does anyone think this will be a dedicated showpiece event, like the Killzone 2 one for a single game from their first party?
Thanks Sam.
You're everywhere today. :P
Actually it works both ways. Events are like an appetizer to the full meal, working hand in hand to satisfy the masses, and leaving them fulfilled and ready for an afternoon nap.
Apparently no one listens to our podcast... :-P
Ah, so your podcast has something about this event?
I would love to listen any podcasts but I'm profoundly deaf :(
I dunno man, Sony really knew how to step on the knecks of MS and Nintendo while they were market leader. Year after year we an avalanche of great games and conventions to show them off although it does seem they've turned it up a notch since then. But I'm all for Sony getting their asses handed to them every other generation if this is what it gets us.:lol
But then, PS3 happened...
Edited.
Besides Sony in numbers having more exclusives this fall, they have a absolutely killer 08 lineup. In spring alone we will see Killzone 2, Metal Gear Solid 4 & LittleBigPlanet. All those three are serious hard hitters. For fall 08 they have their biggest game Gran Turismo 5 but they also have WipEout PS3, Socom 4, inFamous and whatever else their numerous studios bring forth. Not to mention White Knight and FFXIII.
list warzzzzzzzzzzzzzz. sigh.
The funny thing is, all of their products have been in development for quite a long time. They didn't just set up their internal studios once their sales were flagging; it's been in the plans. The first-party setup with less reliance on third-party etc. I'd say they've been working harder ever since their flagging, but all these events and announcements were in their long-term plans from the start.
This is the truth. They may be working harder, but these are long-term commitments that are at least planned out entirely at the beginning of tne fiscal year.
Game Informer interview with Phil Harrison on July 19th:
GI: Gran Turismo has bounced around quite a bit. GT HD was great, but it was the demo. Kazunori talked about all of these things they wanted to do originally with downloadable content, and that all got pretty much scrapped for GT5. When was it decided to release Prologue, which is a demo but more of an expanded demo?
Harrison: It’s not a demo, it’s a game. It’s a full game, and it’s got full features.
GI: Will it follow how GT4 Prologue was? Is that the game plan?
Harrison: We’re going to announce details on that in a couple of weeks. I’m not able to go into the specifics. Obviously, one of the metrics is, “How many cars, how many tracks?” I’m not able to share that with you today. But you saw from the quality of the visual fidelity – they are raising the bar up. The way that Polyphony makes their games is very data driven, meaning that when they get one car working on one track it’s database driven, and then voomp – a huge set of content follows. I was looking at that Ferrari 430, and every time we release a GT somebody says, “Oh, it’s photorealistic” Even back to the PlayStation 1 GT. But I think now, it is.
No big deal - all the parts I'm interested in are in the first half of each podcast anyway. I'm surprised people want to listen to a podcast for more than an hour though.
You forgot the awesomeness that was the Sony Japanese event a week after E3
But then games or news that should have received way more attention gets lost in with the megatons hogging up the attention. Just look at GAF during E3. There was so many threads it was hard to keep up with it all. For example many here didn't ever read about them having a Japanese event which was mentioned at E3 but it got lost in the shuffle.
I like these kind of events, because even if no major games get announced, a couple of new PSN titles always seem to come out of the woodwork.
As for MS, just because they aren't announcing new games every 5 minutes doesn't mean they haven't got a ton of games or exclusives to announce. I'm sure they're not taking a back seat, they know they have their work cut out for them. But you must remember than MS are a year ahead and as such have already announced some of their 08 games- Too Human, Alan Wake, Fable 2, Halo Wars, Kingdom Under Fire etc we already know about.
Sony do seem to have a lot more first party stuff in the works though.
There should be be mysterious events every 2 weeks to keep the fanbase excited and primed. I guess E3 was such a huge disappointment insofar as the expected comeback was concerned.
The Wii is doing fine without any mysterious events. However, it seems Sony's goal from all this is to win the Internet back over, and that's certainly working. Things PS3 related are far more positive these days.
