Mystery priest performs miracle at Missouri crash - then disappears!

I guess some were saying he was an angel

A 19-year-old woman was miraculously saved from a wrecked car on a Missouri highway — after a mystery priest suddenly appeared to pray with the victim and bless the rescue operation.
But once the woman was cut free, the holy man vanished from the cornfield-lined roadway.
“As a first responder, you don’t know what you’re going to run into,” New London Fire Chief Raymond Reed told KHQA-TV. “In this particular case, it is my feeling that it was nothing more than sheer faith and nothing short of a miracle.”
Katie Lentz, 19, was trapped in her mangled Mercedes-Benz for nearly an hour when she asked to pray and a mystery priest suddenly appeared.

Firefighters had been struggling for nearly an hour to get the teen, Katie Lentz, out of her crumpled Mercedes-Benz after a drunken driver crossed the middle line of the two-lane highway and struck her head-on about 9 a.m. Sunday, officials told the news station.

The smoke-eaters desperately tried to reach Lentz — who was pinned between her seat and the steering wheel — but the heavy steel of the car kept dulling the blades of their cutting tools, Reed said.
Emergency workers struggled to free Lenz, but the Mercedes' metal frame kept dulling their tools.

“It was a very well-built car,” Reed said. “And when you compact materials like that one, they become even stronger because you’re cutting through multiple things instead of one layer.”
Medical workers had just warned the crew that Lentz’s condition was failing fast, when the teen asked if everyone nearby would pray out loud with her.
Suddenly, a man clad in black with a white collar appeared at the scene.

“He came up and approached the patient, and offered a prayer,” Reed said. “It was a Catholic priest who had anointing oil with him. A sense of calmness came over her, and it did us as well.”
Reed said he couldn’t make out everything that was said between the injured woman and the priest.
The teen suffered several broken bones from the wreck — caused by a drunken driver who slammed into her car head-on — and was upgraded to serious condition after undergoing surgeries at a local hospital.

“But myself and another firefighter, we very plainly heard that we should remain calm, that our tools would now work and that we would get her out of that vehicle,” he said.
As soon as the blessing was given firefighters with the Hannibal Fire Department arrived with fresh tools, which were able to extricate Lentz from the mangled car.

Emergency workers couldn’t find the priest — or any other bystander — anywhere near the cornfield-lined roadway after the teen was pulled from her wrecked car.

The injured teen was air lifted from the scene and taken to Blessing Hospital, where condition was later upgraded to serious after undergoing several surgeries.
“Both of her legs are very damaged,” Lentz’s friend, Amanda Wiseman, told KHQA—TV. “Her wrist is broken, several broken ribs, so she’s had a lot of broken bones to deal with.”
Once Lentz was safely aboard the helicopter, the fatigued emergency workers turned to thank the priest — but the man had vanished from the scene.
Lentz was airlifted to Blessing Hospital, where she was upgraded to serious condition after undergoing a series of surgeries.

Not a single bystander or civilian vehicle was on the Center, Mo., thoroughfare, a quarter-mile of which had been closed for first responders to work after the wreck.

“Where did this guy come from?” asked another Lentz pal, Travis Wiseman. “We’re looking for the priest and so far, no one has seen him. Whether it was a priest as an angel or an actual angel, he was an angel to all those and to Katie.”
'In this particular case, it was nothing more than sheer faith and nothing short of a miracle,' said New London Fire Chief Raymond Reed, one of the first responders who rescued the teen after a blessing from the mystery priest.

Police later arrested Aaron Smith, 26, who was booked on a string of charges that include DWI, assault and failure to drive on the right half of the roadway.
The injured teen’s mother told the news station that her daughter has always turned to prayer when facing possible defeat.
“All along the way, her foremost request is for people to pray and to pray out loud,” she said. “We would like nothing more than to carry that message forward for her."

Also apparently there were multiple photographs taken at the scene while this was happening, and the priest does not show up ina ny of them, according to another article. What say you Gaf, miracle or really bizarre coincidence?

Maybe he just drove or walked off? Pretty easy to lose track of someone in a scene of chaos. It was very nice of him to do what he did though, clearly he comforted the woman quite a lot and calmed her down, which is crucial with serious injuries. Hell I would appreciate that from a priest even though I'm not religious.

Do not worry, a story like this cant stand in the way of the observable universe. Those that were in there to experience "most likely were in shock/tired/mass hallucinated", and repeat this long enough, and there will be no way to tell whether it was true in the first place or not. After that, it can be discarded as bullshit ,as any sane investigator would do it :D

The sketch of the priest makes him look like an alien. I'm more inclined to believe an Alien with advanced powers was in the crowd, and decided to break his cover and help out someone dying.

Yes, that sounds more plausible.

When people are under a great deal of stress the mind may find ways to comfort itself and make sense of the situation, and in this case her comfort manifested itself in her faith and in the form of a priest. Case closed.

Are you kidding me?! I saw this yesterday on CNN. They were talking about it all day.

I've heard a lot of incredible stories from EMT ambulance drivers/on-site paramedics. It's pretty amazing what people have seen and witnessed.

Except the road was closed for a quarter mile all around, so he couldn't have driven away that quick. If he walked away, you think one of the dozen people looking for him would spot him, but I suppose it's possible.

As far as I can make out this story amounts to no more than:

Firefighter's tools are inadequate for the job.

Firefighters get new tools that are adequate for the job.

Still, a miracle priest definitely jazzes the whole thing up that's for sure.

Did the responders also hallucinated with the priest?

...I'm kinda confused as to exactly what this random dude did that was so miraculous. He claimed the tools "would now work," and then they just brought new tools in anyway. He didn't even make an accurate statement.

A bunch of people who's job it is to show up and rescue people showed up and rescued people. Where is the miracle? Just that a random dude showed up and then left?

Yeah, but you can't sell papers with banal stuff like that.

'Mystery man says a prayer then fucks off; Firefighters do their job.'

That's actually a good point. What exactly did this guy do?

I'm just waiting for the priest to call up the author of this story and let them know he is not and angel, and he left because he was running late to work.

At best, he might have given the person hope. As cliche as that sounds. Not that hope saves people, she still needed the equipment. But stuff like religion/spiritual stuff can make a difference in people clinging to life (with regards to motivation and wanting to stay alive).

Best I got. Having been in an accident where I almost dead though, I was completely numb to everything due to the shock. I really didn't have a lot of room for emotion. Even when my parents were standing over me crying. It was all kind of a blur. Only thing I remember is that awful burning smell of the asphalt and metal.

Maybe he was staying at a place where he only had to walk through the cornfields to get to the commotion and left when it looked like the rescue was done?

I think to really be convincing, this story needs a "scientists baffled" in the headline.

He's saying the priest was Dustin Hoffman.

As much as I respect religion did he really say that? Reading that makes me laugh.

The sense of humor in me makes me think he further embelished it and said, "Thank you Jesus, you are my shepard, thank you Jesus, you sorcerer, you stallion.".

I paraphrased, but yes, he said "sorcerer"...lol

That's why I included the video.

Easily my favourite media catchphrase lately. UK tabloids are terrible with this; "scientists baffled" followed by several completely rational explanations later in the article.

He said jesus over 50 times. "you are my shield" i also recall.

Vegas should have had an over/under on the jesus name drop.
