I saw a couple of episodes. Seemed pretty interesting, thought about ordering the collection series.

Thoughts?

Also, what's up with Adam Savage's online goatsee -- what that really him or just a good look-alike.

Thanks!

Great show.

Dont know if the shows worth buying DVD's for simply because Discovery channel does reruns all the time, just catch them on TV.

And no, that wasn't Adam's dark matter on display for the world to see.

Excellent show. The other night they showed this sweet-ass Korean Rocket-Powered Exploding Arrow Launcher which was so fucking cool. The same night they showed the different ways of sobering up (most debunked), as well as this million-match head fireball thing. And since that wasn't good enough, they made a FUCKING BAD ASS CANNON USING MATCH HEADS AND A BOWLING BALL. BAD ASS!!!

Such an awesome show. They're at their best when they're looking at really big explosions and fires and stuff and the guy with the muskrat growing on his face starts giggling like a little kid. So cool.

It was until they did the moon hoax episode. That episode was a fucking farce!

J/K. It's not as good as it used to be, though.

Used to be good, now bad. They used to mythbust some really good things but now they are doing stupid stuff like mythbusting Jaws and James Bond movies. Who gives a fuck about that. Get back to doing real science and not this pop culture BS.

Pop rocks + soda is more "real science" then fusing metal or various movie myths? It's all pop-culture.

Have you watched the show.... Its always been pop culture stuff. Mentos and coke comes to mind.
Stuff that was sent around in email chains, and announced on legitimate news stations like using your cell phone at a gas pump could cause a fire.

the nature of a show like this, just like with Penn and Teller's Bullshit, and Dirty Jobs with Mike Row, the longer the show goes the less material they have to go with. They've been really smart by having the viewers send in requests now. Seems like every episode is a viewers request show now.

Great show although episode by episode quality is dependent on what they're testing. Some of the stuff they do, man is it awesome. Match-head cannon/fireball was great. Going all out to disintegrate a car by ramming something into it was just wow.

The cell phone and gas pump is an example of what I'd like them to do more of as I can see people getting into debates about the truthfullness of this myth. While no one is sitting around with friends going I wonder if you could really blow a shark up with a air tank. Yeah they did silly stuff like the mentos and pop rocks but they were sandwiched in between more serious mythbustings.

Awesome show - except for the fact it's gotten a little more...scripted, for lack of a better word - things seem a little more forced a times, and a little less off the cuff, which I liked from the early episodes.

That drunk myths episode was one of the best. The high-speed shot of Adam getting slapped in the face was amazing.

The myth was based on a movie where a shark gets blown up, but the more basic premise was just if you can blow up an air tank with a gun. It's absolutely no different then 95% of the rest of the show EXCEPT for the fact it was also done in a movie.

Amazing show. Yes not all the myths, and thus episodes, are stellar, but after watching for so many years I enjoy watching the crew, namely Jaime and Adam, even if they're doing a shitty myth.

I really like the show most of the time. Like Dirty Jobs, I'd like to buy the DVDs but they're only available through the Discovery website and they're stupidly expensive.

Then there's the plane on the conveyor belt myth, which was no only tested in a great way, but the epic internet meltdowns at the people who were wrong were hilarious.

The show has really gone downhill the last two seasons, they have basicly resorted into huge explosions and death daring stunts. I used to enjoy Mythbustsers cuz you got to see Adam and Jamie build, try and fail at stuff. The first two seasons was great at that! I loved the build offs, lately its not been that good and dont even get me started about the movie myth episodes.. Those were fucking awful.

Edit: Also what happend with the folklore expert? This show has been dumbed down.

It's a good show. But you almost know going in that whatever myth they're testing is going to be busted, it seems. That's why I like the unexpectedly "plausible" ones. One that comes to mind was an elephant actually being afraid of a mouse. No one saw that coming.

Yup the cheese dialogs threw me off sometimes. Good show is an understatement. This is a great show.

Unfortunately, I'd really have to disagree with that comic. Sure, experimentation works, but an experiment is as only as the assumptions supporting it and the evidence drawn from it. Otherwise, we'd still be doing alchemy, the balance of humors, and so forth.

If the goal is to challenge the complacency of man, then philosophy and lessons in critical throught would be more useful.

I hate the spoilers they put in the intro and bumpers.

And the blowing stuff up for no reason is getting bald space marine like.

It was pretty good back in the earlier seasons when they used to actually test real myths. It's decent now, but nowhere near as good as it used to be.

This is my biggest greif with american television, what is the need to recap what happend the previous 3 mins and to show what comes the next 3mins? This really ruined a lot of shows for me. I cant even watch Kitchen Nightmares, it was like 8min of what will happen in the episode.

I think what you mean to ask in the title is "Great show or greatest show."

It does depend on the myths being tested though. Some are just kind of ho hum, but some are just really damn cool to see the results. I am a big fan of the exploding water heater myth. The sheer amount of destruction they caused with a water heater was impressive.

The thing that sets this show apart from all the Mythbusters wannabes on Discovery are the hosts. Adam, Jamie, Kari, Tory, and Grant all just scream "nerd" and it is great. They seem genuinely excited by what they do, instead of some wanna be cool guy or girl doing similar things. (I am looking at you Smash Lab!).

Watch as much as possible, it is one of the most consistently entertaining shows out there.

Only problem with the show is the need to cut between myths and review what they are doing between switching myths and commercial breaks. 10 minutes of the show is "Jamie and Adam derp de derp derp derp!"

DVR for the win.

this show and brainiac are awesome though i have started to notice MB is starting to take stuff already done by brainiac and top gear (random i know but i watch so much top gear anytime one comes up its glaring to me, especially when they were trying to disprove the idea of out driving a speed gun and kept calling it busted when top gear actually already did it)

Alkali metals in water....

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cqeVEFFzz7E

They are both still fun shows

Horrible show, but entertaining for the experiments themselves.

The entire cast can go jump off a cliff for all I care. It's so corny and patronizing the way they talk to each other, come the fuck on, I know its a TV show but who the hell talks like they do?

It sounds like you need a happy pill.

So watched an episode -- it was where they were testing movie myths about being a 'cat-burglar' and stuff. Alright episode, I agree I like the non-movie related myths but, I swear -- I busted my appendix laughing at this part:

Jamie's magnetic hands and feet on scaling the vents: (LOUD NOISE)

Adam: "Oh my god, Thor the God of Thunder is sneaking in!!"

(or something along those words)
:lol :lol :lol

The times when Jamie and Adam bicker are sometimes uncomfortable, but sometimes priceless. When they are building a new Buster, Jamie criticizes Adam for making Buster fat (or something like that). Adam retorts with: "I guess we just need to make Buster in the image of Jamie. The Greek God!"

I love the show. But I hate the fact that it's only on standard definition discovery channel and not the HD one. The fact that the show is letterboxed makes it even worse.
