N64 Classic Rumored! What’s your Wishlist?

It seems to be flying just fine, since MS is the only hardware maker that has BC anymore.
What gibberish are you trying to get across?

"Nintendo: Doomed since 1889"

Lol, I'm sure Nintendo is just fine where they are.
What do you think will happen to Sony next generation if people can't move their PlayStation 4 libraries over to the PlayStation 5? It would turn into hell on earth. Standards have changed, expectations have changed, digital is nearing 50% of purchases, ecosystems exist now and they need to carry over and anything less is not acceptable. Modern systems need to be compatible both forward and backward, abandoning your libraries is no longer an option.

My wishlist:
- F-Zero X Expansion Kit

All other N64 games I want I already have on the N64 or am eyeing to buy soon (Rocket: Robot on Wheels, Chameleon Twist 1 & 2 and Gex 2 & 3 are the missing ones).

We are talking about 22-33 year old games. Not this gen to next gen. Calm yourself.

If they can't include Rare games I dont know what kind of mini console it would be. Although first party games like the obligued Zeldas, Marios, Kirby are great, it wouldnt be enough imo.
1st party wishlist:
-Mario 64, TLOZOOT, TLOZMM, MK 64, SSB 64, Kirby 64, Mario Party 2
-Yoshi's Story
-Pokemon Puzzle League
-Pokemon Snap
-Animal Crossing
-Mario Golf 64
-Wave Race, 1080 Snowboarding, FZero X

2nd Party:
-All RARE games :(

No 1st party wIshlist:
-Star Wars RS
-Turok II
-RE 2
-Mischief makers
-Mystical Ninja
-Bomberman 64
-Ogre Battle 64

Dude...how much of your PS3 library was forward compatible? The "hell on earth" you're talking about never happened, and it won't.

My list is pretty light, all I care about is
Zelda OoT
Majoras Mask
Wave Race
Beetle Adventure Racing
Mario Kart
Diddy Kart
Perfect Dark
Ogre Battle

That's really it lol

Just two things:
  • Implement a die-shrink of the Ique SoC for native hardware support instead of relying on ARM, and certainly not that outdated SoC they use now.
  • This game as a pack in title, a worthy successor to Goldeneye 64 as a standalone mod.

N64 Classic seems like a hard sell, for a few reasons.

- The games didn't age well, visually.
- Compared to NES and SNES, there really aren't a tremendous number of games widely regarded as classics now.
- The controller is funky. (I was fine with it at the time, but if I'm being honest it does not look like it was made for humans.)

Mario 64, pilot wings, oot, rogue squadron, banjo, conker, paper Mario, ff6 Tech demo!, bomberman, Dr Mario, Mario golf, Tony hawk

This is getting out of control. These classic consoles are a waste of time, especially when shit like licensing will get in the way of having significant classic games included in the package. I doubt this has thing gets Goldeneye or WWE No Mercy. Other games like Turok have already been re-mastered. Most of the big Nintendo games have been re-released numerous times on the Wii Classic Console.

Then don't buy them?

Goldeneye - though it is never happening
Body Harvest
Rogue Squadron
Shadow of the Empire

Anything else is a bonus

I'm really hoping for an uprez and framerate fixes but...it's Nintendo.

I never understood the issues with the controller though. At a time where we were transitioning from 2d to 3d, the N64 controller was one of the few that still had 6 face buttons, shoulder buttons, analogue stick, and a completely decent dpad. If developers wanted - for 3d games, they could make use of the joystick in the middle. I think it was a clever way of getting around the issue Sony and Sega had where they split their consumer base into those who had analogue sticks and those who didn't.

Also, I'm hoping for native hardware too (iQue die shrink) but I still think they can make use of the ARM hardware to accomplish the same thing.

As for games, everything that's currently available in VC or bust.

This would only be worth it if they included some of the 3rd-party games like the RUSH series, Vigilante 8, WWF/WWE, and Mischief Makers.

and yet people can't move their PS3 digital libraries across to PS4?

I'm kinda worried that it won't support up to 4 controllers. Many of my favorite N64 games had 4-player support:

Bomberman 64
Golden Eye
Perfect Dark
Mario Kart 64
Super Smash Bros
Conkers Bad Fur Day
Star Fox 64
Mario Golf
Mario Tennis
Mario Party
Gauntlet Legends
NFL Blitz 2000
Worms Armageddon
Snowboard Kids

One of my favorite consoles.... mst of the games I want have been covered by others.
Mostly... conkers, banjo, perfect dark, 1080 and Donkey Kong 64....

Yeah 16bit games are timeless classics, N64 is just outdated. Ocarina of Time & Majora's Mask would've been worth it if the superior 3DS versions wouldn't exist.

Had a N64 when i was a kid.....ive enjoyed a limited amount of games (classic to this days like OOT, Goldeneye and the same like 15 names that pops out when a discuss of N64 starts), a friend of mine had a PS1. Always got depressed when i went to his home and played all of the gorgeous and interesting games tha he had. I dont see a N64 being a success, and i dont see it bringing a large amount of classic cuz honestly, its doenst have so many.

Games that defined N64 for me:

Super Mario 64
Goldeneye
Perfect Dark
TLoZ: Ocarina of Time
TLoZ: MM
FIFA Road To World Cup 98
Banjo-Kazooie
Mario Kart 64
Super Smash Bros.
Diddy Kong Racing
Wave Race 64
1080° Snowboarding
Paper Mario
Mission: Impossible
Pokemon Stadium
Star Wars Episode I: Racer
Yoshi's Story
Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2 (cheating here, played it mostly on PC, but still it's such a good game)
Mario Party 2 or 3

I noticed, since I wrote in the Playstation Classic thread as well, that it was much easier to fit in less than 20 N64 games I used to play (I counted, I only came up with 19), than PS1 games. Just shows how defining the PS1 was, when it feels like it has too many good games.

Don't think this will have more than 14-18 games. Controllers are too big, might work against them creating a small, compact, economical package.

I biggest wish is that the emulation is accurate enough for speedrunning against real consoles.

Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2 (cheating here, played it mostly on PC, but still it's such a good game)
Impossible, Activision has given up the Tony Hawk license. Nintendo / Activision will not renegotiate contracts to offer an old game on a classic console.

Mission Impossible, GoldenEye and Star Wars Episode 1 Racer will face similar problems. Pokémon Stadium without the GB games does not make much sense either.

URA ZELDA PLZ!!!!!!! That would be amazing but I know that the chances of it ever happening are slim to none as it has never been released or completed in development. Though it would be awesome to replay Oot with a bunch of brand new dungeons and be on a new adventure!

Also I would like Doshin the Giant. It was a japan exclusive for the 64dd and it was a god sim. It seems very unique and bizarre, I would like to try it.

GoldenEye
Perfect Dark
Mario 64
Paper Mario
Ocarina
Majora
Mario Tennis
Mario Golf
Smash
Star Fox
Ken Griffeys Slugfest
Mario Party 1

I'll only say this... <3

LOVE that image. The text on each of the points is brilliant - only way it could have been improved would be some satire on the comfort levels the controller offers to three handed individuals. Excellent. :messenger_darts:

In terms of the system I would MUCH rather have a GB/GBC one this year and GBA next. I would actually buy one of these if it were based on a handheld as playing retro games on a TV is just not my favoured way of engaging with them.

Plus, let's be honest - the n64 lineup was mostly hot garbage outside of Paper Mario and rose tinted specs. Especially with the poor controls. Most of the worthwhile games have been remade for newer systems. Only Kirby and Yoshi's Story are playable and have not been revisited due to being so much lower in quality than fans would expect.

Yoshi's Story could do with the m2 treatment to better track which levels you have done and make it more of a thing to fill out the whole book. As a kid I completed it once and thought that was it. Even though I had borrowed the game I was still furious and felt majorly ripped off after Yoshi's Island. (Why they made it one page per book to go through the game instead of page by page as the levels of a world confuses me to this day. I don't know a single person who realised there was more game there than one playthrough and who played through it more than once instead of raging at the rip-off garbage they had been tricked into being hyped for!)

With all the nonsense addon packs I doubt the n64 would even be able to play my cartridges back-ups properly so IMO the only thing that makes sense is GB/GBC styled as a GBC with switchable faceplates and built in wireless multiplayer (or flip open a flap and flop out a connect cable.)

Most importantly too the GB/GBC mini should be £50, no more. With a minimum of 40 games.

If you are a European, you can get it for GCN / Wii and it is pretty cheap.

Goldeneye 007
Super Mario 64
Mario Kart 64
Diddy Kong Racing
Star Wars Shadows of the Empire
Star Wars Rogue Squadron
Star Wars Episode I Racer
Star Fox 64
Wave Race 64
1080 Snowboarding
F-Zero X
WCW/nWo Revenge
Winback: Covert Operations
Ridge Racer 64
Perfect Dark
Conker's Bad Fur Day

Obviously not a list that's going to come to fruition, but that's what I'd want. However I have all those cartridges and my real N64 set up at home, so meh.

I just want it to have the same smell..

Weird, I know. The N64 really impressed me at the time. Everything about it. The shape, the colors, the box, everything.

Though I was furious over how easy and short Yoshi's Story was, I did realise it was four levels per world. In fact, the game tells you about this the first time you collect a heart.

I think the following games are timeless gems, not all of them did get ported (properly):
- Zelda MM (3DS)
- Zelda OoT (3DS)
- Mario 64 (DS, but with worse controls)
- Banjo-Kazooie (360)
- Banjo-Tooie (360)
- Conker (360)
- Blast Corps (360)
- Diddy Kong Racing (DS, but with worse controls)
- F-Zero X (best racing game ever made, btw)
