Nagoshi talks about Yakuza localization (no 5, maybe Ishin), platform choice, & more

Yeah they really tried hard on WiiU.....lol

Eh, I'm more or less done with this series then. These games just weren'tt meant for the West, I guess. I understand that they don't have the resources to localize it, but I personally find it nearly impossible to care about the "next gen", spin off entry when we'll never 5. Might have to retire my avatar at some point. Thanks a lot, Nagoshi, Sega, and the droves of people who never supported these games. =(

Next year, after I play Trails SC and release my game, I might just retire from this whole scene in general. I'm so tired of thinking about games I'll never have a chance to play. Might be time to retire soon.

Like localizing Isshin makes sense. Let's skp the main game, Yakuza 5 for the PS3 which has a huge userbase and localize Isshin, a spinoff for the PS4, which predecessor Kenzan was never released and is even more nich, considering it's setting!

I would like to play Isshin too, but man, this sucks. Come on Sony, step in and revive the game for the West, like what Nintendo did with Bayo 2! You can even brag how this late in the PS3's life there's still exclusive games coming!

Getting spinoff instead off proper canonical part will be sad if it happens.

Especially since Isshin will bomb like Zombie spin-off

They wanted to get a launch game out for the PS4's release in Japan, and the only way to do that was to skip the localization programming for Yakuza 5. It does actually make sense. Don't forget Isshin has a PS3 version also. Yakuza 5 is a much larger localization project than the earlier games that were already selling very poorly, so it was unlikely to get localized in any case.

Sony's already confirmed that Yakuza 5 is one of the most requested games for their port/localization team.

I disagree. I think a samurai game has more appeal in the west than one about the Yakuza, especially if it's an early next-gen game.

Okay Yakuza GAF, time to send a letter to Sega and kickstart a translation patch

Fuck that.

If we're serious, there needs to be a PS4noDRM-style push in social media channels. Then, and only then will Sega even think about considering this.

I don't see how we can possibly gather the interest for something like this though.

Understandable. Sega's localization efforts are probably all devoted to the totally real and not at all quietly cancelled PSO2 worldwide release.

Expected, but as someone who's way more interested in the modern-day Yakuza games than any samurai-related side material, I'm still disappointed.

Ishin's most likely getting localized, and because I'm going to honestly try building up a library this time I intend to buy it whenever it comes out.

There's no 5, but I don't feel like going back and looking at Yakuza 1&2's PS2 graphics anyway, so wouldn't I be lost?

Disappointing. Why interviewers never ask what's keeping japanese developers from using Kickstarter to localize their games? Square Eenix and Sega have american branches so they could start one I guess. Maybr publishing costs would be too high?

Yes, all hope lost. Yakuza series is now offically a Japan-only thing. Sad to hear it, but yeah.

Yeah, I doubt we'll get Ishin at all now. :(

It's not

We will get it.
Mark my words people.

You think? Because this strikes me as a polite way of saying no:

Nagoshi: I’d definitely love to reach the whole world, haha, if we have the manpower and the money to do it.

I'm sure he wants a pony too.

What originally led me to being interested in the Yakuza games was the modern setting and story that was similar to Yakuza films that I've always enjoyed. That being said, I don't care much about Kenzan or Isshin.. sure, I'll play them if they are released outside of Japan, but I'm not hyped enough to actually import like I did with the first game and will with Yakuza 5.

Shame, really. I would've bought Yakuza 5 on launch day, but the truth is that there's not enough people who would do the same to make it worthwhile for SEGA to greenlight localization for this. I'm grateful that we got what we got, considering how limited the audience was. I'll find the second game preowned at some point to complete my collection and call it a day.

Yakuza just isn't for the West. I'm disappointed, but I can't be angry at the decision here.

Yeah the Wii U port of 1&2 was not really sound business and should not have represented interest in the series on that platform. However a release in the West would have been more appropriate. I was hoping Nintendo would take the series and release it in the West to try to cultivate a new brand...but no.

Not getting this series at all makes me so angry.

Get the spin-off, don't get the main-line entry.

Fuck you Sega, honestly. Just fuck you.

It's not always about the money, it's also about the resources.

Not all publishers/devs are fond of allowing 3rd-parties to port/localise their own games, and will do things on their own terms.

It's the same for Baba/Tales of series.

Well, if they localize Ishin, then I'll buy it. I'm desperate for new Yakuza. Hopefully if that gets enough sales, they'll reconsider Y5.

I disagree. I think a samurai game has more appeal in the west than one about the Yakuza, especially if it's an early next-gen game.

Just like all the other popular Samurai games over here...let's be honest these type of games are extremely niche. And we don't really know, Kenzan was never released...

Doesn't matter whether it's early next gen or not, people don't care, they will be busy with COD, BF, Infamous, KZ, ND game etc. The Yakuza series is very niche in the West, Samurai or modern day, it really doesn't matter. But getting a gaiden game instead of a mainline entry is just mind boggling imho.

And it's a gaiden game, they will make Yakuza 6, 7, 8 next. Which we won't get either.

Feels like the best case scenario we get to play Ishin before they cancel all access to the series in the west. What am I supposed to do now?

Though I'd rather play Yakuza 5, I could see Sega releasing a localized version digitally since Ishin is also coming out for the PS4. Cut out superfluous text-heavy minigames like the quiz game, shave a couple of bucks off the price to combat the inevitable bitchin' somewhat, and then release it digital-only to diminish the risk factor. Of course I'd want 8-4 to localize, but I ain't too picky.

Western Exclusive: Akiyama has traveled back in time, pimpsuit and all, to kick some samurai ass!

Haruka ❤❤❤

I think Sega is clueless and that Sony's 3rd party relations team is incompetent.

It would't hurt to help with the localising and marketing to the West. Sony needs to stop acting like the Yakuza franchise doesn't exist and start collaborating with SEGA to make it bigger than ever, it really has potential to be popular in the West. We love sandbox games!

Man I need Isshin in my life.

It's just baffling that Sega would rather make no money at all than let another high-quality group do it and get pure profit with zero effort. It's just like Namco with all the Tales games they never localized.

Aren't there Sony Suits on Twitter that you can bug about these exact kinds of things?

there's @Giocorsi and @Amboyes they've mentioned it's their most requested game but it might be a case of sega being too stubborn, shitty and stupid to let them do it
