Hopefully it makes it eventually though....I mean they have Atlus's localization team now right? ;-;
NISA manages to profit off of them somehow, though, despite their games having sizable scripts and high-profile Japanese voice actors.

Lol at people still saying not to dub it. Been that way since 2.
NISA is not Sega
I'm sure they have two different definitions of profitable
Kinda like the difference between a college student living with their parents and a PhD graduate who owns their own house. They can both work at McDonalds and make money, but while the college student might appreciate that paycheck, it's probably not worth the time of someone with much higher living expenses and access to much more appealing and lucrative opportunities.
Yes, but surely some money is better than none. Sega doesn't even have to localize it themselves, they can let someone else do it and make pure profit. Sega's definition of profitable is likely unreasonable, which seems to be a problem among the bigger Japanese publishers like Square-Enix and Capcom.
Probably, but they've been doing pretty well after scaling back on home console development to just proven franchises in territories they've proven to do well in, so I see that unlikely to change. Especially for a Yakuza game, which to my knowledge sold progressively worse over here with new each entry they brought over.
I WANT MICHAEL MADSEN BACK.

...how is the game anyway?
Actually, I wouldn't be surprised if NISA's games outsold the Yakuza games at this point. It's pretty dire.NISA manages to profit off of them somehow, though, despite their games having sizable scripts and high-profile Japanese voice actors.
SEGA have their own strategy about this sort of stuff, see Valkyria Chronicles see their Vita games, if they think a game wont sell enough or don't have fanbase they will not do it, Atlus USA team mean nothing here since we are playing with SEGA rules here.
It's not
We will get it.
Mark my words people.
Ishin's most likely getting localized, and because I'm going to honestly try building up a library this time I intend to buy it whenever it comes out.
There's no 5, but I don't feel like going back and looking at Yakuza 1&2's PS2 graphics anyway, so wouldn't I be lost?
So they can purchase an entire company, but Sega can't find a way to localize Y5. Eff you.
squeaky wheel gets the oil.
All 20 Western Yakuza fans are devastated.
I can't stop believing, sorry Nagoshi.
Well.
Time to import 5, I guess.

.....good lord.
so this is a bummer right here
this guy knows! BELIEVE
where are you getting "most likely" from? and please dont say "a guy on GAF"
also: no, every mainline Yakuza title has a good (and optional) catchup video at the beginning, so you can jump right in
and said company excels at top-tier localizations, too
game is like 5+ years old now though, might be time to import!
those 20 are worth all 76 bionic commando fans, though
PREACH
honestly, i'm holding out - the Operation Rainfall poll is about to end, and i wanna see what kind've momentum it gets.
no hurry either, i need to wait on KHH subs' YT walkthrough before i'd be ready. now, 1/2 HD i might go ahead with by the year's end.
It's a niche Japanese game. I don't know what they were expecting.Every time fans begged that there was a huge user base ready to buy the games, every time said imaginary user base didn't buy the game in enough numbers to make it worth SEGA's efforts. They even made a relatively large marketing push with 4, for naught.
Why people keep hoping for further entries to be localised is beyond me. We don't deserve it.

Isn't that what they tried with the first game? Complete with the dub? I don't know if it will ever hit critical mass, but neither should it be.They need to market it with a bit more oomph. Show the heat moves, guys getting smashed with bikes etc. Make it out to be the Japanese GTA and it should help sell a few more. I think Sony should at least help with marketing if not localization.
After reading this post from our old bud Segata Sanshiro, maybe you might not care as much? (come baaack, SS)
@Sanshiro_Segata: Hey, English Yakuza fans. I know you are disappointed. It sucks to not get a loc for a game you were looking forward to. If it's any consolation, RGG5 is the worst installment of the main series by far. You know when a great TV show goes a couple seasons too long just because it's making money? RGG5 could be gaming's poster boy for that. Three plots that completely fail to come together properly, Kiryu/Haruka/Akiyama completely shoehorned in, total disregard for 4's ending, A main plot more focused on a weird criticism/support of the Idol business instead of yakuza, some of the worst forced mini-games yet, Cutscenes go for nearly an hour all too frequently, new character is fun but his fighting is ass and he REALLY doesn't ever fit in the story. Essentially you've been deprived of season 8 of House. I wish I could roll back my regard for the series to where it was immediately after RGG4. It wasn't my favorite but it at least set up a promising future for the series, which has unfortunately been bulldozed by Dead Souls, Kurohyou 2, and 5. In conclusion, I guess be more disappointed you didn't get 1&2 HD. Those are awesome.

Pretty revealing me thinks.
"How dare Sega not localize this series that I clearly have no intentions to buy or play!"
Maybe is it time to do something larger scale (such as Operation Rainfall) to get the fifth entry? Many people seem to have been looking forward to it, I'm sure if we all were to make some kind of major push to let Sega know that we would indeed purchase and play a basic Yakuza 5 translation, we can make it happen and also get more people interested in the series in one fell swoop. I definitely agree with that one poster about Sony having a potential niche to fill in the marketplace with the release of more obscure Japanese titles, and Yakuza 5 seems more than deserving of a chance to capture North American audiences.
