You're such a hater. You already ate crow on this game this morning. Are you really so eager to do it again?
how am I hating? people speculate that the game might not have battles. so there is no point in calling it an rpg if there isnt any sort of combat imo, might as well call it an adventure game or something.

the scan clearly says it's an rpg so Im expecting some kind of battle system there! :P

dont get me wrong Im looking forward to it because it looks interesting and it's nice to see the Wii getting some original content.

What if there are no battles.... and no enemies?
the point of an rpg is to have your character grow so you can take up on new enemies/challenge/problem (when i say this some people then scoff by saying stuff like "then devil may cry it's an rpg because you can buy new & better moves for dante? well at this point it's a problem of focus, the game put more focus on fighting enemies than becoming better) if it's missing this then it's not an rpg or it definitely play differently than a normal rpg

Maybe they figured you don't need battles in RPGs.

Although they didn't, going by Stormbringer's post in the other thread:

The text does mention evil spirits that you will encounter, and that there are various ways to dispatch them (with the flashlight and weapons). It also mentions that Set is trying to uncover the mystery of why people disappeared in the first place. But it's still a little too early to tell if it'll be traditional combat (probably not) or something more unique/puzzle-like.

The pictures from Famitsu looks ok, hopefully its just in beta stage atm though.

I will absolutely keep track of this game during it development..

Anyway may be a good thing that tri-Crescendo concentrates on the programming, sound/music and perhaps some gameplay design role again. Also hope Sakuraba does the score, the last one for a game with a truly modern setting with respective abstract sounds/music was Yougekitai on PC98 in 1993 (one could also count Cybernetic Empire for PS1 in 1999, but that has sappy FMVs).

As for RPG style games featuring only a loose focus on battles try Dark Law.

Info from the game says that you carry wooden or metal objects you can use as weapons, doesn't it?

No. It only says that the only "weapon" seen in the screens is a wooden stick. Set also carries a metal detector device that is used to uncover items and stuff hidden in the ground. You also use the wiimote for this.

Okay, let's celebrate the banning of Eteric Rice with Fragile celebration!

- Game design and graphics direction by the Seven/Venus & Braves team led by producer Kentaro Kawashima

- Game developed by Tri-Crescendo

- Third person exploration RPG set in a post-apocalyptic era

- The main character is a boy named Set that explores abandoned city ruins in a future world

- The theme of the game is exploring lonely and empty ruins while encountering things once in a long while

- The wiimote will be used to aim the flashlight while you move around

Graphics and atmosphere look pretty damned good. If they can keep it moody and compelling, it should be great--I just hope it's not too boring and uninteractive.

luigi mansion rpg?

In addition to exploration, Seto has to deal with ghosts who appear in the ruins. We're not sure how he fights these foes, but it seems that a stick of some form is involved

There, IGN says you fight ghosts.
Take that, Luigi

I cannot believe some people are hating on this.

We barely know anything about the game yet, so people should stop leaping to conclusions and then concluding they "do not want" the game. I can guarantee you that it's not going to be a traditional or normal or run-of-the-mill standard RPG/game but that's exactly why it's so worth being interested in it. What these guys did with V&B warrants that.

well so since most people here haven't played it what makes venus & brave good?
it's hard to be excited because it's made by the people who made a game that i know only by name and some video

Non sequitur, I know, but damn you for making me search for a The Wings of Honneamise DVD.
I remember this being out on tape back then and always wanting to own it. Then a stupid friend bought me the WnA DVD because the names "sounded similar". Grrr.
...
Oh god, there are HD DVD/Bluray editions in the making? Gnnn... must resist.

Anybody into Anime not owning or planning to buy this will be pruned from this planet once my world domination plans come to fruition.

(sorry for offtopic)

In the making? They came out months ago. I've had the WoH blu-ray since July.
Not in Germany they didn't.
Cheap copout for not being able to interprete amazon.com data I know

Anyway... DON'T TEMPT ME! *sob*

Didn't save them from Frame City Killer. Do not want! :lol

Duckroll, you are awesome and all, but laughing at your own jokes doesn't make them any funnier.

In any case, I've never played V&B so any hype because of that game is lost on me. The game does seem pretty interesting and a departure from the majority of Wii efforts so I'm willing to give it a shot. Plus Tri-Crescendo are pretty solid developers.

This might have been answered already but do we know who's in charge of the music? I don't think Sakuraba would fit with the style the game seems to be going for.

Wow, count me surprised. This one came out of nowhere - I'm very intrigued. You've got my attention Namco - now make sure it is vindicated.

Oh man. What the hell at the people wanting another grind-a-thon battle system inducing RPG. C'mon people, there are several hundred of those lying around, for once I'd like to see a minor type of battle system in an RPG that doesn't involve grinding for hours to allow my characters to "grow".

I will buy but then again I have 25 Wii games in the one year that it was released. Not all of them would be games that people consider to be stellar.

Believe it or not, there are tons of great RPGs out there where no grinding is needed as you continue. tri-Crescendo's RPGs never have required you to grind (at least not during the main quest), not sure about 7 or V&B, but I don't see why they can't work together to make a new and awesome battle system.

Some of the pics are like Silent Hill. Though of course the main character is like from some anime, but the surroundings... except the shots with the moon... err... nevermind, I guess they're pretty far from each others, and this game isn't even supposed to be a horror game, but an RPG.

Okay, after looking at the scans - I'm really intrigued now.

Don't dissapoint me, Namco, after what you did with Soul Calibur Legends.

I have 5...

I hope Masako Ogami, Keiki Kobayashi and other Namco sound team staffs continue to handle music for it. I know Sakuraba is likely since Tri-Crescendo is involved, but if it was his, his name would have been already announced.

Looks really interesting both in the premise and the screens. Hope it turns out well, I'll definitely be keeping an eye on this one.

Wow shit. I love the art style in this game.

Shot is beautiful!

Yep. The colours are very good together. Kind of gives me an FFVII-just past the mining town on the train tracks at dusk feeling (though dont let that ruin the thread)

In V&B (not played 7 but I'm pretty sure it's almost exactly the same) you can only "level up" three times, which is done by delivering the final blow in battle. Stats increase and decrease with time depending on the age of your characters (except for Blood, your main character, who is immortal and whose stats don't change). You can also level up equipment, but if you level it up too far then items break from overuse. So grinding is actually discouraged to an extent unless you plan appropriately to even out the "levelling up" of your troops (you don't get a huge stat increase anyway from doing so).

That sound so much better than all the Experience points hording.

They should really take a picture of that "guy" in a different pose. There must be some sort of animation.
