I can't help but think this could give the Xbox brand a black eye with its current loyal fanbase.

I mean, I *hate* what I've seen so far. The brand repositioning, the fact that MS is spending huge resources on this, trying to turn the Xbox 360 into a "Wii-too" knock-off...

Can one console really be two things to different people? Look how dismally hardcore games sell on Wii.

By trying to appeal to a new, casual audience, I think MS is risking losing its hardcore credentials and tarnishing its image with its current fans.

Because it isn't Microsoft's new console. Full stop. Your fantasy, your "what ifs" don't matter because it isn't.

They're treating it like a new console launch. It's going to be packaged in with 360's moving forward, so it's going to be easy to buy for the casuals.

Nintendo proved that a peripheral can have an insanely high attach rate so long as there's a killer app. Why can't Microsoft attempt something along the same lines for the current userbase?

Not as big as the Wii obviously! But theyre going to do fine. (With some huge kickass PR of course)

Isn't that kind of a problem though?
I mean, they're already sinking million, maybe even hundreds of millions into marketing this, and it's not even out yet.
MS's gaming division finally just started turning a profit, and they're going to waste it all on a fucking add on.

Now it leaked it's 189 bucks? This thread is just delivering the goods! :lol :lol

Well given the source it's best to take it with a truck of salt, and there's supposed to be a cheaper (gimped?) version, but if it's true...

Kinect. Move. 3D gaming.

It should just be about games, games and more games.

I just realized "Kinect" = "Connect" = FAMILY FUN

Then why not call it 'Connect' for Fucks sake??!! Nah, that would probably make too much sense. Perhaps MS is assuming people like utterly unintuitive product names, seeing how the Wii has flown off the shelves.

Seeing as the ad says "compatible with Kinect" (I think?) maybe the slim doesn't come with it, and the different camera costs are accounting for that. Like the 360 phat needs a more expensive version for God-knows-what-reason.

Either that or MS are crazy. Or vg247 are wrong. Both possible.

That there will be 2 options to get Kinect:

1) Buying the new 360 which have the kinect chip integrated and have an external camera
1) Buying a Kinect Bundle which includes the external camera with the Kinetic chip integrated

make sense.

Don't buy this so much. But $189 this thing will fail hard unless that is packed in or something. Whatever the cheaper version Vg247 believes to be better still be the whole package(Kinect function wise) and better be far cheaper than $189.

OMG im dying here!

Kinect Sports has six activities including boxing, bowling, beach volleyball, track and field, soccer and table tennis. To serve a volleyball, you mimic the real motion; in soccer, you can kick the ball or do a header.

How does it tell the difference between a shot and a pass? How do you tackle or take the ball away from another player? This should be interesting...

That would be the ultimate kiss of death.
Needing different versions for different 360 models.

Wonder what else they will announce at their conference. The slim 360 is uglier than the original and 189$ ''Kinect''. So much for the guy that made a thread stating the conference was even more top secret than nuclear launch codes.

It's part of a mini game collection. I doubt it's going to be the full game of football, probably just penalties or something like that.

so hey.. where the hell is that cool skateboard game they showed at E3 2009?

and that fighting game?

and that game where you're a monster stomping on shit?

and that racing game where you get to change tires using your hands?

...

WTF? was it all just complete misleading bullshit? fucking liars.

Kinect? really? Is that going to mean anything to most people other than a way of spelling connect such that you can trademark it? How many people are going to get the fusion of connecting and kinematics?

Obscure branding FTL. I need to look into how you get into that business, somebody probably got paid a bushel of money to come up with that name.

Then again, I don't think anybody liked "Wii" as a name either.
