He could be a potential NSW rep if he hadn't already commited to play for New Zealand.

Speaking of potential, Hopoate has a ton of it. Hopefully we can manage to keep hold of him as his under contract right now.
I think that is so ridiculous. I mean Fijian reps like Hayne can play but not NZ or UK? It makes no sense to me, especially when Queensland uses people born in NSW haha

Hopoate is an early contender for Dally M rookie of the year. Speaking of rookies I'm hoping the fullback Souths are starting this week is as impressive, James Roberts, he looks amazing in Toyota Cup 22 tries in 14 matches. Hope he has what it takes at NRL level.

I think Roberts will have a big first game, which is why I have tipped Souths. How he goes after that will be a bigger test. Plenty of U20 graduates struggle for consistency early on.

If you get dominated in a tackle you will get held down longer.

I know the definition of a dominant tackle and thats not what im talking about. Every single tackle there will be a struggle for the attacker to get to his feet. The position you get yourself in during the tackle will determine how quickly you can get to your feet..
Righto, when you can figure out which point you want to make, then we can talk sensibly. Actually, don't bother, I'm not interested anymore.

At 18 he is young. He is also fairly light at only 80kg, so I'm not sure if he'll have the same effect he does at Toyota Cup. Though he is clearly a league above everyone else in the Toyota Cup.

I think he'll need to gain a bit of weight before he has a big impact, like Dugan and Coote did.

On the other side Nathan Gardner is pretty small but very impressive. So we'll see. I expect the Dogs to ask a lot of questions

Anybody going to any games this week?

I was considering going to the Dragons Roosters ANZAC clash. But I don't think it'll be a good game to watch with Roosters playing so bad.

:(

Sad but probably true. I think the highlight of the round for me will be seeing how Roberts goes for Souths. (not in person)

I feel for Roosters supporters, I'm shitty that we have a talented team not showing up because of our coaching staff. If my team was talented and had a great coach and wasn't showing up because of a drinking culture problem I'd be fuming.

To me it seems like 90% of your team are douches getting new tats and getting pissed every weekend, and even the guys who seem calm like Minichello are supposedly party animals. It seems like your recruitment is awful, I mean bringing in Piggy Riddell into a team with culture problems, who is writing about his favourite drinking buddies in the Sydney Morning Herald two weeks after his first game?

Whoooooooo hell yeah Cowboys had a very solid win, it was a pretty undermanned Sharks side but it's just nice to see my local team doing good after a few seasons of inept displays. Dogs were good, was hoping to see Inglis put one over Idris but bunnies were typically toothless.

Can't believe the Bunnies managed to concede over 30 points a mere week after their best defensive effort.

I really have to stop tipping them.

Yep, I'm an Eels season ticket holder.

On my way back from the game now. I'd love to comment, but I don't want to ruin the game for those watching it on delay.

On second thought...

GO THE EELS! Also, Ashley Klein needs LASIC. Can't believe we got that dropkick two weeks in a row.

I can believe it. Thats what happens when your coach has a different plan every week, none of it consistent with the week before

Pretty exciting win, my brother tipped them and I didn't think they had a chance in the world but they got it together towards the end. I think the Titans contributed to losing the game in the second half but Parramatta looked very likely anyway. What's that 2/3 wins for Parra they've snatched from the death? Both against QLD teams too D:

What do you think of that michael maguire bloke?
He looks good, he'll be brushing out our current coaching staff and bringing in his own people. He is a structured coach with set plays and formations like Bellamy and isn't fussed about dropping under performing players. Also very strict on fitness and conditioning. Things we desperately need. His systems also extend across the younger grades too, so it'll make it easier to step up something we need as well.

The big thing we need is a culture shake up, so hopefully next year is a slap in the face for some of our underperformers. The best thing he did for Wigan, besides bringing home silverware, was rebuild their culture.

Close game. Champion and Cronk bombed to many tries there.

I wasn't referring to what a ref would call a dominate tackle. I mean when players lose the wrestle and get put on their back on the way to the ground.

It's not called a dominate tackle but it will make you take longer to get to your feet because your'e not in a position to fight with the defenders. Players who actually push their nose through and don't let this happen get quick play the balls (like the warriors tonight).

If you think what im saying is bullshit how about actually providing the reason that you think we dominate the ruck?

Grrr, tipped the Storm, thought they'd get over the line in the end. Great game though. Inu turns up for once which really helped out the Warriors.

Holy crap, we actually held on in the end?!

/does happy dance

Few upsets, happy to see the Roosters lose but really didn't expect Storm to go down (happy though, I always think the Warriors team have had potential just never seem to live up to it) and the Titans was one I didn't see coming, they were so poor on game day I'm still a bit filthy.

At least when the Storm went down it was a good spectacle, great game, good crowd, nice way to close out the round.

Damn, decent week for tipping. Eels and Warriors are pretty big upsets for me, dont know how the Eels could win. Good on the Warriors for getting up.

So Matty Elliot is goooooone. Not really that surprising, he doesn't seem to have had much success out that way.

And another Englishman heading down to the NRL... James Graham signed for 3 years to the bulldogs

They took a few ideas from Melbourne.

They lost Idris, leaving $500k+ in the bank.
I don't think Idris' first contract was worth 500k+. Or even half that. Or even close to half that.

Oh, right. That makes sense. Although spending anywhere near 500k on him does not make sense.

Yeah, they got close, but the Titans went higher. In the same position as the Bulldogs, I would have let him go also. He's overrated, there's better places to put money than on him.

only in the NRL :P

CRONULLA forward Jeremy Smith has been issued with a warning after a prank on North Queensland winger Kalifa Faifai Loa.

The prank on Faifai Loa -- Smith's cousin and former teammate -- prompted concerns there had been a repeat of the infamous John Hopoate finger-probing incident.

The match review committee was called on to review the incident yesterday after a member of the public made a complaint to the NRL. Match review commissioner Greg McCallum contacted officials from both the Sharks and the Cowboys seeking an explanation for Smith's actions.

Smith told Cronulla officials it was a prank, but he was only saved from a charge when a video review showed his finger did not make contact with Faifai Loa's anus, but was wedged into his upper hamstring.

"We believe after speaking to both clubs it was a prank gone wrong," McCallum said.

"He ended up making contact with him around his backside area

I've been neglecting my tips lately, but this week shan't be forgot. Tips are done!

Jeremy Smith should get suspended for putting the game into disrepute...that or a grade 2 incest charge.

1/2

Not sure why I tipped an injury depleted Sharks. Possibly because Souths aren't very good.

Souths aren't very good, we should've put 40 on the sharks. I think Fitler hit the nail on the head when we said we shouldn't be out there warming up for half an hour before a game, especially in pouring rain. Lang depresses me something fierce

Also forgot to tip :(

Cowboys almost claimed defeat from the jaws of victory.
6 from 8 now for them, consoladated in the top four and looking good most of the time. What a change from last year.

Cows have been impressive this year.

Still disappointed that they beat us though (damn you goal kicking!).

I think the Eels did alright, considering. It certainly could have been a lot worse.
30 - 0 and they did alright?

I didn't see the game but then again I thought Souths played well against the Dragons despite not scoring any points too

4/8

The second sentence I wrote explained the first, therefore answering your question before you asked it.
And I'm asking why? 30 - 0 instead of 50 - 0 is not the same as "doing alright"! Have some higher expectations

Of these higher expectations you are commanding me to have, what would they be for you in my position as an Eels fan?

Bear in mind that currently, the Eels have the worst offense and the Dragons have the best defense in the game.

The Eels had no chance of winning... did anyone here tip them? The best that could be hoped for was a lowish scoreline. Note that the Eels lost 38-0 vs Melbourne a few rounds earlier and only just beat the Titans last week.

Dont tip the Broncos this week i guess. Resting half their team by the looks of it lol. Dunno how a full strength team would have handled the Strom attack anyway.
