National Rugby League 2011: Clean slate*

We should win this one despite iffy selections (Idris on the bench, Uate or Gordon should have got the nod over Morris who has been very average this year)

Pretty meh game, way to many errors by Australia in the first and New Zealand in the second.

Why am I not surprised there is one injury in a test match and it's a Souths player. We either have the worst luck in the world, or the worst conditioning in the world

Either way, we need to do some voodoo magic to remove this curse or replace the damn inept training and conditioning staff. This is the third year of this nonsense

We lost, but I'm pretty happy with the effort.

Big names for Melbourne made the difference.

Yeah was much, much closer than anticipated, very good game. Second half was very entertaining, Jack Reed's try was awesome.

I think it will be more a case of NRL clubs being able to afford to keep local players who end up leaving for ESL, rather than poaching players from it. The ESL should be developing better talent instead of relying on NRL clubs not being able to afford them.

They're increasing the salary cap to AUS$7m.

Great is you're a NRL fan, but if what people are predicting happens does happen (ie - the Super League suffers a dip in quality with NRL clubs signing the best players from over here/keeping the likes of Pat Richards) - NOT great!

(Is there a Super League thread?)

Cool, another super league follower. The new TV deal is superb for the NRL and rugby league in general. It means that now we should see some of the best backs in Union be more willing to join the NRL. Hopefully we wont see players leave our game to join Union or the AFL now.

Super League will not see a mass exodus of top players. Yes we will see a few players leave but not many as the NRL clubs will be only interested in the very best and there is not too many who are good enough to be honest. Our game in Europe has to start developing better quality players.

Did anybody watch the Hybrid game with Keebra Park. How was it?

Heard it the rules were better for the union side!

Just read this

More money is good, will most likely mean that the big names will just want more of it or threaten going to other clubs. Is good though for the rest of the team, hopefully they get more as well.

I think the general concensus (in Australia) though is that NRL is the big boys, best of the best and Super League while still good is where our old, sick (dog wankers) and unwanted go. Its good to see more talent coming over here though, they will get better thus making world cups and international matches that much better.

I think the important thing is it will stem the losses to other codes, increase the likelihood of other codes switching to NRL (Quade Cooper comes to mind) and increase the depth within clubs which should help with injury

Wow some of the worst reffing i've seen all year in the Broncos Panthers game, just give the whistle to the crowd if you're gonna blow shit.

Peter Wallace is fuckin garbage.

That was such a frustrating game.
Ref really was terrible. Didn't effect the result though. Brisbane couldn't beat an U12s side last night.

I originally thought the NSW team was a little bit hilarious. Not picking Hayne in particular.
However, upon further thought it is probably the best team NSW has named in a few years.

I don't think they will win.. but if Queensland doesn't put in 100%, they have a chance.

Hayne is a good player but he is out of form and has a poor attitude. I also think it's a good move as last year the team stopped playing, waiting for Hayne to do something (still on the hype of his insane 09 form).

so yeah state of origin boys... does nsw have a chance? will their bring back the biff motto help them win? lol

it does look more evenly balanced than last year... sortve

Hayne had to be picked. I have been very critical of him over the years but he would still be one of the first players picked for me. He managed to be our best player whilst on the wing which is pretty insane.

Also i don't buy into the talk that he is out of form. If anything he has managed to show quite a bit this year (look at hes line break assists compared to other top play makers) despite parra being a rabble.

Last week he created every single line break for them.

King was a terrible selection. Tolman was a must and i just can't see how he was left out. He is the form prop of the comp and he has consistently outplayed other origin hopefuls (from both states) when given the chance this year.

Jennings is possibly the worst selection in origin history. Not only has he been in shocking form this year (scored no tries and was basically a laughing stock for the first few weeks) but he is also injured.

What more can Idris do? Not only is he in great form but he has run over most of the QLD outside backs this year (including Inglis our supposedly most feared player). His one weakness is hes defense but Jennings is a liability there as well.

As for the crap about not wanting him swtiching sides give me a break. It wouldn't have affected him at all.

Those are the really poor selections then there are the ones i just personally disagree with.

Firstly i think Farah is a better player than Young and Ennis combined. I don't think he has been given a fair go and NSW have wasted his talent thus far. QLD must be laughing at the gaping chasm between Cameron Smith and these 2.

Creagh has done enough to get there but i think his career for NSW has been terrible. There are a few plays in particular which have left me disappointed (like standing back when he should be competing for the ball).

I don't think Scott deserves to be anywhere near a rep team.

I think Dugan has been average in the few games his played (his limited game time is a concern as well). With no Gordon i guess options were limited.

We needed to pick Luke Lewis he is pretty close to our best 2nd rower at the moment. The excuse of injuries doesn't wash as he is currently playing unlike Jennings and King.

Morris has been average yet again. If NSW didn't want Hayne at fullback he should have walked in over Morris.

Bird has also been quiet this year (like much of our team).

I also probably would have picked Mullen but that is a really tough choice.

Overall i still think we have a chance. I don't think QLD team has been that far ahead each year despite how poor NSW's teams have been.

Edit: That was longer than i thought lol

His form is poor by his standards but is still well above other players we picked. It's not his fault that the other players in the NSW team wanted to try and sit back and watch whilst Hayne piggy backed them.

They should be dropped not him.

Good game. LOL at Gallon "they got away with stuff and we should have laid on them longer" dude was slamming peoples head into the ground after the tackle.

I nearly spit out my drink when he said that.

i was at state of origin tonight. i didn't really understand what was going on, but i love watching sporting events live. the atmosphere is something else.

now on the train drunk and slightly high on firecrackers heading home. fuck this 50 minute train ride. can't wait till i live in the valley again. less than 2 weeks!

Ohhhh man, I was kinda secretly hoping blues would win just so there'd be some competitiveness back again cause I was starting to get sick of winning... then bam, origin actually starts and I can't stand the thought of lose to those cockaroaches and want to see them buried. Love origin, love the maroons GO QUEENSLAND!

Dont forget to tip mofos. Last week was ALL home teams....... this weeks got a away team feel to it...... besides Tigers Knights...... so dont tip and you might get all away teams ;)

Can't work out why Canberra are favourites against the Cowboys.
Only game where I am tipping against the odds.

True, didn't really think about that. Penrith haven't been fantastic either, so that one is less confusing.
