Until the gas boom is over and, if they do it wrong, nothing will be left except crime, massive pollution, and environmental scars.

Agriculture is still #1 and lots of high tech companies like Amazon and Microsoft have been moving in. Oil can't be everything in ND that leads to contentment - what about Alaska, Texas and California?

I was damn sure PA would cut it. Can't imagine how shitty those states must be to beat us out.

Ohio certainly isn't a southern state, and I doubt it's any more religious than the nation is a whole.

Need I mention that the top 3 happiest states are all ruby red, too?

Ohio is very religious and conservation in the southern parts, and really anywhere outside a city. Cincinnati is an extremely red city.

They have a creationist museum right across the border and it's heavily advertised in Ohio, what more do you want?

I don't understand. [thread=669241]Kentucky is home to hentai and fried chicken[/thread]. They should be one of the happiest places on Earth let alone the US of A.

Who would be content with Montana, Nebraska, South Dakota, or North Dakota? You can be a cattle driver. Congratulations, that's your highest career prospect.
Perhaps a living based on hard work and being outdoors could make one more content than the drudgery of "modern" life? Just a thought...

My wife was in Montana for six months for a job last year. I loved going to visit.

FYI, the Western part of Montana is where it's at. The Eastern side, while somewhat pretty, has fuck all to do

Stupid Northern and Southern Ohio always bring us Central Ohioans down.

Definitely not as much as some of the states on the list.

And i'm saddened to see it listed...we have a lot of good stuff going for us...I think our dissatisfaction is inflated by the Cleveland sports curse.

Ohio has always been cast as the backwoods of New England/Northeast since it became the first step in the frontier. It's an old, old stigma that Ohio can't seem to shake.

Damn I didn't realize my state was so miserable, I enjoy living in KY, but i'm right across from Cincinnati so I have alot of things to do(parks, zoo, museums, kings island, sporting events, etc..) not sure if I would enjoy living further south, but I do enjoy my trips to louisville when i go /shrug

Not really true. Northwest has UA for partying. There's also fishing and hiking. Not saying it's great, but there are options. That being said, not surprised at any of the list.
no he is right, i grew up there.

As for Ohio, from a political perspective, we've been gerrymandered into Republican hell when it comes to political representation.

Wow number 2. It isn't THAT bad here but I do live in one of the larger cities whereas the rest of the state tends to cook meth.

I also concur that from the limited time I spent in Colorado, it is pretty awesome.

I live in Minnesota. I'm pretty friggin' content.

I also happen to be a Packer fan living in MN, which gives me extra happy points.

Ohio isn't actually that bad outside of the winters if you live in the Columbus area. It was voted the best place to raise a family, be a single mother, and I also believe that it was voted as one of the top 7 intelligent cities in the world.

Some first hand observations:

Tennessee - everybody thinks they are cowboys. Guns and trucks are prevalent and meth too....

Kentucky - everybody smokes. In restaurants, even!

Lived most my life in Minnesota..... enjoy it here (this winter SUUUCKED) and I lived for 2 years in Arkansas. I moved back to Minnesota so I agree with both lists.

You SOB.. get yourself over to Wisc. Stop Takin Our Jooooooobs!

As someone who recently moved from Tennessee to Ohio, I can say that I do indeed feel slightly more miserable, if only because of this shitty fucking winter.

Was the thread title a joke? Obviously those states will be more miserable; the economic conditions are worse in those states.

no jersey or michigan, that's interesting

Being in SW Michigan, of the states in the bottom 10 there's not a single one I'd rather live in. Several other states that are ranked better than Michigan that I wouldn't prefer to live in either. If this was a vote on most miserable cities I'd expect to see a few Michigan staples on there, but it's really not so bad otherwise.

I'd rather die than live in the Upper Peninsula though.

I can attest to Ohio being pretty miserable. Steaming hot in the summer, bitter cold in the winter, and cloudy skies for over 2/3 of the year.

Yay Ohio...

I'm actually a Wisconsin native that moved to MN a few years ago. Considering the progress this state is making, and how backwards Wisconsin is going, I think I'm fine right here thank you very much. :P

Wisconsin should be on that list. I work customer service for a few Midwest states, and let's just say that Wisconsin customers have a reputation.

Ohio should be number 1. The only fun place we have is Cedar Point.

That makes no sense. Do any of the other states in the list even have something as good as Cedar Point?

Not that Cedar Point even matters at all.

Ohio is a miserable shithole because of the erratic weather patterns, but Columbus is a great place to spend time.

Columbus is bland, with only a fraction of the cool places Cleveland has.

They are poor, religious, uneducated, and conservative states with shitty politicians.

That is not surprising at all.

Ohio is a bombed out and depleted shell of a state. Most major industry left or dried up with the exception of Wright-Patterson and some auto and manufacturing, and Columbus is probably the only bright spot. Public education facilities are right behind or tied with West Virginia.

Glad I left.

Obviously Florida is so far into the number 1 space that they didn't bother listing it right?
RIGHT?
