Native Twitch support announced for PS4

I was going to ignore the share button but then Sony goes and adds Twitch support. Sony is absolutely killing it!

I am really curious how the eye will integrated into this....If it can easily capture faces while streaming then I will be picking one up.

I guess this means tons of day 1 COD Ghost and BF4 streams from Xbone and PS4. Too bad Capcom isn't porting USF4 to next gen. It would have been fun to stream GAF sessions when someone like Kadey or jlai isn't around.

Of course they would. Capcom whores EVERYTHING, nothing is ever sacred.

dude make a thread on shoryuken to get some support and tweet Ono. I am selling my ps3 for ps4. I really want usf4 on next gen, especially since we have no fighting games on ps4. It would be really easy to port as well.

I thought Twitch was exclusive at an OS level with Xbox One. Good news.

I like this post.

Lawyers embedded directly within the Xbox One hypervisor operating system cut the streaming deal with Twitch.

Sony must have lawyered to the metal.

PS4 doing 180's.

Show me where they said they weren't going to have Twitch.

Edit: Shit, didn't notice he was banned. Sorry.

Check the Gamescom video with Shuhei watching someone else's Killzone stream. In the upper right hand corner, you can see the player's face with his headset on.

This surprised me. I never understood the whole Ustream thing anyway, simply because SOE used to use Ustream for PlanetSide 2 video but moved to Twitch because it was more stable.

Then this is another reason why PS4 will reign supreme. I can see a stream of Let's Play... channels starting up. That can only be a good thing.

I think I read somewhere that Ustream is much more popular in asian territories. I could be mistken though its been a long day. If that is the case it makes sense for Sony to have both. I suspect that twitch was a reaction to E3 though as quite a few people grilled them on why they did not have Twitch intergration.

Eh, I'm not the guy to start a campaign to port the game. But I would buy it in a heartbeat if it were ported. I have almost every version of this game from all 3 platforms. Right now I mainly play on PC though and it's hard to go back to console because of how much better it looks on PC. That's honestly why I want the PS4 port the most. So we can play the game in 1080p with improved textures, AA, and everything else.

So we can stream live, but can we record and save videos?

Twitch records everything you stream I believe. But I think you'll have to go to the Twitch site and log in to your account to access that. I doubt it will to be saved to the PS4 HDD

Thanks, had seen the show before but hadn't noticed it being confirmed. Ustream, Twitch and YouTube are supported. I wonder if they'll add Vevo too? I think that's the last of the big ones and Sony own it so I'd be really surprised if they don't.
I thought Vevo was just a music video service?

RIP in peace UStream

Yay, was waiting for Kappa.

This and Minecraft just made things REALLY interesting on PS4.

Yup, two minor announcements that actually make a huge difference when it comes to streaming popularity (because Twitch >>>>> every other streaming service for gaming) and mainstream attraction (because Minecraft is big enough now to rival games like CoD and FIFA (in Europe) when it comes to playing an important role in which console people, especially children and uninformed adults, will buy. Microsoft having exclusive rights to it next-gen would've been very bad news for Sony).

Now Sony only needs to make sure the PS4's online services and graphics are equal to or better than those of the One when it comes to games like CoD and FIFA, that was the biggest reason people only playing games like those chose the Xbox 360 over the PS3 sometimes.

I was really glad to hear this yesterday. It's awesome the PS4 is gonna have the option of Ustream and Twitch, in case it turns out one is working better than the other, etc.

My thought on giving everyone the ability to stream is this:

Won't this make it more difficult for established or up and coming streamers to stand out? Won't Twitch be flooded by content that is of varying standard?

missed this early - considering how much ive been watching twitch over the last year (tourneys, speedruns & summer games done quick etc) this is really cool to hear, glad they're aiding the streamers this way

This is great, not having Twitch streaming would have been a mistake. Is Ustream still an option? Probably, would be weird if it was simply dropped after having been announced as a streaming partner back in February. But I don't know who would choose it. Twitch is where you stream games, that's just how it is.

I think the camera can show you while you're streaming if you wish, picture-in-picture.

Has anyone stated how they are encoding to Twitch? Is the encoding being done in the cloud as some sort of Sony service or is the AMD PS4 chip doing the work? I guess my concern is losing fps.

I'm assuming it's going to be similar to what Sony is using to encode it with Remote Play, they have dedicated hardware in the device to do so.

Maybe Twitch will finally get their shit together and let streams run smoothly for once. I constantly get "your stream appears to be stuttering" errors regardless of what quality I choose even though I have a decent download speed.

Who am I kidding, it'll probably get worse.
