Navy doctor let kids hold dead Marine's brain

Oh please, you'd have to eat it, not just handle it, and eating human brains gives you Kuru. Geesh man, learn your prion diseases (and disease vectors!).

Well excuse me for not specifying the disease vector!

And Kuru is not CJD, it's a specific type of prion disease located only in New Guinea. DUH!

*sigh* yes, Kuru is not CJD, but you're talking about getting a prion disease from brain tissue, which would more likely present as Kuru, not CJD. Though if you'd like to argue more about which would be more likely from eating a marine's brain.....

I don't see what the big deal is, it's not like it's hurting anybody. A dead brain is just a piece of non-functioning organic matter.

Would you really be okay with some kids playing with the brain of your mother or father without your permission?

I don't think I ever touched a brain... maybe a pig brain in High School Biology but it was a pig fetus so it would of been tiny.

Yeah, I dunno. There's not enough info to say whether it was completely dumb, just disrespectful, or ok.
Yep.
As easily as it could have been done to educate his children, it could have easily gone down like this:
Guy brings brains home while in-route to their destination.
Kids: Dad, what's that you have with you?
Dad: Aww, just some dude's brains from work.
Kids: Ewww, gross! Can we see them?
Dad: See them? Fuck, you can hold 'em if you want. Ma, get the camera!

Well at least he didn't stick his dick into it. Think positive.
Hey, c'mon man! It's just inanimate, non-functioning organic matter!

Why is the assumption that he was educating them?

What's the alternative? HEY KIDS WANNA SEE SOMETHING COOOOOOOOOOOOL?

I mean, it's possible a doctor could be that incredibly stupid AND his wife would be equally stupid to think that's the case...or they genuinely thought the kids would like and learn from it.

He's stupid enough to take pictures of him and his kids illegally handling remains that he's transporting for an examination so.........not sure why you'd give him the benefit of the doubt.

Wait, are you betting against stupidity?

He also didn't get command approval for his second job or even let them know he was moonlighting.
Seems like a guy who does whatever he wants.

The only thing wrong with this is that the doctor didn't do this through the right channels or process.

I have to agree with this. I don't think it's all that fucked up if it was for educational purposes (letting your kid touch a brain, that is). The way he did it though was pretty damn stupid.
