NBA 2K10 introducing dynamic commentary

YES

YES

FUCKING YES

For fucking YEARS I've begged for this. YEARS.

Please, please, PLEASE come to the next NCAA football game in some capacity.

EDIT: It also helps that the NBA 2K series is excellent, so I'll have absolutely no problems picking this up

I don't really see the big deal...

A sports ticker or stat overlay does the same thing. And when I'm playing in franchise it doesn't really make sense. Really only works for exhibition games or online play I guess.

Although if other people really like the idea more power to them I guess.

That is so cool.

I hope they throw in some generic commentary so commentators can pull from your games as well. They do this in a very limited fashion in all sports games, but I'd like it to be a bit more specific.

If my shooting guard goes off and, after half a season of being quiet, suddenly scored 75 points in an underdog victory, I'd like the commentators to talk about it for games to come.

So we'll hear phrases like "Kobe Bryant<awkard pause> had <awkward pause> 60 <awkward pause> points in a game earlier this week."

Edit: not trying to slam this feature. If they could simply make the transitions from the dynamic parts to the pre-recorded parts smoother, it would make a world of difference.

I don't think you understand how this works.

It's not comments they make about YOUR franchise, it's comments they make about the franchise YOU'RE PLAYING AGAINST.

Taking the Kobe example further, say you're playing the Lakers a few days after Kobe goes off. The commentators will pull from his real life game as part of filler commentary. "Kobe really showed he can take over a game last week at Dallas when he scored 60 in that victory, so don't count the lakers out just yet" or "Kobe has been in foul trouble in the last 6 games, will that be a factor tonight?"

Combine this with 2K's player DNA, and it could make for a very dynamic season mode.

But does it have 4000 different types of sneakers and let you dribble in place?

It's always painfully obvious which trolls don't watch sports or play sports games.

I don't like basketball that much, but I hope this feature makes it into every major sports franchise and soon.

This will mean nothing unless they cleaned up Calrk Kellogg's fucking HORRIBLE delivery of his lines. He never sounded natural. EVER. When making comments about the game or last season, it was obvious he was reading. His tone of voice, the way he says everything, does not sound like a broadcast at all. Not a big fan of Kevin Harlan's delivery, but he at least has a more broadcast sounding voice. His delivery is also lacking, and is very robotic.

The worst is when Kevin goes "So what's your impression of the action so far Clark?" and Clark says "My impression is 'Wow', they are really running their offense" or some shit like that. I've never heard a commentator say that, ever. I really hope they fix the OVERALL problems with the commentary or this "Dynamic" commentary will be pointless. It's encouraging that they are at least paying attention to the commentary, so I can be hopeful.

The way I understand it is it's commeting on what a player did in real life. But if the player didn't actually score 60 points in my franchise last night it seems like a weird comment to make. I totally understand how it's a good idea in exhibition or regular season play where there is no history to speak off. It's based on the idea of your playing whatever the current stats are. Since I'm mainly a franchise player though I don't understand the appeal from my perspective unless I'm missing something. Of course if somebody is big into the other modes they are free to love the idea or love the idea in general for whatever reasons.

Edit: Removed the troll bits. I thought you were referencing me.

There was a report from Operation Sports that already talked about this last week I think.

They mention that the commentary will pull info from real life during exhibition and online games but during franchise mode it will actually incorporate stuff that happens throughout your franchise season.

Edit:
Here it is: http://www.operationsports.com/feature.php?id=933

-The commentary you hear in Association mode is dynamic. So while quick games/NBA Today will be based on real life, the commentary duo will talk about trades that occurred in your Association mode or any other things that happened in your Association, not real life.

But you don't understand, now its DYNAMIC Kevin Harlan and Clark Kellogg

"So what's your impression of Kobe's game last night?"

"My impression is 'Wow', he is really running his offense!"

Keith Jackson, in his late, senile years would say shit like that :lol

I wonder who writes the lines the commentators speak? Because they really need to punch it up.

I was talking about Live. Some dudes in the NBA thread are hyping shit like shoes and player tats as big features and innovations.

I got your point the first time, and I agree. It's a stupid feature if you're in the middle of a franchise, and the commentators say something totally unrelated. . Kobe scored 60 last night? Not according to the box score I'm viewing in my franchise. It would just seem off.

Yes, but "dribble in place"?

Uh... you mean like crossing up? Because thats an integral part of basketball. So of course they do. And it actually is a big feature in the 2K series.

The games you didn't see are simulated, right? Didn't the last 2K basketball game already sync up scores with real life scores if they were simulated?

Read my post a few ways up, during Association they will talk only about what happens during your franchise.

edit: Nevermind, you did :)

The dribble moves in Live. You hold a trigger and just dribble. Shit is innovative and why Live will finally win.

Well thinking on it, I can see where a lot of GAF probably plays online games and in that context combined with dynamic stats if makes sense for people who play those modes. So I retract a bit of my, I don't see the big deal attitude. It's just that I play a lot of franchise mode. But if the commentary can refer back to prior performance in the franchise mode that would work for me.

aaand none of this will matter if the game plays the same as it has the last 2 years. Show us some damn gameplay, atleast Live ( the video on gametrailers is pretty good, but I won't get fooled again...) has shown us what they got.

I find it funny that people bash EA for not trying but lets 2k put out basically the same game 2 years in a row with small changes.

This has potential to be a nice feature, and it'll certainly be an improvement over the commentary from previous games. But if they're going all out with this, I rather they bring on the team of Dan Stevens and Peter O'Keefe since the non-celeb team would allow them to record a lot more dialogue. Just look at how much better APF/NFL 2K is than Madden in that department.

HES JUST TOO GOOD KEVIN. RIGHT NOW THEY NEED TO BRING A SECOND DEFENDER AND TRY TO MAKE HIM GIVE UP THE BALL.

Hey hey buddy, its DYNAMIC now!

"Kobe was just too good last night, Kevin! They should have brought in a second defender and try to make him give up the ball!"

I hope not because that sounds like a really stupid feature.

Very true. No commentary in any sports game has equalled the NFL 2k days for me in humour or sound or feeling like actual annoucing. And a large part of that is because they were just actors who they could bring in for longer and cheaper. I hate that "realism" dictates you have to use name personalities in sports games.

Since this is the latest 2K10 thread: http://sports.espn.go.com/videogames/news/story?id=4434894
When the "NBA 2K10" producers announced that they were lowering the player ratings in their game across the board to better separate the superstars you cheer from the bench players doing all the cheering, all you had to do was look at Jerome James and his embarrassing 42 overall rating to know they weren't messing around. Other casualties of the ratings game include Adam Morrison (crashing hard to a 55 overall) and even former 2K Sports spokesman J.J. Redick, who despite showing some flashes in the postseason, drops to a 52.

But the change in philosophy over the ratings isn't the only aspect 2K Sports was looking to adjust; in speaking to the game designers, they look back to "NBA 2K7" as still being the best in franchise history. "When fans talk about 'NBA 2K,' they always go back to '2K7,'" says producer Rob Jones. "After they see what we've done with 'NBA 2K10,' they won't need to talk about any of our older games. '2K10' is going to be the game everyone talks about from now on."

...

2K Sports credits its relationship with 82games.com (a leading statistics and basketball analytics site) for helping producers further push everything from player tendencies to the proper positioning on court to help give "2K10" a more realistic feel. The game is now tracking 36 additional tendencies per player, breaking down not only how these players attack the basket, but how their teammates behave.

And the results are incredible.

Playing against the computer, I saw some of the most authentic ball movement I've ever seen from a CPU-controlled opponent.
Players were hitting cutters slashing toward the basket, setting picks away from the ball to open up shooters, playing the inside-out game to set up the 3, and the post moves have been tuned to a point that would make even The Dream jealous. We're talking shimmy shakes, pump fakes, hooks, pivots and up-and-unders all controlled by various taps of the right analog stick.

Awesome.

I can't wait to hear it:

"It's not surprising that BRYANT is having a game like this, after his EIGHTY ONE point outburst against the RAPTORS last night!"

:lol

Every sports game needs to do this.
I'm loving Madden 10 but I have to play with the commentators turned off because I'll break the disc if I hear Collinsworth make the exact same comments one more time.
