NBA 2K14 First Look on PS4 Coming Monday

OPEzYF2.png

In the beginning of the trailer Lebron vaporizing into the 3D model. I figured as much, but it's not entirely accurate because of the setting and post processing effects.

Still neat.

Come on Ronnie, you know what we mean by gameplay.

8GB doesn't have anything to do with it. It's just a cut corner in development.

Hope in the next engine they go with a procedurally generated crowd. But we've still come a long way from the confetti or sprite-based crowds of yester year. I want to see some canned sequences of crowd close-ups to make it feel more alive. Like when you hit a game winning shot on the road and they show a close up with the crowd silent with dejected looks on their faces.

Like the Houston Texans fans yesterday who watched Matt Schaub gift the most overrated team in football, the Seahawks, with a W.

Going to preorder this for xbone I think. Should be good to play this instead of FIFA I think. EA just doesn't care enough. I wish they would make 2K soccer...

Graphics look good. The clothe physics are really nice.

My only issue is that Lin and Parsons don't look anything like themselves. I'm not talking about that picture, in the video when Lin turned around it didn't look like him much.

I feel like at least the 5 starters for every team should have their likeness nailed. It isn't like FIFA where there's a bunch of teams and thousands of players to do.

So that's my complaint.

seems like some people are more interested in what the fans look like than the gameplay... must really piss them off when they watch nba on tv and the camera doesn't just zoom in on the front row the entire game

that said it looks ok i guess they didnt show much i really only care about gameplay as i expect it to look great... im sure it will be the same as the nba game for the ps4/360 just better looking which would disappoint me

I want the lady who was screaming at a very high pitch/decible level during the playoffs RIGHT BEHIND the commentators. That would be realistic.

I'm not sure what the point of buying these games are anymore. They all have the exact same cheating mechanisms. You are basically playing against cheats that some game designer implemented in the game. It's not basketball, its exploitation of someones dumb balancing scheme.

As I only have a PS3 and a Wii U I am skipping this. Going to get a PC but will just skip this one this year. I have still so much left to squeeze out of NBA 2K13.

What Ronnie is talking about is everytime that red shit goes over Lebron's body, thats his virtual self doing that move.

Wow just saw the commercial during MNF and wow without the youtube compression this game is beautiful. I'm playing it back and watching over and over.

lol, harden closing his eyes going for the layup.....but that face model is insane.....gosh 2k14 next gen is going to be awesome!

Blech. I was hoping we were gonna get to see like a minute of what the game will look like when we're actually playing it. Not this sizzle reel garbage.

I'm buying a game. Not a celebrity. Not a soundtrack. A game, goddammit!

The facial animation on Harden is pretty damn nice. The look of "oh shit a layup??" when his eyebrows go up and his mouth opens.

the first 5 secs with lebron where amazing, the rest looked like crap to me

Daaaaaaaaayum.

Why isn't PC version next gen?

2k: "because fuck you that's why. you're going to pay retail and you're going to like it."

a user from the 2k forums apparently has the game already.

I just picked up my copy and have only got to enjoy a single game. I will not be going into MyPlayer/MyCareer or anything and MyTeam and other modes are not functioning. However, I will be playing standard games and give impressions only on gameplay. Feel free to ask questions on gameplay only. I work 3rd shift tonight, so we'll have to wait until Saturday morning and evening before I can answer.

Gameplay

I know what you're asking. How different is the game over 2K13? Guys, I don't know how to say this in words, but the game plays entirely different. It actually feels like a basketball game. One of 2K's weakness has been in the controls, and though I've played one game, they have nailed it. You push left...you move left...you push right...you move right. The passing feels so good. The right stick blending of moves and shots is genius (though takes some time getting used to). The defense of side is probably the most beautiful upgrade. Yes, you can stay on your defender. Yes, you can make a defensive presence when someone is directly under the basket. No, nothing feels like it is automatically done for you. It literally feels like you're in complete control. You are not going to see this through gameplay videos. You have to play it to get it. It is obvious that the development team focused on the gameplay.

Offense - things I noticed

The new controls allows you to control pretty much everything in a seamless transition. When you do your first move to blow by a defender with the R stick, then hold the R stick to begin a layup/dunk, and then hold down the L trigger and press the stick in a receiving player direction, then hold it to take a shot, it really feels freakin' good. It does not feel like a gimmick.

Passing around the court no longer feels slow. It is the best the passing has ever felt in the series. Again, I can't explain it as it is a "feel thing".

You will have to relearn the game. Many dribble functions have changed in execution (the half spin is now just - move stick from ball hand then toward basket). This makes it much more accurate and quicker to execute.

Defense

Defensive control is now smooth. No more do you feel like you're fighting the sliding routing.

CPU defenders react much smarter. Players weren't getting stuck into other players leaving easy drives to the basket.

The contact in the paint is absolutely amazing. It didn't matter if it was just a touch contact...contact happened...this means defenders no longer would slide away with the ball handler unaffected.

The ball feels like a refined version of "live ball" from 2K12. It will pop out of hands with too much contact while dribbling. It will be fumbled (not that fumble animation from using lead passing like 2K12 and 2K13, but actually fumbled with more physics involved).

Some quick info on online

ranked matches are now 6 minute quarters
Leaderboards now have leaders for records
No lobbies

according to leaderboards and my rounding

FG% average is around 53%
3PT% average is around 34%

----------------------

To end...this game plays absolutely nothing like 2K13. I know there will be doubters, but when you play it and actually feel it, 2K13 will feel even more slow and sluggish. I promise you this. Also, do learn the new controls.

The gameplay in 2K14 is a huge leap from 2K13. In fact, the leap is bigger than 2K12 to 2K13, and 2K10 to 2K11. I know this is hard to believe, but it is true.

hmmm..whatever. pc is just current gen port
