NBA 2k14 Press event video gameplay

just as i expected NO way Wii U could run this game.
Actually I was expecting this but that's not the case. You'd lose the resolution and the extra clarity, but playing it off TV on the GamePad you'd still be playing a good looking game, with the same gameplay. I don't see any mind blowing physics leap, do you?

I'm telling you guys, these stupid gaming website video players (besides Gamersyde) will be the DEATH of our next gen excitement!

ARGH!!!!

Shit res, but it moves pretty well. I really wish they'd work on hand and finger animations. I know it sounds trivial, but shitty hand animations always seem to really break the immersion for me, haha.

Definitely amazing to think this is what the launch games look like. That was very impressive even if the Gamespot guy was trying to sell the gameplay short due to his inability to play the game correctly.

I need to see another video, from this the gameplay itself doesn't look too much changed. The game is gorgeous nevertheless. But I'm less tempted by it.

games like this are starting to look real, by year 4-5 of next gen I think some parents are going to have difficulty noticing the difference without putting there glasses on.

I know 10/10 for Hyperbole.

Gamersyde pls help us.

Looks great though, the player movement is different to the current PC game. Reflections look great. I'm hyped.

Seems like a little thing but... is this the first fully rendered audience in a sports game? If so, we've been waiting a long time for that. Cool.

maybe next year 2k will work on animations and actual collision. bosh patting bron at the end of the video, holy hoverhand batman!

I noticed that too, and jerseys still are a bit floaty on top of bodies. Gets a pass this year since it's a launch game so i guess people will be more forgiving. Next year though is going to be interesting, the 2k community is ruthless, they wont let things like that slide.

I'm getting the game

but aside from the lighting and textures this is a PS3/360 port. All the jank animations are still in the game, players still look wooden and robotic, players also catch the ball super weird.

Its time for a new engine - hopefully we'll get one next year. Its understandable that they probably only had 9 months to work on the game.

That video player is just as bad as IGN's or GT's. What is wrong with these gaming sites and their horrible video streams my god. From that video it does look a step up from current gen but honestly with that video quality it's better to wait for better footage from somewhere else before I form a proper impression. The list of improvements to the engine that I saw earlier is massive though and hopefully that translates to better gameplay.

EDIT: Here's the list of bullet points taken from the event just in case you haven't seen it :) http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showpost.php?p=87215023&postcount=274

don't blame the video player guys. this is the same graphics engine with a few updates.
that's not the next gen graphics I was expecting

Already happened. My mother, who is a huge football fan, thinks Fifa on the 360 is real lol.

Fifa 14 does it.

With their heavily compressed garbage, how is anyone supposed to tell anything about improved visuals:

Tons of detail is lost up close, so it's no wonder it looks like blurred nonsense from a far. Similar reactions happened in The Order thread until Gamersyde screenshots showed up...

honestly, I think someone needs to start a new thread highlighting how shit the web players are on most sites, so people stop jumping to awful conclusions about games like this, COD Ghost, etc.

these horribly compressed 30 fps videos are quite literally leaching all of the next genness out of these titles.

that's not the next gen graphics I was expecting

Of course we should blame the video player. It's dogshit and not representing the quality we can expect from these games. As told by the fact that when Blim posts any video it looks markibly better than these players.

a better video player wont hide the fact that its the same engine. with the same pros and cons that we got this last gen.

I think you can see it is a very good looking game even with this kind of video compression. The general look, the lighting, the crowds, the reflections, all point to that. The issues are not in this area.

Great. Servers are going to be crowded with people that just bought the game for the look and don't know how to play. Leaving me left with people that quit in the first quarter against me when they're down by just 10.

You see things that are obvious improvements to the A.I.

1. LeBron tried to drive into the paint, once he was stopped, instead of doing spins and crossovers on a brick wall until he did layup , he actually passed the ball and reset. Same with Chalmers, once he was stopped, he kicked it up to Bosh, who quickly swung it to LeBron for the open 3.

2. Steph Curry after the pick on the initial play was a thing of beauty. Miami played that defensive possession perfectly. Denying him the lane, and any passing lanes, causing Curry to back out and reset.

It that video you get too see the CPU A.I. at work, which isn't no near the bulldozing A.I. in current gen, they are actually using basketball principles.

I recognize a fellow OSer is here! I noticed bogut's pick was really really good. That pick looked fundamentally sound (foot planting?). Also great observation with lebron. Current gen 2k14 certainly falls into that trap and results in a really bad flowing game. Hopefully that possession is the norm on next gen!

Not blown away really.

Knew it wouldn't have as much of an impact as the initial trailers when we saw actual gameplay.

Nowhere near the leap 2k6 was back in the day...

For Those who are saying it doesn't look like the trailer, Operation sports member who attended the event had this to say.

"Let's start with the graphics. The game looks exactly like (if not better) than the trailer. 2K face mapped damn near every NBA player in the league. Guys like Lebron and Kobe look exactly like their real life counterparts but that's expected. What I didn't expect was that guys like Joel Anthony and Festus Ezeli would look amazing. The faces and the lighting and details of each arena jump out as the most improved aspects of the game to you."

With that said, the graphical improvements are less prominent when you are playing the game in broadcast mode. Don't get me wrong, the game still looks great, but I can see many people complaining that they don't see a huge difference from current gen when actually playing the game versus in replays.

I tried to find a video with both Warriors and Heat, at the Americal Airlines Center on current gen, for a good comparison.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=inmPVUGrhTc

This is the first one I found. Later, if possible, I'll post other videos.

Alright, even with the garbage Gamespot video player, it's IMMEDIATELY clear that the next gen version looks leagues better than the current gen one. Model quality, physics, animations, lighting, reflections, all far, far better.

Between the crowd, skin shaders, lighting, and cloth effects, I'm really astounded.
Really wish the PC versions of Fifa 14 and this were the PS4 versions. Gotta wait another year though argh.

It has to, Sports Games need to be a simulation of the real thing to be taken serious,
I hate "gamey" looking sports games unless it is something Arcadish by default like NBA Street.

The current generation video looks like a PSP version compared to the PS4 one. This is the game that is actually making me consider selling my pre-order away.

might be the player, but it doesn't look that much better than what these games look on pc. I think i was expecting a bit more, but it still looks mighty fine, so i'm good. :D
