NBA finals were seriously underwhelming this year

(nods) yeah, that's it. :)

That is nice.

I don't like watching the Spurs.

They crushed a team that didn't show up, and even if the team had showed up, they probably still would have ground them down into a chunky, chalky dust, which is also not all that fun to watch. The finals were lackluster because the Spurs possess no luster. They are a great team. I just don't like watching 'em play.

See, this phrase makes me think you haven't watched the Spurs since 2003.

I WANNA SEE DUNKS! AND BLOCKS! LIKE THE CLIPS! AND ROCKETS!

Not this horseshit!

I love basketball.

The Spurs are fucking boring to watch. Always have been.

I can recognize their methodical application of pure fundamentals and precision team play while simultaneously recognizing that it's as fun to watch as yawning.

The two are not mutually exclusive.

The Spurs are fucking boring to watch. Always have been.

Not the Spurs fault Miami couldn't keep up. SA played beautiful basketball all year. Just watching that ball movement makes my dick hard. Fuck iso-ball...

Yeah, I mean I would totally rather watch the Thunder or Melo hold the ball in Iso for 15 seconds before chucking a shitty jumper or throwing themselves at the defender hoping for a foul. Precision passing, great off the ball movement, dagger threes, and elite defense aren't even real basketball.
The iso game that teams like the Heat play is so awful. Then when 2 out of the 3 max contract guys lay eggs it becomes the other guys on the roster's fault.

I covered the NBA for my alt-weekly for two fuckin years ending in 2013. :)

It's possible to like basketball, like the NBA, and enjoy the game and still not like the Spurs. The fact I describe their opponents as being ground down isn't evidence of anything but the fact I like overheated metaphor.

Nah. Spurs are the most fun team to watch. They literally have an offense no other team in the league can replicate. They score at a pretty good clip, too. Other teams look like they're running high school plays next to Spurs' frenetically paced carnival ride of an offense.

Heat lost

It couldn't be that bad.]

Good point.

It's not like I dig how the Heat play, either. :)

It's just everyone had such a throbbing priapism to prove they're a better basketball fan they're leaving mushroom prints all over their keyboard and jizzing gifs onto their tummies.

Of course it was boring it was a 5 game sweep. Every game was a blowout. Meanwhile the Stanley Cup Finals were like a 7 game series somehow condensed to 5. Like polar opposites.

I thought this NBA finals was great. Spurs played as a team and it was amazing to watch them play every night. The finals made up for what I thought was only an okay first round and semis. Plus, the Heat lost.

I don't really watch sports, but I watched a bit of the Finals and I loved watching the Spurs play. Like a damn well oiled machine, was actually quite fascinating. Just teamwork distilled.

The Spurs were awesome. Best display of pure basketball I've seen in a decade.

So what if Miami played the role of the Washington Generals?

Then what's your preferred basketball? My team are the Bulls, but I think they play such horrible basketball, I mean it gets the job done because before Thibs we were terrible but it's just not pretty to watch. If the Bulls played like the Spurs I'd be ecstatic, sadly they play this boring ultra defensive minded basketball that just turns me off, if it wasn't for Rose we would be the most boring basketball team in the NBA. As of now, without Rose I think we are.

I'm getting legitimately angry at some of the posts in this thread. The Spurs of the last 3ish years have been the most entertaining team in the nba, with the most beautiful offense and best team play.

If the finals are boring, blame the Heat. It's not the Spurs fault the rest of the NBA wasn't on their level. Of course it's boring when the finals looked like one team actually practiced and one team looked like a local pick up group.

Spurs are fun aas hell to watch. Isolation ball that most teams play is not. Dribble dribble dribble dribble shoot. Or dribble dribble dribble flail to get a call. Yawn.

It was really fun to watch the Heat get dismantled.

But yes, last years was far more entertaining. Full of drama. Ray fucking Allen man.

BS. The Spurs closed out two teams in the playoffs without their best player. No team was beating them this year. It was one of the most impressive playoff runs we've seen in a while.

I don't know about the most entertaining (I'd probably have go with Clippers on that one for obvious reasons), but they're so damn fundamental that it loops back around to being entertaining. See the gifs above.

Ok so what's an example of a team that you enjoy watching, and what specifically about the way they play excites you?

This was one of the more entertaining Finals in years. The Spurs put on a world class clinic with precise passing and clutch shooting.

If you are a fan of basketball at all, you have to admit their game was beautiful.

lol @ all the people thinking I'm hating on the spurs. I'm hating on the lopsidedness of the finals.

if you actually read thread you'll see I comment on how ridiculously amazing the spurs looked

After a while it became like watching Drago punch Apollo. The style was great would have been nice to have someone punching back every once in a while

exactly

meanwhile Stanley Cup Finals were on a whole other level

Mastery of the game >>> flashy highlights. Every damn time.

I love a good dunk, but ultimately two points is two points

It was exciting, but... I mean... it was pretty clear the Rangers were fucked

Spurs were indeed awesome, but to make a great series both teams have to bring it and that just didn't happen. The Heat folded like a cheap suit. So, great team effort (Spurs) but weak finals.

Pop as coach plus playing up the strengths of each individual player and exploiting the weaknesses of other teams, meant they were going to steam roll through. I can see where the boredom comes in but that's not a fault of the Spurs so much as other teams not stacking the fuck up.

Everything after the first round was pretty underwhelming this year imo. Which is weird, because the first round was absolutely fantastic and had a record 5 game 7's but then we didn't get any game 7's after that.

Disagree. Seeing the Spurs play as a true team was amazing. Leonard's three point streak was also amazing.

Plus it's always enjoyable to see last year's Champs get stomped. I loved it.

OP you've finally grown past the sports equivalent of a Michael Bay movie. Don't worry the NFL is almost here and the NHL will be back in October.

Greatest first round ever, easily.

Garbage conference semis and finals.

Very good NBA Finals.

Ginnoooooobiiliiiiii!
Damn I hate this guy more then any other. He crushed phoenix too many times in the playoffs, and that one year he smashed Nash in the nuts, and got amare suspended for takeing a step. Then you add in Timmys magically 3 pointer and fuck... At least dragic had that one crazy quarter where he scored 30 points on them.
