NBA LIVE 13 1st footage

They´ve been rehashing 2K7 ever since, which is a solid but not spetacular game.

I think the problem is that we don´t have 300-400 people capable of making a good basketball game in the game industry.

The ones with a grasp of what basketball is are already working for 2K.

EA turned Fifa around after numerous efforts, but they can´t do it with Live and i imagine it´s the lack of talent to make sports games.

EA also turned NHL around. They really need to work on NBA Live though and probably Madden as well.

EA should pull a 2K5 and release this for $20. It would be an interesting experiment!

Seems like they will be doing something similar to that:

...Looks like it will be a downloadable game.

Alpha/Beta footage? Right???

Looks that way. Missing menu music, the player models look janky (even compared to Elite), the fonts on their on-court names look bigger than they should be and it even sounds like there's some placeholder audio for JVG at the end.

I don't have any real feelings on Live either way, but it's clear this is an early build. Or at least I hope so.

Looks like shit, looks like the last NBA Live/Elite/whatever game that was released. Doesn't look fun. Players skate around, looks like a lot of moving your player and just trying to cheese to get to the hoop. But, IMO, basketball games are dead and have been dead for years. NBA 2K has made a tight game, but the core gameplay of basketball videogames just isn't good, although 2K Does a good job of making compelling modes.

Agreed with every point here. I don't think that there is enough talent in the game industry to make a fun playing, skillful basketball game. I think the game of basketball relies too much on subtle, precise moves, something that we're not capable of achieving yet with our level of understanding in video game basketball.

NBA 2K has gotten a lot of credit the last few years, and I think their modes are a good step, but the game has been pretty much the same since 2K7 -- more so even than other reiterative sports games. And, IMO, the game is still bland to play.

Spot on. Something is missing.

I love basketball to death, but i start playing 2K and it always seems like the game revolves around money plays, and it just doesn´t flow like a regular one.

Maybe i´m being just a pain in the ass, but NBA games still lack something. It´s just a meh experience even tough i play it every year.

The game has not been the same since 2K7, I played 2K10 the other day and it shocked me how much different game play is then 2K12, its faster and a lot easier to shoot and hit 3 pointers and get easy dunks. 2K12 the have to run plays a lot more or wait til your guys cut and get open for good looks, unlike in 2K10 where you can just pull up and hit shoots.

Going to have to strongly disagree. The game has changed a lot since 2K7.

Can understand if one doesn't like to play it but it definitely isn't the same.

There IS enough talent in the industry to make a AAA basketball game ... but its hard to find a reason to put in the effort.

2K doesnt need to. They completely own the market and make minor updates to a game that sells amazingly well. They probably have a skeleton crew that makes minor improvements every year. Yearly sports franchises are not a fun environment and year after year you can see that they dont create a lot of new art. the coaches look awful, the stadiums have little detail and the crowds havent changed in years. You can hope that next gen will make them start from scratch, but who knows. Right now they make maximum profit on minimum effort and they have 0 reasons to change that.

EA has the problem of resources and timing. FIFA, Madden and NHL are top tier, but I think theyre ramping up for next gen now and probably half assed this game because they saw that it would be too little, too late. My optimistic side tells me theyre putting their money and time on next gen, like they did with Fifa at the beginning of the generation (solid foundation with flawed gameplay that got redefined and iterated on)

Sorry but to say all 2K basketball games are the same since 2K7 just shows you're a clown. I don't play many other games besides sports games. The games graphics, gameplay, modes, ect has changed since 2K7. My only problem is they find some way to screw up the game some how and only make a couple patches for a game ppl paid $60 for.

EA's official statement, via Kotaku:

"The video appears to be captured from a pre-alpha build months ago and is not an official EA SPORTS release. It does not represent a final build or feature set for NBA Live."

Fat lot of help 2 years off did.

That's what they said when JESUS BYNUM hit the YouTubes, no? Something along those lines, anyway :lol

Can understand if one doesn't like to play it but it definitely isn't the same.

Animations were added and playcalling went from "terrible" to "mediocre". Game engine is the same (and it is a revamp from last gen), online is still the same mess and some modes were added.

I feel like a lot of bonuses were added, but the core gameplay stayed basically the same, only with fancy signature moves. I can´t see a game changing innovation after the first current gen 2k.

It is a game that you could have bought through a subscription system back in 2006, receiving updates as they go. I think sports games in general are going to this route in the near future.

EA should try something different with Live, to see if they can do something about it. Releasing for PS3/360 also sounds a bit stupid.

Better let them have a 3-4 year dev cycle to come up with a great game for next gen consoles.

How far back was months ago?

Because apparently the game wasn't looking too hot even in the June build.

Kotaku said:
Give credit where it's due. Roundly disparaged as a PR stunt and a rubber stamp, NBA Live's advisory council, a group of gamers convened in multiple expenses-paid trips, has honestly held this game's feet to the fire. After the hands-on in June, they flatly told EA Sports they shouldn't even have brought it to L.A. It's my understanding they're no happier with it today. Rumor, reported by ESPN, is that NBA Live was pulled back from EA's Summer Showcase this past week; the Advisory Council's disapproval likely figured in, though I can't say for sure. A no-show in British Columbia two weeks before may also be because the council wasn't giving a thumbs-up.

HAHAHA! No seriously? It looks near identical to the one they cancelled. The animations are hilarious, every player seems to have the same body type, all with their hunched back posture. I see rim physics haven't changed either.

I'm not even sure if 2K are laughing when they see this.

I don't like hyperbole statement like "lol looks like a PS1 game" or whatever. it's often stupid but i swear to god some of those animations and the overall jankiness looks worse than some PS2 basketball games.

Shame. 2K isn't coming for Vita and this is. I was hoping it would be decent just to have some portable bball. Guess not.

I don't know, I just find myself disagreeing with this. At least in regards to local play. There are so many things I'm focused on in the course of 2k gameplay on both sides of the ball that are completely similar to real basketball. Going over screens on good shooters, hedging off ball, making decisions on when to rock a zone, making sure I'm focused on boxing out when the ball goes up, rotations, when to foul and when not to....shit, it's a lot. I feel that 2k does a tremendous job of mimicking real life ball on the defensive end.

Offensively its a little tougher--subtle movements in regards to ball placement and things to create space are missing but 2k's most recent vid is even addressing that.

When you throw in latency things do become very gamey though and that's when money plays come in as well as cheese.

Its true Im seeing the same jank. Something as simple as dribbling the ball looks atrocious.

So good they removed it. Lol

Edit- wow everything looks bad. From animation, to player models. It's like a remodeled NHL game if you ask me.

Wow, looks like the players are sliding on ice most of the time. This is complete usury on EA's part, someone's going to buy this and be really mad.

There goes that thought of NBA Live being good for the genre because it'd bring back competition and innovation. 2k is going to rest on their laurels for another 3 years. Sheesh.

Link is gone again. It must be pretty damaging considering how fast they're on top of the links right now, lol.

Why bother when it's a losing fight to 2K? I remember when people chose sides and some preferred Live for some reason but now it's hard to see how anyone could take that stance. The games felt different but 2K is just so much more polished and refined in every way.
