Need for Speed (2015, Full Reboot, PC/PS4/XB1, Ghost) Reveal Trailer

Haven't touched the franchise since Hot Pursuit 2 on PS2. Won't touch it again until Hot Pursuit 3 is a thing.

Umm, it might not have been titled Hot Pursuit 3 but the 2010 HP game is pretty much that.
That double meaning

Only roots worth taking a look at

Besides, the open world Underground still had circuits in it too

I like open world racing games as I've already said in this topic but those are not the roots of this series, period.

What was so great about NFS Porsche compared to Hot Pursuit or the other ones? I never liked it that much because it only had Porsches, I want some diversity in cars.

It was a good simcade type of racer, and it was neat in the way it presented Porsche's history up to that point.

NFS: High Stakes. That is all

Yes! Why does nobody talk about this game? It was the BEST!

High Stakes was my favorite NFS as well.
You are the Three Muskateers to my D'Artagnan. That game was wonderful. I loved the beautiful countryside environments, and little details like police chatter in different languages/dialects depending on the country you were racing in. Great electronic soundtrack too, I still listen to it while playing modern racing games.

Hey, please let me be a part of your group of superfriends, I called for a High Stakes sequel on page 4
http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showpost.php?p=164361416&postcount=194

I played so much of this game, that and Porsche are my favourite NfS titles. In fact I've been watching videos of it all the time since the new NfS got announced.
Tracks were just great and kinda never got old. Great car selection and the driving physics were more arcadey, but not floaty like todays games. Also, IIRC, you had to pay for car damage in career mode which forced you to drive carefully if you'd wanted to progress faster and save money for the supercars. And you could bet your car somehow and even loose it to npc, but I don't exactly know anymore how that worked.
We used to do a lot of hotlapping with the McLaren F1 and there were some really silly unlockable cars.
So many fond memories of that game.

Gonna add myself to the high stakes love fest. Favourite NFS by far, probably put 1000 hours into it. Seem to remember I had amassed so many credits that I bought every car in every colour combination haha. Such a killer soundtrack, playing roll the dice as we speak.

If you still want to get fooled by EA it is not my fault.
Fooled by EA? lol ea does not fool anyone anymore, nine times out of ten. I can smell bs from them but that does not mean that i cant get excited about something even from them. Its still NFS and i love the series and more so i love underground, meaning we cant dismiss that EA had nothing to do with it. So i will save my doubts and concerns for a later date and join that party. When they for some reason find a way to fuck this up.

Don't pull are chain Ghost games and EA.

To be honest, nearly all NFS feature some great audio work. Black Box for example have done some great work with UG,UG2,MW,Pro Street..etc.
What I liked about Black ox's approach was while the cars sounded nuts and and a litlte over the top (I like that!) the actual authenticity of what you would hear on the streets was captured brilliantly.
Pro Street in particular had some of the best turbo spool and BOV's implementation. Also, the raw resonance emanating from the exhaust sounded amazing. Not only that, but I believe that Black Box's Pro Street is the only game that I know of to feature 'knocking' or 'judder' when taking off in a gear that's not matching revs!

Personally I think Pro Street was underrated. I know out of the 4 disciplines one felt sub par but aside from that I loved it. Was the most cheevos I got in a NFS game missing out on only a couple of online ones. Definitely in my top 3 fav NFS games, Shift being another but my all time fav was the 3DO original (not the PSone version, that was broken).

Really excited for this. I enjoyed the NFS Underground series. The format of Underground 2 would really work well with the power and (social) features of current gen consoles. I played Underground 2 online on my PS2 for many hours and seeing the car designs of other racers was always very cool to me.

The open world complaints don't make much sense to me -- at least at this current time. Underground 2 was open world and the race events had closed tracks (with neon arrows blocking off the side streets). Hopefully that will be the case here with NFS 2015 as that's the perfect mix in my opinion. It would be nice if there was a quick menu too for people who don't want to drive to each event. I think it would be a good idea to have this since there's positives and negatives to this; You'll have the ability to get to events faster but at the same time you won't get a really good feel of the area(s) you are racing in and I also assume that players will be able to earn more credits when free-roaming.

So even though NFS 2015 is an open world game, I wouldn't say that it's impossible for the game to feel like a track-to-track racer for people who prefer that style. A lot of jumping to conclusions.

You are the Three Muskateers to my D'Artagnan. That game was wonderful. I loved the beautiful countryside environments, and little details like police chatter in different languages/dialects depending on the country you were racing in. Great electronic soundtrack too, I still listen to it while playing modern racing games.

I loved NFS: HS so much, I bought it for both Playstation AND PC. And love them both.

This sounds promising.

Does anyone read German ?(I think it's German)

A guy at GT Planet has linked to a Swiss site with some preview of the game.

RacingPanda, the original poster at the forum, made an attempt at translation but don't know how accurate it is.

Example:

Nilsson möchte zwar nicht auf genaue Details eingehen, aber wenn ihr euch mal zurückerinnert an die guten, alten „Underground“-Teile, dann beeindruckte dort vor allem die Unterbodenbeleuchtung.
Translation: Nilsson doesn't want to go into details, but remembering the "Underground" titles, the underglow was especially impressive.

Neons?

Translation: We needed to learn to understand, what makes up car culture. A culture, where it's not about the money, the most expensive or exotic ride. We want, that you spend more time with your cars, bother yourself about handling and looks, but also can modify the sound of the engine.

Exhaust /engine upgrades influencing sounds perhaps?

Anyway, more at the links (legit or not)

That sounds like Underground with cops. I'm in.

If the article is legit, than yes, he's talking about neons.
Your other translations are accurate, too. Reading through right now, see if there's anything else new.

I think there's some stuff in the introduction already:
"We let you know, why you're not driving police lambos anymore, that you're riding from sunset to dawn and why bodykits and detailed tuning/customization are making a comeback"

"the new need for speed feels like the good ol' underground. ... engine sounds blend with sirens. police cars take up the pursuit, but this time there are Ford Crown Victoria Police Interceptors, not Lamborghinis or Bugattis with blue light on them. the new need for speed is a straight reboot, back to the roots, to the authentic car culture"

"we're leaving bling-bling cars/supersport cars"

"'Look, every studio has its own brand vision. that's not a bad thing per-se, but it dilutes the results. I think nfs has lost it's identiy through the years of different studios and iterations.' Nilssons task is to capture the new identiy and vision for the years to come. "To us this is a reboot, because we go back to zero. we ask ourselves, what we and the community expect from a really good nfs title. we took an extra year to identify the core elements of the brand, what made it big. and that is the love to cars and tuning.'"

"the most popular need for speed titles in the brand history are set at night. this is perfect for us to show off the power of Frostbite. the races don't only take place at night, but we are using the whole timeframe from dusk til dawn. this allows us to capture scenic moments which will cater to the atmosphere together with the weather system"

"Nilsson doesn't want to go into too much detail for now, but with it's nextgen-only focus, the new need for speed delivers beautiful reflections to the wet roads off an still unknown city. 'We have an impressive dynamic weather system and like to play with different lighting scenarios. music is a big part, too, we're talking about a soundtrack that's much more adjusted to the setting than last time.'"

"the game will be set in an open world and utilize All Drive system, but this time with dedicated servers"

"During the interview Nilsson has a surprise for us: Cops won't be playable anymore and Ghost Games wants to put more emphasis on the story"

"You probably remember how two years ago Most Wanted, but also other iterations, were piling up cars in your garage, for example how fast the police Aventator was available. this stops now. cops are now only an atmospheric element, 'the play a huge role for the thrills, but only I you like. we will make it possible to configure the presence of cops and their aggressiveness gradually in the menus"

"ghost games wants to emphasize on story, which maybe is a results of the success of FF7 and nfs the movie, which is greenlit be EA for a prequel. will there be a cooperation between game and movie like quantum break? Nilssons doesn't want to go into detail on that: 'We found an innovative way of telling the story. we want it to be authentic, there is no place for a "drive and save the world" kind of plot.' the characters are rooted deep in car culture, that's also the reason why cops are npc-only. 'we want to focus on telling a fascinating campagin'. "

"conclusion: need for speed goes full throttle."

-open world
-deep customization and tuning
-dedicated servers to improve online experience
-frostbite engine maxed out, crisp car models, dynamic lighting and weather, beautiful environments and reflections
-author makes suggestions that Aaron Paul could make an appearance, but that's kinda reaching

Awesome sounds extremely promising

No cockpit view confirmed trough Twitter. What a let down.

what? come on man. 3 years of dev cycle and how can you not implement a must have feature for a car game At this point, if anything I expected detailed cockpit view and since its about customization, may be you could even customize lighting and shit inside.

anyways fuck this sucks

All of this sounds fantastic! Now if they'll just reverse that online-only decision..

You are the Three Muskateers to my D'Artagnan. That game was wonderful. I loved the beautiful countryside environments, and little details like police chatter in different languages/dialects depending on the country you were racing in. Great electronic soundtrack too, I still listen to it while playing modern racing games.

Nothing makes me happier than seeing High Stakes getting the love it deserves. It was easily the first racer u actually loved. I have been waiting so long for EA to actually do this game again, but nothing they have done comes close. This is the first of my three all-time favorite racers, followed by PGR 2 and Forza Horizon 2.

But really, no other game had a more perfect progression. It was the risk/reward of not only the punk slip races that could jump you forward or bury your progress, but also how the damage you took cane out of your winnings. It was pretty cool to try to limp a damaged car through a race so that you could buy a new one, instead of repairing it and leaving you just short of cash if you won.

The race that stopped me, though, was the 5 lap night rave in the rain. Getting through that race with your headlights still intact was near impossible, and then it was impossible to win because it was too dark to see. If you drove to safe you wouldn't be in a position to win. The rain made it tough to avoid cars or street signs, which would take out at least on light. By the second one, you were done.

So many hours sunk into that game, though.

lol, I take it that hype has deflated since the online for single player announcement?

online is not an issue for me at all. especially if the game runs on (good) dedis like we are being told.
if it runs on shitty servers though, refund! :D

no cockpit view, I can handle, although this is about car culture etc, missing those is missing a very big chance for cockpit customization.

but I DO need a view I can play on, and that view is not 3rd person, and it sure as hell isnt that very low/pulled back front camera the last nfs had.
at least a proper hood view is required.
show me ghosts!
