Need for Speed - "Five Ways to Play" Gameplay

This is the second trailer they've released on the same topic. The last one showed the play styles' related factions and outlined them all.

I'm still really looking forward to it, because the demo I played was a lot of fun.

I really want to get this title but i want it to stay on my library and not die when EA kills the servers. Looks good though but i can wait.

Probably because they've crunched the numbers and they've decided they'd rather not have people like you or me as customers. They'd rather have a smaller group of people whose data they can mine 24/7 and who they can force along to the next game when this one isn't profitable enough to keep running the servers.

Sounds like a good "Business" reason but very anti-consumer ! I wont buy this at launch for sure. Will wait for a 50% price drop at least before i buy. That's my deal EA.

They have definitely done prior market research before making the decision. I know its EA, but they want to make money at the end of the day and they figured Ghost game design won't be a huge problem to their final profits and they can continue to do research on what people like and what they don't like for the sequel.

That being said, I'm not a fan of this either due to needing PS Plus to actually play the game. I don't know why they can't just include an offline mode. No matter what they do with the story or Crew game design, the rest should still be playable without an online lobby going on. I believed otherwise but seeing more of the game design, I'm convinced the Crew aspect of the game can be neglected for offline play if a player doesn't care about it. This is concern for me as I can't for the life of me log onto NFS Rivals online and I'm forced to play offline because EA authentication with Orgins don't work for some reason and I'm forced to reboot my PS4 and go offline before starting the game if I want to play it again.

I have a feeling if projections don't go their way, they will patch in an offline lobby for people with AI drivers on the map. Hope so anyway.

Best wishes.

I don't get the people who are on NeoGaf all day complaining about the "always online" requirement. It ain't like y'all ever seem to lose internet access so what's the problem here? Plenty of people loving other online-centric or always online games. Seems like a lazy way to attempt and discredit this title.

Visually this game looks striking. Some of the nighttime stuff looks borderline photo real. The post processing is top notch. The camera needs a little work, it doesn't feel fast. I'm going to wait this one out, I didn't love Rivals, and believe it or not, I'm still moving through DRIVECLUB.

Simcity and Diablo 3, remember the launch issues? That's why people are hoping the always online is just bullcrap, I think it'll follow the same blueprint as the last 4 NFS games.

And I don't get how people still can be this ignorant. It's not like there can also be issues on Xbox Live, Plasystation Network and EA's servers. Not to mention that servers will be shut down sooner or later. How is it acceptable, that you are locked out of your game if that happens?

Several games already have proven, that always online is a bad idea and this is not an overreaction exclusive to NeoGAF. It's like people already forgot the shitstorm that happned during Sim City and Diablo 3, for example.

Game looks absolutely awesome. As dumb as the live action/street cred deal is, it seems well done and isn't offputting. Even the music (which I was expecting to be "Get Low" levels of ignorant) works well with what they've shown and I actually dig it.
Not that I don't also dig Get Low, mind you

Destiny is always online and there's no issues... I'd obviously prefer it to be a choice but it's also not a big deal for me. As always, if it's an important issue to you, vote with your wallets.

Destiny's launch was fine. Titanfall's launch was fine. Why are we stuck on two game launches that happened ages ago like technology and techniques don't improve. It's ridiculous, move on already. A game's always online requirement is kind of the last thing I'm worried about being broken these days (which is a sorry thing to admit anyway)

Stop with the doomsday scenario bullshit. How often does XBL just go down? Or PSN for that matter? We've had like one or two DDos incidents since PS4/Xbox One launched. Otherwise outside of some standard PSN jankiness things have been fine. Stop it.

Not to mention that servers will be shut down sooner or later. How is it acceptable, that you are locked out of your game if that happens?

EA has BEEN doing this. Their logic is that by the time they shut the servers down you've already progressed to the sequel to this game or another game entirely. At the rate at which they release these games they're probably right.

Several games already have proven, that always online is a bad idea and this is not an overreaction exclusive to NeoGAF. It's like people already forgot the shitstorm that happned during Sim City and Diablo 3, for example.

Already dealt with this above. These consoles are practically already always-online. It's not a big deal, which is why publishers keep doing it. The anti always-online thing is getting almost as ridiculous as people demanding split-screen MP. This isn't 1998' anymore. Adapt or move on.

Meh, you have a point and if it bothers you that much don't buy it, but it's annoying to just read that over and over on every topic about the game rather than the actual game itself.

It's a issue that's bugged me but I'm not getting the game if the WOM is bad, granted the last 5 NFS have been good, even Run which only reason I stopped playing it after 5 months was the buggy online. I just don't wanna be locked out of the game if my net is temporarily out especially if the last NFS games still had offline stuff to help things out.

As you said, the online should be better by then, at this point, I'm gonna see if the roster of cars is up to my taste.

Also, I'd like to clarify that I have NO IDEA if this game will actually be any good. For all I know it could suck, but the Always Online harping is so tired.

I guess this is the PC version going by the Xbox 360 symbols?
Looks incredible, I wonder how close the Console's versions will look by comparison.

+ nice lighting
+ lots of ways to play
- convoluted currencies
- obvious vector for micro transactions
- online only
- monster product placement

dunno why they waited to the end of the video to show the best bit. kinda lost me after all the currency crap.

You're going to see more of it until the game releases, and after the game bombs, you likely won't see more Need For Speed for a while.

I'd be interested in this one if it didn't have all the online social media bullshit. I love the older NFS games, and got tired of the past two not even being as good as Burnout Paradise, which they mimicked and failed at recreating.

The crew is online only and it didn't even come close to bombing. If I'm aware it was the highest selling racing game of last year and even has an expansion coming out.

This game is going to sell despite the vocal minority because it's the NFS people have wanted to come back for years

Yep, this is the Underground 3 the fans* have been waiting for.

*The fans who only played the series since Underground 1.

Looks amazing, but I also just heard there will be no cockpit view which is kinda strange seeing as they have been pushing the whole FMV thing with this game. Would have been a nice addition.

Sorry, but this is not "doomsday scenario bullshit". It can happen at any time (I hope it doesn't) and the consequences are bad. There's no reason, why you should be locked out of playing the SP part of any game, if anything happens.

EA has BEEN doing this. Their logic is that by the time they shut the servers down you've already progressed to the sequel to this game or another game entirely. At the rate at which they release these games they're probably right.

I don't know about you or others, but I'm certainly not okay with developers/publishers deciding for me, when it's time for me to get a new game. Besides that, you will never be able to replay your game, once they shut down servers, which means you have a dead game.

Already dealt with this above. These consoles are practically already always-online. It's not a big deal, which is why publishers keep doing it. The anti always-online thing is getting almost as ridiculous as people demanding split-screen MP. This isn't 1998' anymore. Adapt or move on.

These consoles are not always online. I can play any game with SP offline with no restrictions. And yes, it's actually quite a big deal, at least for the people who came into this thread saying that they simply won't get it, because of those reasons. Not sure why we need to adapt or move on, either? Are we not allowed to state our disappointment anymore? No wonder developers/publishers keep doing these things, if people just blindly accept anything they throw at you.

Meh, you have a point and if it bothers you that much don't buy it, but it's annoying to just read that over and over on every topic about the game rather than the actual game itself.

Yes it bothers me (and others too) and yes it's one of the main reasons, why I won't get this game, if it launches with the always online requirement. I just can't buy a game with SP knowing that there can be issues and that I won't be able to play it after some years have passed. We are just trying to understand why EA thinks it's okay, but their repsonse was just laughable. I just don't get it.

Anyways, sorry if it's tiresome, but I think the complaints are pretty valid. I'll stop if it really bothers you and others.

this and the crew wild run for my arcade racing game addiction November is insane

this shit I am so cool street cred selling point is annoying as hell tho

While I don't agree with everything you said, thank you for pointing out the flaw in always mentioning Sim City and Diablo 3. Technology always improves and EA and especially Ghosts (who had the game design in mind) wouldn't have gone with this path if they thought the decision would've been detrimental to the games success. Everything doesn't need to be a conspiracy. If the game doesn't work at launch, just be loud about it and hopefully they will allow an offline mode like Rivals does.

It's also when the series was most successful. Lets not act like NFS was a sales juggernaut before Underground was released and the sales tanked as soon as that setting left the building. People bitched about the game not going back to its mainstream success days every time a damn new NFS was announced with a trailer. It's almost like a dream to them that this is actually happening.

Hot Pursuit was a quality game and garnered fantastic sales and critical reception but people here seem to hate the Criterion handling and game development of NFS.

There really is no winning with people on here sometimes.

Best wishes.

I'm a fan of the series in general, it's just I got tried of the whole "When is UG3 coming out?" and I just got tired of it, even after Hot Pursuit 2010 and Most Wanted 2012 were solid games, the fans still complained. And now, everyone gets their wish, I just feel most of the fans who wanted Underground 3 weren't fans of the series in general but yes, I do like the fact this NFS is a combo of every NFS from the last 12 years.

EA remembered to shut down the online servers for Need for Speed World just in time for another always online single player Need for Speed game. Just the way to do it.

online only + 30fps?

What makes fans of Underground any less of a fan than fans of original NFS? Sure they are different fans, but still just fans of a particular game or set of games.

Personally I'm a huge fan of Underground 1 and 2, and it just so happens that they have this weird pre-subtitle.

And what's weird about that? Underground 1-2 & Most Wanted were freaking huge, most of the fans of the series came from there
