Need for Speed Most Wanted 2012 vs 2005 (lttp)

Man this game is nowhere near as good as the 2005 version :( , why didn't they name this burnout paradise 2? I hate it when reboots are significantly worse than the originals. The game is nowhere near as meaty, customization is basically non existent. I don't think criterion is right for need for speed(although I still need to play hot pursuit). Man I just want a n4s with good single player and customization again.

Criterion Hot Pursuit was pretty good! I haven't played their version of Most Wanted, but Hot Pursuit is definitely worth checking out.

Agreed. 2012 Most Wanted wasn't that great compared to the 2005 Most Wanted. The soundtrack, car selection (IMO), gameplay, and tracks I felt were better.

OP, have you tried the 2010 Hot Pursuit and 2013 Rivals? Both are pretty good. Personally my favorite still has to be Underground 2 and 2003 Hot Pursuit 2. A car modders dream to say the least for the former and an excellent racing game for the latter.

Most Wanted 2012 was kinda good as a game on its own but it's trash compared to the original Most Wanted.

I just want another racer with an actual story mode :-(

2012 Most Wanted was a disservice to both NFS fans and Burnout fans. It basically shat on the idea of what MW 2005 was, while at the same time managing to be a halfassed Burnout Paradise. Criterion you can do better and we deserved better.

Yeah no where near as good. I didn't like MW 2012 or even Hot Pursuit 2010. Although I really enjoyed Rivals. I even liked the tracks in The Run. (The Run I believe gets unfair hatred, the story is dumb and QTE's are garbage but the tracks are fun).

I got the game on the WiiU because everybody said it was really really really good.

Technically yes, it is beautiful and run like a dream.

But gameplay.... eh.... it simply isnt fun.

Remember Burnout 3? That was fun.

2012 didn't have a simple vs mode. It was the story progression and online. Like I couldn't set up a race with bots and cops, etc. That annoyed me.

EDIT: Nvmd I'm thinking of Hot Pursuit. I did enjoy Most Wanted. But "catching" the cars to have them was annoying. Plus the industrial-like cities needs to go. I don't mind cities, just not that particular theme.

I have so much nostalgia with NFS Underground series and original NFS Most Wanted. So if I compare any NFS game to those, they are all shit. But as others have said, as its own. Its not a bad game, though it was nothing like Most Wanted 2005, so they shouldn't have named it MW 2012.

I played the latest most wanted on my VITA, had a blast. The original on my 360 was easily easily my favorite racing game ever. I remember having so much fun with my Cobalt SS.

Funny that the best Need for Speed game of last generation was the first. Hopefully the next Need for Speed will be equal to Most Wanted 2005.

I think this is my problem with NFS in general - the Undergrounds and Most Wanted hit at the right point for me to really appreciate them, and the Criterion NFS games don't stack up to my memories.

Agreed, it's not even a competition. The 2012 version was straight up garbage. It's the reason I'm not buying any nfs games anymore.

They lost me after Hot Pursuit but I did play the new Most Wanted over a friends house.

I never did play Shift, Shift 2, the Run, or whats that newest one, Rivals is it?
I didn't play Nitro on the Wii nor did I play their MMO game either.

To be honest I though it wouldn't get worse than ProStreet and even that game looks more fun now.

Hated the 2012 version...These still remain the best NFS games too me.

Need for Speed: Underground (2003)

Need for Speed: Most Wanted (2005)

Need for Speed: Undercover (2008)

Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit (2010)

Need for Speed: The Run (2011)

Bolded are the GOAT for me.

Yeah The Run is vastly underrated, that was a fantastic game with great track variety. I had a ton of fun with it.

That last mission though...had my heart pumping in that tunnel

The last mission was hilarious. I really like the shifting from city to country to mountain to forest through the run, that kind of stuff is where I feel NFS shines. Hot Pursuit 2 was really good at that too.

Most Wanted 2012 wasn't a bad game structurally, it had beautiful environments and a solid frame rate. Where it fell apart for me was in the slippery handling. I could barely keep my cars on the road.

edit: I'm sorry I was thinking of Hot Pursuit 2010, not Most wanted.

I'm playing the Wii U version, and I find it difficult to see what's coming next in the city portion of Fairhaven, particularly in races. Crashing seems so darn easy.

This was just great. Jeez I might buy this game again on PS3 since I haven't played it there.

I only played the demo, but something about the game just felt off. Like the cars looked like toys to me for some reason and the handling was awful. Felt like the cars were on a slip-and-slide. I wouldn't even compare it to Burnout Paradise (despite sharing quite a bit with it) because it felt like a step down in every single way (no 60fps, lack of destruction, lacking sense of speed, etc.). And not to mention the whole thing about finding cars throughout the map that were just DLC. That was definitely the last straw. I couldn't deal with something like that.

I remember that I had to make a choice between Forza Horizon and Most Wanted. I chose Forza. And I'm glad I did. Second-best racing game of last gen (behind Burnout Paradise funnily enough).

Regarding MW 2012 I think its solid and played the WiiU version all the way through as well as some of the PC version. I actually think the handling is good and it looks nice but its completely soulless. Criterion is so fixated on these multiplayer hangouts that the single player progression and structure was just an afterthought. Its like here do some races find some cars beat these nondescript "most wanted" and see you later. The 2005 Most Wanted while undeniably cheesy but at least gave you a semblence of a hook to move you forward.

This is the problem with most games now a days. Multiplayer is overshadowing the single player experience. I hate and I mean hate the open world in any racing game. Underground 2 made me horrificly sad and Burnout Paradise made it worse. If they want to make games like this im fine with it but make it bi annual thing. Keep the awesome story mode that makes the series great.

Most Wanted 2005 is still the best NFS after Underground. It was actually the first game I bought at the 360's launch. Loved the customization, and I really wanted to kick the main antagonist's ass. What was his name? Razorback or something?

The last NFS game I enjoyed was the 2005 Most Wanted. I think Hot Pursuit from 1997 was my first video game.

Need for Speed Hot Pursuit 2010 > Need for Speed Rivals >>> Need for Speed Most Wanted 2012

I honestly from the bottom of my heart thought the Need for Speed series was average until Criterion Games/Ghost Games took over.

I know some people enjoyed Hot Pursuit 2 (PS2), Underground 1/2 and Most Wanted (2005) but EA Black Box were pumping out some real trash by the end.

Carbon, Pro Street, Undercover, The Run... thank god EA put a stop to them.

Shift 1/2 were interesting but the handling felt really off to me.

Razor Callahan

MW 2k5 is my favorite NFS hands down

It's not Burnout Paradise 2 because it's not Burnout. It didn't feel anything like it. Most Wanted controls felt off to me. Rivals was much better and more Burnout like in my eyes.

Damn, I thought this thread was gonna be about Hot Pursuit 2 (ps2) which was way better than the criterion Hot Pursuit.

My vote goes to MW2005 as well. Criterion's MW was boring. Their version of Hot Pursuit was much better... Like Burnout, fun died in the transition to open-world.

Most wanted 2012 was a flawed game. i liked the fact that it was actually a good sandbox racing game... the mecanics were simple and solid. It did lack some cool things from the original most wanted , such as way to cut chase with the environment but overall the map design and the sound design were excellent. Fruthermore the netcode was well done and you had toons of reasons to get back to the game.
It's a shame that the game got dumbed down with that simple upgrade system it was more an annoyance than a real progress but it made it easy to know what to seek next.

In short it was a good yet flawed game.
It had actually a more balanced difficulty than Hot pursuit (2010) yet lacked the variation of the locales of the same game.
It's a mixed bag , but most wanted is much more easier to pick-up and play when i'm bored.

IU consider the run and underground 2 /undercover to be garbage. Those games had no soul.
Rivals was a mess at times but i could see small glipses of good gameplay changes so that one get a good note.

2012 was a poor game

none of the typical NFS sweeping corners, lots of square street corners (and lots of buggy curbs and other shit to bounce off of)

The whole 'grind tyres that aren't like driving on ice' upgrade system that didn't need to be in the game
Here have some atrocious understeer until you arbitrarily do 2 races or so to unlock the regular tyres... WHY

constant DLC nagging in game while playing(ugh)

the micro st st st st stutter that was there in every single preview video as well before release but was passed off as a recording issue (lying cunts)

I also thought the run was a decentish game, a lot better than mw 2012 at least
the handling felt quite good (you had to brake before corners which is very unlike NFS but the physics were pretty good)
It was way too cinuhmatic though

You youngsters and your ricers. Need For Speed II: Special Edition, Need For Speed III: Hot Pursuit, High Stakes, and Porsche Unleashed is where it's at. (all of them PC versions, too bad most of them don't run at all in current PCs. the PSX versions were... not so great.) They're long overdue for a digital re-release with a shiny new coat of paint.

2012 version isn't NFS to me more like more like burnout or something. It was just awful compared to 2005 which is probably my most favorite NFS.
