Few talked about it when it was announced.

The Revolution was expected to bomb pretty handidly all around the internet. I wasn't a member here, but I was definitely one that was reading the Wiimote reveal thread. I saw the first pic, thought "What the hell?", and then remembered it was a motion sensing controller and fell in love with it.

For the most part you'd hear relatively little about it, from any area of the industry.

The Wii hatefest turned to a lovefest quite quickly when they found out that the Wii appeals to a broad market.
 
It really wasn't until E3 06 you read anything that wasn't dismissive of the console. Find some articles on the name reveal and people were talking about the idea of it being a fake name so that going back to "Revolution" would have people talking. That's how batshit people thought Nintendo were.

I initially just came to GAF just for breaking news. I remember staying waiting for the news on the controller to break and spending hours reading that whole shitty thing. Made me register just because of how fucking over the top it was.

Interestingly, that was the pic that started it all for me. The first time I saw the green wiimote, I'm sold and knew it was gonna be big. Had no idea about the Wii before nor cared about console gaming :p

Like they stole the GC's oddball buttons and dwarf 2nd analog? I don't think so. Maybe you missed everyone else's reaction in this thread or something. I seriously doubt we're going to see overwhelming demand for this... hell, right now I'm just grateful that I'll be able to plug my old GC controller into the Rev, because while I'm not exactly fond of the Cube pad, the Rev controller looks like a big step down. Nintendo DEVOLUTION.

Many people may not have HDTVs now but three or five years down the line, quite a few people will and with the FCC forcing a push to digital broadcasting by 2009, you will either need an external box to convert the digital signal to analog or just buy a new HDTV, it's that simple.

lots of people will be buying stuff like this!
