Negative articles about Wii?

Here's an idio..er..guy who thinks the Wii will fade into obscurity....

http://gamer.blorge.com/2007/08/18/...o-obscurity-xbox-360-ps3-will-ultimately-win/

It was written yesterday -- not when it was announced. You'd think people would learn but they don't.

Honestly, almost all negative articles written about the Wii are by spoilt retards on hack gamer blogs who only get coverage because some 16 year old has emailed the link to the guys at Go Nintendo. Has there been any negative coverage by outlets that matter? Not so much..

This thread deserves to be de-railed due to the lazy factor on part the original poster.

The lime green and red Wii and Wiimotes looks lovely! I forgotten about them. Gosh, I'm willing to buy another Wii providing Nintendo release them very soon? I'd imagine the black and red being very popular.

Oh, Nintendo REALLY needs to give #a new update which allows us to use the blue front lights as a sound equalizer. Just having it purely on receiving email is too crual:

*sigh... Damn Nintendo. Maybe they don't know what "cool" really is?

Man. All that fuss over "Wii" as a name, and now, we've completely accepted it. Think about how easily "I blame Wii Fit" rolls off the tongue.

That controller reveal thread is ridiculous. It's like half the people thought that it was just a regular controller, just in a weird shape. A lot of the posters don't even seem to realise that there is a motion senser and the pointer.

Hilarious read, though.

Gotta love the Wii remote and Wii name unveiling threads. So much backlash and it was essentially a free-for-all. It'd be great to go through it and trench up every crow eating sentence in there but you'd probably cop the ban stick and the people you want flushed wouldn't step near the quoted sentences anyway.

i don't think there's enough crow, i mean like 5 people on GAF disagreed.

"you can just walk in to any store at noon and get a wii, you dont need to line up for sure"

1 day later

"Fuck there were 3425245 people lining up in front of my local BB"
"god damn it i can't find it any where!!"
"Where can i get a wii!!??"

3 months later
"OMG where can i find a wii??"
"I have never seen one since it launch"
"god damn it nintendo"

That silver remote looks great, the console... not so much. Also not too fond of the red and lime green versions...

I want Metroid themed Wii...

This however... looks fucking awesome.

Dunno if this was posted, but it was definitely worth mentioning.

I wonder if that had the bigger backlash or the Wii title announcement.

It will be outright criminal if the Revolution isn't the cheapest console at launch ever.

Man, I'd love to go back in time to about E3 2005 and post everything we know now on the old GAF.

"Dear 2005 GAF! My name is ZealousD and I come from the future, in a time where two more E3's have passed. I bring you news of the next-gen console war!

The Nintendo Revolution will actually be named the Nintendo 'Wii'. The controller will be a small remote that easily fit into the palm of your hand, that has internal motion sensing accelerometers and an IR-based pointer. It will come with a small attachment called the 'nunchuk' that will be used for many games, and it will feature an analog stick and a motion sensor of its own. Later, Nintendo will reveal a small balance board peripheral that senses your balance, and it will be revealed alongside a fitness game called 'WiiFit'. The console will launch at $249. Before the Wii launches, everybody will predict that you will be able to walk into a store day one and purchase it. However, the console will be sold out at launch, it will become the Tickle Me Elmo of Holiday 06 (even besting the next generation Tickle Me Elmo), and will continue to be sold out for most of 2007. It will become the fastest selling video game console of all time.

The PS3 will become a total disaster. At E3 2006, Sony will reveal that the PS3 is actually going to cost $599 US Dollars. The 2006 conference will be a total joke, and people will be posting gifs and numerous memes will spawn, like 'Ridge Racer' and 'Giant Enemy Crab'. Expect lots and lots of really boring trailers. Except MGS4. That will be awesome.

The XBOX360 will perform well, but not superbly. It will have tremendous reliability problems related to heating problems and Microsoft will ignore the problem and spin the numbers as long as possible.

Also, the DS will completely knock the shit out of the PSP once the DS's redesign is revealed. It will absolutely conquer Japan and outsell the PSP 2:1 in America."

And that would probably have earned you a ban of some sort... :lol
GAF is a great site, and helpful for many gaming-related things (and cat-related things), but it's not really in touch with the general public... Truth be said, most gaming-related sites (even the "professional" ones) are utterly clueless.

What I love in retrospect are all the whiny rants by Matt Cassamassassaminasina about Nintendo being out of touch with the public for the lack of HD, for the "Wii" name... For someone running what is basically a fan-site, he sure lacks confidence...

Good god. Going back through that thread is so sad. Every other word was flailing, waggle, or some other form of dismissive description. Less than 24 hours later, "600 US DOLLARS" was born. Weird how that shit works out.

Some of these comments are hilarious. I wasn't on GAF much before Wii, so I am still surprised to see the uniform hate, anger, disdain and comedy levelled at the Wii prior to its launch. It shocks me that GAFers were so hive-minded against it. It seemed like an obvious success to me, but then I also thought the DS would have no trouble beating PSP.

But there is more ownage to be had. Each month brings us new comical predictions of doom for Nintendo. I imagine many things are being typed today that will be laughed at in a few short months. Well, some of us are laughing now, the rest will join in later!

(Weird that there isn't a single mainstream article that remotely echoes GAF consensus.)

That whole thread is a fiasco I am sure alot of GAF posters wish was never brought back from the dead.

SC is a hell of alot more gaurded these days, and does a fine job with the NPD numbers, and bieng a mod. I think we can forgive him a few
industry leading novelty toy
somewhat questionable calls in the past.

Well, GAF is getting better(or doing the opposite of the Anti-Wii hivemind), almost everything thinks that Wii Fit is a shoe-in.

I expect a diamond button configuration, no large "A" button. Two analog sticks, four shoulder buttons. A D-pad aswell, hopefully something thats bigger than whats on the GC controller.

Nice. Every point on this prediction regarding the Classic Controller bore out.

Here's a good one.

In an E3 (May 2005) interview with IGN (yes, it is still on their site!), Miyamoto states that he is only doing experiments with what they might do with Mario. Also he states he does not know whether it will be a Mario 128 or Sunshine style of game.

Considering games are taking 18-24 months (for anything of substance anyway) to develop, how long do we anticipate waiting for a new Mario title?

Will Nintendo wait until they have Mario ready before a Revolution launch?

Will they wait for their 3rd party publishers to have some games ready?

How long will it take for Nintendo to finalise their specs on hardware, including the controller (which in multiple interviews with gaming websites they have stated is not yet finalised) AND GET LIBRARIES + DEVELOPMENT KITS for this strange new machine to their would be 3rd party publishers? I'm guessing that there are currently no 3rd party games in development right now.

Will Nintendo be able to sell machines with only half a dozen or so firt party titles available at launch when its competing with machines that will have up to a hundred games out by that time?

Will Nintendo really be able to source components and mass produce this machine anytime soon?

Will the Revolution maintain anyones interest longer than the average gamer has given to dance mats, power-gloves, light guns, and eye toys?

If not, will most Revoltion owners buy a few games then stop buying more as they are all pretty gimicky and all their friends have more sexy and popular games on their 360/ps3s?

Will Iwata stand before us all in May 2007 and say:
"We brought you a Revolution, but you bought ps3s. I am sorry. *Long, deep bow* We at Nintendo have learnt from our mistakes -no, really, and we will humbly now be creating Mario, Zelda and Metroid sequels from now into eternity for next generation xboxes and playstations."

hahaha Consider that fanboys! :)

Oh how the tables have turned Mr. Nelson. Thank god for Bioshock right?

I know I'm seen as a Wii hater on these boards, but here are my initial thoughts 17 hours after the Revolution controller was first revealed. You can see that I wasn't always down on the system.

"Nintendo is trying to change the face of gaming forever. For that we should be both pleased and very fearful."
