Neil Patrick Harris To Host Spike VGAs

Not even NPH will get me to watch that filthy dreck again.

"These awards are powered by Dew and voted on by the Call of Duty community. Now please enjoy these (semi) famous attention whores who have little if nothing to do with games while they make a fool out of themselves and cut down the IQ of the viewer by another 20 points. Ooh and we'll throw in some WORLD EXCLUSIVE 20 second clips of non gameplay footage as well!"

I watched this shit last year, absolutely terrible.

No idea who that is but at least it's not Jack Black.

Last year one of the UK channels (Fiver/Five USA IIRC) showed the VGA's a few days after they aired in America. Any UK-GAF know if this is happening again this year?

As a great man once said (Haggard from Bad Company), embrace the suck.

They must be paying him a damn mint to do this, 'cause this is remarkably beneath him. The Spike VGAs are such a joke.

Jack Black still gets work, so I guess not

Do they stream this anywhere? I don't have cable tv :(
I don't think so, if anywhere it would be Gametrailers.com. That's there the world premiere videos will be uploaded at any rate.

I think they also upload the whole show as well, although I don't get why anyone would want to watch that.

Anyway, no Green Man?

I'm waiting for the inevitable story where NPH is revealed to have an absurd spending problem like Nic Cage and Elton John. He will pretty much do anything.

I'm pretty sure there's no official stream this time, but there's bound to be unofficial ones, so it's no problem.

Lower than Harold and Kumar? I don't think this alleged level 'beneath him' you speak of exists.

YES. Is this even debatable?

But no, that isn't career sucide. Why? Because nobody cares about the spike video game awards.

Good, now cut out all the bullshit pageantry and the awkward co-marketing that always makes these so painful to watch.

Here's what I think they need to do:

  • no more "Best Independent Game Fueled by Mountain Dew"
  • no Jersey Shore or Blue Mountain State appearances
  • bring in more gaming industry figures as presenters (Cliffy will be there, though it'll probably be pre-recorded)
  • get rid of the overly British announcer lady and all the other pretentious crap
  • get actual critics to nominate the games, rather than the network nominating them
  • work in some gaming related stuff aside from just showing trailers
  • get some writers who actually know their audience, and stop offending said audience at nearly every turn

As for me, I'll watch if only for the It's Always Sunny cameos. Although, judging by last year, the script probably calls for them to come out, in character, and insult the audience for being a bunch of nerds.

But all of those reasons are why it's fun to watch with GAF. The threads are hilarious.

Unfortunately, and I'm sure you realize this, it's things like the VGA Awards that shape popular opinion about gaming.

Honestly. I wish the industry would just boycott the VGAs unless significant changes were made. The industry so desperately wants to grow up and yet they associate themselves with this vile and demeaning event. It's embarrassing for everyone involved and each year it seems to set gaming back to the early 90s.

I'm hoping I can find a stream on the web like I did last year (JTV)

I wish I can, somehow, watch this live. I don't live in the US, and I already wanted to watch the show for the trailers. Now that NPH is in it, I double want to watch it.

To the underworld of the internet, trying to find a Spike TV broadcast.

Will watch! It's always fun to watch with live commenting from all the gaffers and with Dr Horrible hosting it's a must. ;)
