Neo_G (Hidetoshi Ishizawa) leaves Capcom and joins SNK

Good for him though. The Capcom fighting game train is so far off the rails right now, I'm glad he's able to find another company to continue doing what he enjoys.

Can't blame anybody for jumping ship from Capcom tbh.

Are you expecting more fighting games out of them this generation?

Which out of curiosity?

They've played coy when talking about other fighting games that may be currently in development. Mind you, this was prior to SFV's launch so it would be unsurprising if plans have changed.

I think the Vs. series is the only franchise they have that can put up numbers but that relies heavily on outside intellectual property. The benefit of KOF14 doing well is that it makes CvS3 a possibility, though.

Seasoned Capcom FG dev now at SNKPlaymore

Design
Marvel Vs. Capcom 3: Fate of Two Worlds (Battle System Designer)
Capcom vs. SNK 2: Mark of the Millennium (Planner )
Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike (Director)

Yo this is an immense get for SNK and massive loss for Capcom. Some of those games (like the ones I quoted) are some of the best fighting games of all time. Hopefully this means SNK are actually planning on bringing back some of their old franchises instead of sitting on them like Capcom.

Also, hype for KOF XIV is through the roof now, especially since they've got the guy who directed fucking 3rd Strike working on it.

I think it's also obvious that Capcom is more interested in hiring new blood from time to time rather than keeping the old guard around. Woshige and Combofiend have been indicative of where things are headed.

If they run most of their games like a service and tweak it so that the DLC is the profit maker and not general sales, while getting backing from Sony (or getting money poured in from their other divisions IE mobile), they absolutely could. With SNK getting back the old guard, they absolutely could get out another CVS game.

The Battle Director of SFV is a Guilty Gear vet and since this SFV will be the only Capcom fighting game for the considerable future I imagine Neo_G was left with nothing to do.

He didn't work on Street Fighter 4 or SFxT either as far as we know. It's more like he's been lacking things to do with Niitsuma not working on MvC4 or anything else as far as we know. And god knows what's up with DMC5, although he wasn't involved with DMC4SE.

He wasn't just a fighting game guy, though. He was one of, if not the main combat guy for DMC3 and DMC4.

All records are made to be broken!

Garou 2 y'all it's happening.

The possibility of a Garou 2 directed by the guy who did 3rd Strike has me all

So much for Mr. Kenji Kido, senior analyst from Mizuho Trust & Banking Co. Ltd., writing this for their online integrated report:

In terms of in-house development, I thought cultivating personnel would take time and be very risky, but I now understand that the internal know-how already exists and I recognize the merits of being able to exert control. Rather than simply increasing the number of personnel, the issue going forward will be the degree to which Capcom is able to retain high-quality personnel.

Why would Garou 2 happen? KOF is the known brand they have and that combines several different franchises, including Fatal Fury. If we are going by actual their recent-ish output, their next game would be Samurai Shodown. All their fighting games would have to do very well for a Garou 2 to be considered.

Dudes going to put up a video of him digging up that almost completed Garou Mow 2 and just deleting everything, declaring its trash and live broadcasts the development of his version of 2

I didn't say Garou 2 would happen straight away, I was just talking more about the possibility of it happening.

Because they mentioned Last Blade, Samurai Shodown and Fatal Fury as franchises they're interested in reviving if KoF XIV does well.

I think those would be the top three to be revived but I believe there's a big drop off in name recognition from KOF to SS and then an even bigger dropoff from SS to FF/LB. Maybe the Chinese market will make KOF a huge seller but I think the chances of us getting a new Last Blade or Fatal Fury is equal to our chances of getting a new Darkstalkers or Rival Schools, games that their developers also want to bring back.

I think it's safe to say that no other Capcom FG franchise is ever coming back. SFV would have had to sell gang busters for Capcom to consider it and even then they probably wouldn't do it. I think is SNK want to bring any of their franchises back they're in a position to do so.

KOF XIV looks amazing, and now we know why more so. :D

Is this confirmed?
SNK and Capcom fighting games always played really differently imo and i have always vastly preferred the SNK style, i'm hyped for KOF14 because it looks like a real KOF.

Capcom has been ultra conservative for a while, and with nothing in the pipeline, quality talent leaving elsewhere, and SFV being a Sony funded disappointment sales-wise, things aren't looking good. I already wasn't expecting any new fighting games from Capcom, but this probably puts the nail in the coffin also for any new VS game/DMC game.

I'm interested to see with SNK does from here. KOF is starting to look good from it's last teaser.

Neo_G joined SNK: January, 2016

Development on KOFXIV started: April, 2014

You could see in the PSX build (December, 2015) that the gameplay for XIV was already almost finalized.

I have always hoped for Nintendo vs. Capcom.

Considering how well Nintendo fighting games still do and the ability to apply Amiibo to it.

It's also a way for Capcom to expose their characters and fighting gameplay to a wider audience.

Why would you all think Garou 2 is happening when SNK is dead set on never getting back to it since it's "At the end of the timeline."?

There were plans for Garou 2, so it is possible they'll want to go back. The director of KOF XIV himself has said he wants to go back to Garou at some point.

For the record, I don't think Garou is happening any time soon and I wouldn't be surprised if it never happens. I'm talking more about the possibility of it happening.

Oh I would be jumping for joy if it did happen. I just don't want to get my hopes up :(.

The SNK fan in me is, of course, very pleased with this news.

The Capcom fan in me has had to make peace with this kind of thing occurring long ago.

And that is good. I love KoF because it's not Street or Marvel mechanics and philosophy.

why
neog was only on the dmc4 team and he wasn't the main battle planner/designer- there's a couple of dudes who share credits all the way from dmc1 in the 'planning' section

Good question. I keep forgetting about Mamoru Ohhoshi, Yoichiro Ikeda, Norimasa Sankoda, Jean-Christophe Hideaki, and guys like Oni-S that hopped on with DMC4 and that went on to work on Dragon's Dogma, and that Neo_G wasn't involved with DMC3.

I read something about some of the older snk staff returning to work on Kof14, anybody know any more details?

After the sloppy start of SF5, chances of Capcom investing much in the fighting genre besides SF are pretty slim. So I really couldn´t blame him if he takes a chance at SNK and if this isn´t just an april fools joke.
