It was a pretty average year for anime, but the right series and the right movie won again. Ping Pong is a great show, and Kaguya is a great movie, but there isn't much else that I really feel strongly for. Other than the Animator Expo project which is super awesome: http://animatorexpo.com/

Animator Expo is a neat idea and all, but really when you get down to it 20 Minutes Walk, etc. is the only thing in there I've seen that I didn't find forgettable.

Very solid list. Content with the outcome.

I for one am glad Kill La Kill place it is a good anime deserving of praise unlike Ping Pong.
Zzzzz

Space Dandy robbed
If its got to lose to something, it may as well be Ping Pong.

But man was 20min walk good.

I think it has a better batting ratio than AniKuri15 so far!

Needs a short from Shinkai about cats, distance and cleverly blended CGI before it's better than AniKuri.

Neat, one of my comments made the OP! Didn't think it was that eloquent, but whatever, I'll take it.

Guess I gotta watch Ping-Pong and Barakamon now.

Great top 10 list.

But still I'm so salty right know, Barakamon should of been ahead of Shirobako, HxH, and Nozaki kun.

Be proud. It beat Kill la Kill thanks to you. Imagine how salty you'd be if it was below Kill la Kill.

Space Dandy robbed not that I'm surprised

Glad to see KLK, SD, Jojo, Parasyte, HxH, and GBF all get the respect they deserve. Just needed Log Horizon to squeeze in there and it'd be perfect.

I really should have voted, but I figured attempting to legitimize Terror in Resonance as the Anime of the Year would be futile. Great list, though, I will have to check out the shows that made it!

Shirobako, HxH and Space Dandy are all high up, so it's a good list. Really gotta get to watching Ping Pong, from all the good things I've heard about it.

From now on, KlK will disappear. People say Jojo's will be picking up this season, in the Battle in Egypt saga, but I can't say I was too impressed by it last year, so its position seems about right.

Good on ME!ME!ME! for making it up there.

I don't really remember anything from AniKuri15 either except for Satoshi Kon's piece.

That's my point! When we're talking about real shorts which clock at under 10 minutes, by nature most of them will not be memorable. But that doesn't make them less valuable as an outlet to allow creators to make stuff which isn't exclusively tied to commercial interests.

Of course when we expand further into ~30 minute short films, or episodes in anthology series, the stories get more memorable - stuff like Animatrix, Genius Party, Anime Mirai, Short Peace, Space Dandy, etc. But that's just the nature of how more content will result in more substantial works.

I feel it's fine to appreciate a project for what it is. Most of the shorts might not be memorable, but very few of them are actually bad. So as something to spend 10 minutes enjoying each Friday, it's definitely worth checking out.

I'll agree with you there. I just don't have strong feelings about Animator Expo in general.

I feel honored that you quoted me Haly. Though considering it was for KLK...oh well!

There were very few people writing anything substantial about KLK.

I wonder why...

HMMMMMMM!

I would say I'm glad that we don't have to deal with Kill la Kill anymore, but something will just take it's place this year.

Glad to see Hunter x Hunter and Parasyte on the top 10. Would've liked Hunter x Hunter higher, too bad lol. Also, really need to watch Ping Pong.

About that...

Only 2 people needed to vote for Mushishi. If someone didn't vote for it when they would've, well, you know who to blame.
Fuck. I was going to put Mushishi as my AOTY but I forgot to make a post. Sorry Ginko.

I seriously thought Mushishi was going to do fine. I've seen some of the shows in the OP and I can't say any of those come anywhere close to what Mushishi offers except Ping Pong. Those were my top two. I was way off.

Didn't Angel Beats make it into the top 10 too? That was a sad year for GAF AOTY all around.

I voted for Angel Beats too! Because it was so bad I just decided to troll the entire vote. In the end the voting thread didn't even have 200 replies I think, so it was kinda a bust all round.

I feel like Akira Amemiya's direction is going to be too 'abstract' for Ninja Slayer resulting in a lot of people being turned off.
