How many confessions of writing fake confessions are fake themselves, therefore the original anonymous confessions are real?

I thought rule #1 was "Don't make shit up"

I refuse to believe Cumfessor is real.

vast majority of the outrageous confessions read like shit, go back to the board on how to write, and keep your shit out of this thread

Real question, how are the posters coming out and admitting they sent in fake confessions not getting banned? The OP states several times to not do that. How is that different from thread-shitting?

Not trying to call for bans or backseat mod by any means. As a fairly new member still, I want to make sure I understand when it's okay to break with the guidelines in an OP.
 
The people sending in fake stories (or (possibly fake) admissions that they faked it) suck hard. Thanks for killing a beautiful Gaf tradition guys.

They've been fake from the start (I mean the original threads). Don't be so naive and/or stupid.

I bet you guys believe all those stories on Facebook that start "I never thought it would happen to me, but..."
 
ya'll really did fake confessions so you can work on your writing skills? That's not the point at all of confessions! I got confessions. a lot of juicy ones.

Of course there's fake confessions every year. But the point here is to treat all of them as true because some of them are true.

It does a disservice to people who actually tell the truth about the things that happened in their life to just openly admit that everything you said was lies or a "creative writing exercise." If you send in a fake confession, whatever, but when you start openly admitting you sent a bunch of fakes in, it's shitty for the people who actually took time to open up or ask advice or share their stories or whatever.

It's just really shitty. I'm not gonna waste my time on this anymore. I have a few stories left in the box, I'll post them all on Sunday, then I'm done. Someone else can do it next year if they want.
 
To all of you writing fake confessions and admitting it, that's really fucking disgusting.

There's people who talked about traumatic personal stuff, stuff that they might have never talked before to anyone but because you wanted to make it all about you everyone is going to wander if it was even true to begin with.

Thanks for ruining one of the good thing the OT had this past few weeks.
 
This really was the 2016 of Confession Threads. But thanks anyway to NTGYK, you really did your best and I enjoyed it nonetheless, but I completely understand you being done with it at this point.
 
What got me were the (child) abuse stories. They didn't read as if they were made up, but there were also largely buried under some "spectacular" stories that elicited way more replies. Supply and demand I guess?

If this is true then what you did was selfish and wrong. I sincerely hope you understand how awful what you did was and never, ever do it again. It's like taking a bird and crushing it because you wanted to work on your grip strength. Just sad and weird and messed up and wrong.

This so much. One of mine this year was something I had never told anyone before - ever. And while it may not have garnered many responses, and that's ok, it sucks knowing that it was effectively sullied by others treating this like a writing exercise... especially, as already mentioned, since it was NaNoWriMo AND there's also the weekly (?) creative writing threads right here on GAF.

Mate, I can understand how frustrating it must be to put in all this work and then have others not appreciate it. Just wanted to say that my confession was real (you didn't like it but that's besides the point) and am thankful that you gave me the chance to share it. Thanks for all the hard work!

People actually believed me? I was clearly lying about sending fake confessions. I sent 1 fake one 1 years ago and it was never posted. I actually did post a true confession.
 
I don't usually advocate this but I hope these guys get banned. It makes a mockery of the actual true confessions and the folks that are genuinely reaching out for help, all because some idiots want to practice some flimsy and ill conceived prose.

Yes but, I didn't expect anyone to believe me. I swear I've sent in two true confessions. It was a stupid stunt. I really didn't do the magazine one. Honest. I'll even post my confessionson and proof.

Problem is, you're now the proverbial boy who cried wolf. No-one can know whether to believe you in either direction.

Take the short-term loss to your credibility for now and just remember to always think through a joke in future.

Taking a year or two off might actually help build up real confessions as well as interest in the whole undertaking. If I remember correctly the original thread ran for years and there were spans where ronito didn't post or look into the confessional for a long time.
