NeoGAF Candy Swap

Status
Not open for further replies.
Original post has been updated. If anyone would like to break out Photoshop and make a banner, feel free.

I'm extremely busy at the moment so I'm just going to focus on getting the information organized.

This sounds a lot like that one 23 year old who was organizing a video game sleepover for all the thirteen year olds on GAF. He said there would be soda and cake and his dad would even play music. Does anyone have a link to that thread?

On topic this seems pretty involving just to get candy. I think the fun part is actually being in the foriegn candy store. It's like you a child in a sweet/chocolate depository.

Location: United States, Pennsylvania
Wants: Anything that isn't North America.

If someone doesn't have a preference, I'd probably send an assortment of tastykakes.

This sound like a really cool idea and I'm in. I usually stock up on international candies whenever I'm at the store - though my heart belongs to Reese's Peanut Butter cups. :D

Location: California, USA
Wants: Candy from anywhere
Specific Candy: As far as chocolates go, I'm really into either mint, orange, caramels, or berry flavors (rasberry/strawberry) but for things like jellies, gummies, and chewy candies - I love fruit flavors.

Location: Australia
Wants: Anything from Europe, Japan,...maybe USA (I've been there 3 times so probably have tried your candies already)
Specific Candy: Anything that taste good!

I could understand that, but I think it's also pretty rewarding to open up a box full of strange goodies you've never seen before.

The candy should be packaged properly. Individually wrapped or still sealed from the purchase.

Candy needs to be legitimate. Homemade candy is fine as long as it is like a specialty candy from a small business and is packaged properly.

Don't make homemade candy and put it in a ziploc bag and send it. The purpose of this swap is to get your hands on goodies that are rare or not found in your location.

I hope that clears up the confusion.

Everyone up to this point has been entered.

So far, we have:

USA: 9
Australia: 1
Canada: 1

I'll keep updating as more people register.

Definately in, missed out on xmas when I was a lurker, would love to participate in something like this.

Location:United States
Wants: I dont know TBH w/e I suppose it shouldnt matter
Specific Candy: Chocolate(Can we update this later?) Any recommendations as well!

I can ship anywhere, I dont mind, also visit the following link and ask for anything in there, my fiance works @ Walgreens(chain store) and they have a lot of popular candy there and tons of other kind of stuff, ask for any of it and I'll be sure to get you a lot of candy, assorted or tons of the same, dont matter. 15% discount FTW!!!!

http://www.walgreens.com/store/cate...mp&navCount=0&erule=redirect_candy&term=candy

Her manager's wife works for Mar's(m&ms etc) and they gave us a box of candy, assorted m&ms, snickers, skittles, etc for my daughters B-day pinata. So if you want that type of candy let me know and I can purchase a box of assorted candies for pretty cheap(checking with fiance on price but should be cheap). It weighs like 10lbs no lies.

Oh come on. Lets keep this serious. Things should be wrapped and hopefully some sort of real label.

Don't play around with sending shit that people are going to eat.

What the hell, I'm in :D

Location: Netherlands
Wants: As long as it's tasty
Specific: Chocolate, preferably something with caramel or nuts. Not a fan of dark chocolate. Cookies or sweets also welcome.

You actually don't even have to list a specific candy right now if you are unsure, but it is helpful because it's just that much more information I can send to your swapping partner.

Basically, my job is to match two people up from different locations to make it easy on everyone. Once you're matched you can further discuss the details of your swap with that person.

This is an awesome idea! My girlfriend is American and every time her mom sends a package I get her to include a massive bag of Reese's Pieces. Goddamn that's the best candy in the world (I love peanut butter.) I'm also one of the few Brits that actually like Hershey's chocolate-I know it's not the best chocolate in the world but I like it's unique flavour. I'm also a big fan of Twinkies and Oreos, oh and I also like making S'mores. Anyway that's enough babbling about American candy...

I live in England
I want candy from Japan or Korea. If not any of these two then I'll take America, Canada, or Australia.
I don't know what kind I want but I prefer chocolate, cakes, and cookies.

You may have to put a cap on the Americans signing up at some point or there are going to be a lot of sad pandas.

well, at least, i live in Mexico, but will ship from US because it will be A LOT CHEAPER that way.

There is also another guy who said that can also go and get candy from down his border, so, you could count him as a possibilitie.

Edit: it was C4Lukins

I can vary it up, since I have access to Japanese, Russian, Mexican, Swedish and British grocery stores in the Seattle area. We also get some Canadian candies down here.

At first I thought this was going to be a fat joke about americans, but was happy to find it wasnt! :lol

I'm in Canada, but I'm not sure what is unique here. There is a good chance I haven't found the unique candy in Toronto yet.

I agree, I've been thinking of a way to balance this all out.

Since some people have access to candy from Mexico, then I could match them according to that to help balance everything.

If things get too out of hand, I will have to cap it off though.

i would totally do this if i hadn't just sent darunia american cereal a week and a half ago. give me a few months and i'll be down for more food exchanges.

Wouldn't it be easier to just buy the candy you want online? You can find practically everything for sale online nowadays.

But one exception comes to mind.

If anybody can get me Hokkaido honey dew Hi-Chew, I'll reward you handsomely. It's only sold in Hokkaido, Japan and my supply is running low.

I'd want some of that too.

Right now I've got green apple, grape, cherry, and mango. Mango tastes like dirt though.

Are people willing to post pictures and/or links of candy that is available in their particular region?

Nice idea, I'm sure many people don't even know what is out there. Also, once the swap is complete, everyone should post pictures of their loot.

OP was updated.

I've listed everyone that is registered. If you posted your information and aren't on that list, please let me know.

This sounds like it is turning into a candy ordering system. Why can't we get our person in secret, and then pick out stuff for them based on their basic likes/dislikes? I don't want some person specifically picking things out for me to go buy them.

I live in NZ, so... I think the only thing from here are Pineapple Lumps :/

(Though wikipedia has some other stuff)

I want stuff from Japan (but anything from EU, US or other parts of Asia would be fine too).

I'm originally from Argentina, so I don't want anything from south america :D

Location: United States
The Location You Would Like Candy From: Somewhere outside the US
Specific Types Of Candy: I want nothing to do with any sort of licorice or violet-flavored anything. I'm always excited to try new chocolate, but it's not entirely necessary.

I'm up for suggestions because I'm new to this.

I'm not going to tell my person anything to get me. I want to be completely surprised.

The candy preference was just there to give people an idea, and some people would like some specific candy, but you can include that along with other random types of candy.

However, some people may be allergic to some candy, which should definitely be listed.

If everyone would rather be kept in the dark about their swapper, let me know!

How about I just buy a bunch of random unique candies and post pics, and people can just PM 1st come 1st serve?

I don't really mind what I get in return, I'll enjoy locating hard to find candies, and sharing. Plus I get to eat what I find too.

Nah , dont do that...Just wait until you get picked with someone and make their day.

It's more fun that way - then, at the end of it, we can all post pics, and if anyone wants anything specific, we can ask for it, yeah?

Location : USA, Utah

Wants candy from : Mexico (I love the chile flavor) and Sweden

Im willing to swap twice to get both if possible.

Yeah, guess I'm getting carried away. I'm ready to quit the job and search the US for candy :lol

sounds good (very good) to me :D (as, 50% of our candy industry is based on tamarindo, mango and pina with chile :D

Hah, I'm in Utah too. Have you tried those chocolates at the Gateway they sell with the cayenne pepper (actually kind of common everywhere) on them? They're actually pretty dang good.

i think vas_a_morir wants to be my partner, but i'll list all this stuff anyway so i get registered. can't sleep anyway :P

location: switzerland
want candy from: anywhere but japan
preferences: everything is ok as long as it's candy. i'm not a big fan of black licorice. cookies are fair game too.

i can get pretty much any brand of swiss chocolate. they come in a variety of price ranges so if you primarily want chocolate you'll have to give me an idea of which brands and such. besides swiss sweets and candies i can also get my hands on some german stuff (haribo, etc.)

I fucking love Haribo...

Did they ever do a packet full of the squidjy hearts?

I found something in my hometown, anyone interested?

Chocolate connoisseurs will appreciate that the treats are made on the premises and from scratch. The most popular treat is the famous 'bear paws', chunks of caramel with roasted pecans covered in luscious chocolate. The store also makes loads of Scottish-recipe fudge and an assortment of chocolate barks.
