So how exactly is this gonna work?

I'm hoping there's some discussion to come. This seems to be a general interest thread. Suggestions/questions -

1) I'll run a Campaign tournament if there's interest. Campaign scoring and four-player games, each round is a new level of the game. If there's enough players to go for more round than levels, then we do the levels again with major modifications via Skulls. Final round is the last two players.

2) Should there be specialized tournaments - slayer, team game, etc? Or have the tournament be a mix. Round one is Slayer FFA, round 2 is CTF, etc.

I think a Campaign tournament - four players, Legendary, individual Campaign Scoring turned on, would be a great secondary tournament. Each round is a new level, with top two scoring in each game progress to the next.

Edit: I can setup and run the Campaign tournament and help coordinate the MP. We can work out the details.

I think this is an awesome idea. Campaign scoring is one of my favorite new features... I definitely see myself obsessively playing and replaying levels to get a marginally higher personal record. Just like the Starfox 64 days...

I'm not too sure on Campaign Scoring. It may be a little too early to organize something for that mode just because scores are going to be erratic for the first few weeks.

Multiplayer, on the other hand, is a tried and true component. With the Beta taste, I'm sure lots of Gaffers will be able to jump in and perform well. That would be much more interesting at launch than Campaign Scoring, IMO.

The mixed tournament, while I've never heard of anything like it before, sounds like an awesome idea. I'm thinking we have FFA, CTF, and TS for each rung of the tourney. Now we just have to decide whether we make the FFA first and form teams from the conglomerates that make it through, or we make it such that we start it with a team, build up their comradery and friendship, get a championship team, and only break them up into 2v2 and ultimately a 1v1 to decide the victor.

Either way, it's gonna be KICK-ASS.

One thing I think we do have to watch for though is balance. The tournament really won't be half as fun if we have one team just romping through the damn thing (unless I'm on it of course ).
